I would like to see a homebuilt 300BO vs. the honeybadger vs. the rattler. I bet it's closer than 75%.
90%
Check out Eitri’s enhancements. He has a 300 blackout build series that is basically the poor mans sig. helped me build my first sbr.
Buttttttt the honey badger has cool colors and a cool looking butt stock? You mean to tell me that’s not worth an additional 2k??
Check out TRex arms, he did a budget honey badger I’m currently working on.
People are sleeping on the dissent
I'm on the phone with Academy Sports arguing with them to honor the $799 James said it was. They claim they don't even know about it and don't know who this James guy is.
Academy isn't even selling an AR type rifle anymore....corporate WOKE decision from what I understand. I was in there the other day and their gun supply looked like a hardware store from the 1940's
Fuck Academy Sports. Please, for the love of James, shop local. I spent like 2-3months going to every locally owned gun store in and around the city I live in when I first got into guns. Found a pawn shop that has layaway that gets the occasional gem and found my go-to local gun store. Owned by a local family
Guess that's another company about to go bankrupt. It'll be strange driving by all the empty buildings by the end of the year.
@@joshuabruce9920 And AVOID DIcks Sporting Goods. They are very anti gun.
Took my og rattler over 100 miles down river over a few days kayak trip. Never once had a single issue with it from water, mud, or sand. That thing is a tank.
I wasn't aware it could be used as a flotation device... Maybe it is worth $3000
hard to beat the 5.5'' model , best pdw ever!!
@@brighthought11 The LT did it in many ways
You’re shooting while kayaking or are you saying you got it wet and muddy and shot it?
@@all_your_baser_belong_to_us it was riding in the kayak, sitting in water, sand, and mud for days and then shot no problem
Another solid review, I’m a huge fan of the mcx series. The price of this one hurts to but, if you alert have a good amount of 5.56 rifles and want a more compact system this isn’t bad.
The biggest issue with 300 BO is ammo cost. Subsonic rounds are $1 a piece, subsonic 9mm is around 35 cents a piece. I own many of both and mostly shoot 9mm
Ok but you're getting a rifle round...
@@Bischlarbo69but that doesn’t matter if you can’t buy as much guy.
This is why I have been reluctant to get a 300BO. For now I'll stick to my 9mm SBR's.
@ultimatetrex1999 i guess. Still a pretty solid advantage to 300 blackout
@@Bischlarbo69 For self defense sure…but just for shooting? 100 rounds go quick and it’s over $100 for subsonic 300 BO. I only shoot subsonic suppressed 9mm and 300 BO
Just got the 300 BO 6.5" based on your recommendation. Hornady Vmax 110 grain average 1950 feet/sec by my Garmin. 1.5" group at fifty yards with an Eotech. Cycled perfect. Recoil is so mild my eye never went off the target. Thank you for going out on the limb with an extraordinary recommendation for this weapon. I love it.
That $799 comment was uncalled for... I knew better though, but my feels...
I already knew the price but my heart skipped a beat when I heard that. I thought maybe they lowered the price or something lol.
Sorry guys, couldn't help it.
@tfbtv definitely one of my bucketlist guns for sure. The gucci pricetag and usage with socom makes it even more attractive. I would be unholy irresponsible with an unlimited defense budget.
@@AJ-xc4nm good thing you never have to worry about an unlimited defense budget
As a decade long fanboi of 300blk this hit me really hard in the feels....if it wasn't for the damn buffer tube my ar pistol would be perfect and I wouldn't even be thinking about a 9mm PCC PDW (other than for reduced ammo costs).
I saw PDW and clicked immediately.
That's like me when your m o m posts on insta

Same. I was hoping for a video on something more TP9/Flux Raider/PSA X57, but this’ll do.
Ditto.
Me too
I just got the Spear LT 300blk 9” version and I love it, I thought about the rattler but I wanted a longer barrel and Handguard as I am a big guy and it’s more comfortable to me also get some extra range and velocity
MCX and MPX are by far my favorites
The Rattler IS absolutely an awesome SBR/PDW, and yes, I do own one. But I also wanted a Canebrake. So, I built a 6.75" version of the Sig using a Wilson Combat Upper/Lower/Bolt, JP Silent Capture Spring, Gieselle Trigger, Maxim Defense Stock, Aero Gen 2 Handguard and Troy Tritium Backup iron sights (The metal ones, not plastic). My Omega 300 suppressor nicely slips half in/Half out of the handguard utilizing a 3 lug mount. The CONS of my build are no adjustable gas block (Which I could install, but do not need it!) and No Right Side Bolt Release (Which I really like!). But, the cost of my build was about $700 less than the Sig (In Oct 2023). My build is also slightly more compact than the Sig, my stock LOP is adjustable, I can utilize all mil-spec AR parts if needed, the weapon feeds/functions 100% with Supers AND Subs and the Sound Suppression is identical between my WC build and my Rattler using the Omega 300. Accuracy is also neck and neck between the two. If you have the bucks, the Sig is definitely Gucci AF. But my $700 less expensive Wilson is pretty much Fire as well!
$799?!?! 😂. You got me…. When you said that, I crapped my pants, pulled a neck muscle as I turned to look at the screen, and started reaching for my phone to call the dealer all at the same time. 😂 That was a good one, although I did call you some choice names for a couple minutes. BWAHAHAHA! 😂

What part did you have swap to change from 5.5 to 6.75? Barrel? I'm thinking of doing that and adding the Midwest handguard.
Dissent? More adjustible, less gassy, tastes great.
and about $1k less in price.
I have one, it's pretty dang good in my opinion.

PSA Jakl vs Sig Rattler. Hop vs James. Give the people what we want, James.
I'd take a Jakl into actual combat before I took an MCX.
And I *do* understand the gravity of that statement.
I'll stick with my DDM4 PDW since it compliments my go to rifle DDMV7 AR15. If my ar bolt goes bad I can switch out my PDW bolt to my ar15 and I'm good to go.
I’ve been avoiding buying any gun in .300 BLK b/c I’m trying not to add another caliber to manage, but this is gun that’ll make me jump in the .300 BLK pool. I got to get me one of these.
the versatility of the round is a solid addition to the "stash", assuming you have a suppressor
Some of those pics of the MCX in the wild were big foot level quality pictures haha
James, the review that you did about a year ago titled "SIG MCX RSAR" at timestamp 3:29 told me what an outstanding weapon this is. Especially, using .300 BO Subsonic!

I’ll be excited about this when psa drops the remix
They did. It's the jakl.
Interesting when did they drop a PDW length? (They haven’t)
PSA makes them in .300 BLK with 8.5" barrels. 1913 stock/brace attatchment, 6 position adjustable gas system, monolithic upper, etc. The Jakl might be a little heavier than the Rattler, and to my knowledge hasn't had the same kind of reliability testing. Assuming equivalent reliability, the cost of the Jakl means the buyer has more money for ammo and a silencer
They make a 7.5” .300. I have one w a law folder and it’s a great piece for a great price. Love to see them do a short short jakl and call it the jaklope
Before you reply, 2” is a BIG difference… logistically.. for a pdw..
Absolutely mind blowing review. I'm sold. Really and quite unexpectedly changed my mind on this gun. Was looking at NUMEROUS other builds but I'm a bit smaller than you are frame wise and I think that THE size of this PDW is actually the correct answer for me. 85K certainly proves the other end of this argument too. The price is up there, but like you stated, the last 25% makes this a no kidding, military to civilian go-to firearm for quality. After two decades in the Military, I wished we had these over what I was given... Thanks for changing my view!
Absolutely an amazing review best one I’ve seen so thank you you’ve just gained a new subscriber
I couldn’t get a 9.5 inch build to run both subs and supers (suppressed). I bit the bullet and bought an MCX upper. I should have done that from the start. I LOVE IT! I can’t wait to get a Rattler. If you’re curious or just bored, I have a few videos on my build on my channel.

I'm very hesitant nowadays when it comes to Sig products. Their QC has visually and virtually taken a hard nosedive over the years ever since they won the military contract. Purchased an MCX virtus patrol upper and I had to return it because of the machining marks and burrs all over the upper. Compared to my original MCX virtus patrol, only two years apart, the difference in QC was negatively surprising.
Bought a g26 15 years ago. Been through 2 instructors classes and 4 civilian based pistol courses. The slide barely looks like I've drawn it over the years. Finally folded and bought a sig365x as the g26 size was finally getting annoying. One 500 round class and 50 at home draws and the finish is rubbed off showing steel. Don't care but it shows the finish quality/durability.
Would mever buy a dog based primarily on the fact that all they produce is trash that doesn’t work. Can’t even make a Glock correctly meanwhile Psa is making products 10x better at half the price
@@caseyschryber1255wut
I had burrs and function issues with my Virtus.... it now works great but only with high pressure 556. .223 will most likely not lock open after last round. Have you seen the swat shootout video where 2-3 mcx rifles fail to function? REALLY gives you pause on buying sig products. I just bought a sig romeo 8T and when torqued to specs onto virtus, the clamping claw has flawed machining and caused damage to my upper that required me to replace both the upper and send optic into sig.... IM SO DISENFRANCHISED with sig now....
@@jeremygrbj4745 I've literally never touched a weapon in my life, but ever since Sig convinced the army to buy a battle rifle in a proprietary cartridge and with redundant charging handles, I've always been leery of anything with their name on it

Me too.
No wonder they are so expensive, Sig still trying to recoup from 85,000 rounds of 300BO.
I have had an MCX in 300 blackout for years. Love it! I want one of these rattlers so bad!

I almost bought one of gen 1's but they were out of stock everywhere, I am not a fan of Q guns, so I went with the Daniel Defense PDW. Glad I did. Dissent wasn't around at the time, not sure which I would have went with at that point if it had but I couldn't be happier with my gucci'd out PDW. Running a nomad 30, eotech, and Geissele SDE Flat. Was messing around with a somogear peq 15 and with the can on its held zero very well. All around happy with the 300blk. Just glad I bought ammo before it skyrocketed.
And for only 2700 without a suppressor, brace/stock, form 4 or optic! Nice!
3600-4000 or more by the time you adopt those necessary add ons you mentioned
@@Goldtech6973 I'm over $5K for mine.
Great video James! Now that the new Rattled is compatible with all modifications of the Spear Lt, would love to see a video on how this MCX could be the number 1 SHTF rifle being you now have 4 caliber choices. 5.56, .300BLK, x39, and .22LR using the CMMG Bravo kit + Ilumnd Arms .22 mcx adapter.
14:28 - Dammit James! You had me going for a sec. That said, if they could get the price sub $2k, I think that would be a good buy.
I think they would have to lower the price that they charge the government so probably not going to happen unfortunately 🥺
Ahhh, to dream. I think SIGs ultimate goal is to have $2k be the minimum entry point for long guns and they'll eventually get their pistols to $1k. It's only going up from here.
Probably could find the upper for 2k or under and slap it on an AR15 lower.
I have the maxim pdx and I love it. But I can’t lie I want this and the honey badger but definitely going with this one next.
@@mikeh2990 I would but I got mine for half the cost because guy was trying to sell it to a store and they only offered him 600. And I am going to have a sweet set up. I will put it on my page. I might end up just buying one if I can find the one I want. The new 7 in barrel seems like the way to go. How much did they give you on trade?
Old rattler is way heavy, but shoots great.
@@mikeh2990 jesus christ that's heavy
You try hitting it with your purse ? Gosh you’d die if you carried an AK then
I don't know how much lighter the Rattler LT is, but the original 5.5" Rattler weighs 4lbs and 12oz, that's without a stock though so it goes up from there. Spear LT 9" 300blk is about half a pound heavier at 5lbs and 3oz, without a stock as well.
Update, got the Rattler LT, roughly same weight as the original Rattler, 4lbs and around 11.5 to 12oz. I mean there is some weight savings considering it has a longer barrel and handguard, but I'm sure this is more noticeable on the longer Spear LT models vs the Virtus. Also I weighed the original 5.5" Rattler with the Midwest handguard installed, slightly lighter and similar handguard to the LT models, if I remember correctly it weighed 4lbs, 13.5oz with the stock handguard for what it's worth.
Swappable gas valve is huge for me. I run an srd762 and holy back pressure batman. I dislike screw type adj gasblacks and having a tunable “switch block” would help me a lot.
Dangit. This kills all of the reasons that I dont have a rattler. Now I need.
BRAVO ZULU! Excellent coverage on the platform. I'm in.
I haven’t been this early for a video since James wore relaxed fit jeans.
Now we know 😂

One thing no one ever seems to talk about with Q's Honey badger is how awful it is just to take apart, and I'm not talking like complete tear down. I'm talking about a task as simple as taking out a BCG and putting it back in...
That's why I ended up buying the SIG canebrake.
We received a Honey Badger at our FFL, every one of us was in shock with such a stupid design choice, but as usual the people defend them here in the comments. Rattler LT is way better and actually sees top tier SOF use.
@@great_deception I work in the automotive field and see a lot of stupid designs that make me say wtf out loud. Never had that moment in the pew community until I seen the disassembly / reassembly of the honey badger. Here I thought it was just another DI ar15. I believe maxim defense and GQ armory uses a similar BCG design.
Its the round. It makes sense that the Rattler can fire an absurd amount of rounds becasue the pressure of the 300 round is similar to the X39 and Ak's are famous for ridicules lifespans. And the rattler is probably made to an even higher standard that the AMK imho. (And those numbers are really similar to an AK lifespans I know of. Sometimes 15k rounds on Russian guns with no issues.)
Reliable. Expensive. Like a Land Cruiser.
I went with the Spear-for the 9 inch barrel,- but I plan on eventually picking up a Rattler. Great video as always
So, why the $300 + increase over the Sig Sauer LT 300 BLK in a 9 inch barrel? It just seems that Sig is trying to make the Civilian market pay for the shortfall in their Government contracts.
All their stuff went up big the last pricing cycle. We have stuff in the shop like Spear LT rifles that cost us significantly less than the spear LT pistols at current wholesale

Me. I'm one of those that built a 6" 300blk AR with a folding adapter because much as I liked the Rattler, I just wasn't a fan of the proprietary parts and some of the bulk around the handguard. This new LT is making me rethink towards getting one.
The only reason I’m interested in folding PDWs is *MAYBE* a bag gun in a get-home bag. To that extent, folding flat it mandatory, and there’s only two 300BLK guns out there that fold flat that I’d consider, this and the dissent.
As soon as someone comes out with an oversized handguard for a tucked can, I'm buying one.
They exist.
@@AJ-xc4nm I know they exist for the older style MCX's. But doesnt the newer Spear LT have a different handguard screw configuration?
@JH-sm3ci the whole point of the lt mcx's is to add cross compatibility with all other lt guns. There is a line of sd lt handguards, especially for the rattler
Informative and aesthetically pleasing as usual
I still think the Spear LT 9” 300BLK is better - only slightly longer(meaning better rail space), 9” ideal 300blk barrel length, cheaper by $200, better able to add a 11.5” 556 barrel if you want to change calibers without it looking weird with a long barrel/short handguard, has forward assist, and most importantly . . . Be aware that 300 blackout has a major flaw. You can’t switch from subsonic to SuperSonics without rezeroing your sights. The creator of 300 blackout suggests running two lightweight red dots back to back, or getting an Sig Sauer 9t which costs $5,000. That’s not a typo!

Aren't ALL firearms really personal defense weapons?
Nope some are country defense weapons
I would say you are right... but for me the definition of a personal defense weapon is a Glock 19....
The Rattler is my third MCX, just got it a couple days ago. Waiting for a Surefire SOCOM SPS 300 suppressor, but I’m gonna take it out for some unsuppressed shooting tomorrow. I expect it to bark like my Krinks with a substantial fireball, but I think the fireball will be less with the Rattler. James is right, the grip sucks, and mine has an Sig brace which isn’t too good, but the trigger is fine. I don’t want something light like a SSA-E, because it’s not that kind of weapon, but I will say that the charging handle is being replaced with a Radian. The safety came incredibly stiff and I lubed the entire pistol trying to loosen it up. Watching TV and running the safety and charging handle a few hundred times has helped, but the safety may get replaced too. The Rattler currently has an EXPS 2 on a Unity riser, but I’ve got a T2 and am thinking of putting it on instead of the EOTECH to save 10 OZ! The Rattler folds to a very small package, but the EOTECH takes some of the fun by adding a lot of weight I don’t want to sling. I’ll have to run the Rattler with both optics before I’ll be able to decide, EOTECH is hands down better for passive night vision however. My MCX LT 11.5” in 5.56 has loosened up nicely, and I really like it, except the brace which will get 0:15 remedied eventually. The Rattler is incredibly cool, and small for the serious power it can unleash. When I get it set up I think the Rattler will be my go to home defense and truck weapon.
Is this some kind of JAKL clone?

It costs 2x what everything else does, so it has to be awesome!
Tell us how unreliable the Rattler is.
Call SOCOM and the 12+ other country SOF units adopting it and tell them they are adopting the wrong gun, I would love to know what they tell you. Cope harder that your favorite brand is probably only found in the trailer park you come from.
I loved the review and details on the video.
Not the Honeybadger ?!
Really neat, handy little firearm, and if someone wants or "needs" one I certainly understand. It is just hard for me to justify the cost, ?$2,700 just for the pistol, no brace? when I can build a 300 Blackout 6" to 10.5" AR pistol with quality parts and a Tailhook Mod 2 or SBA 3 brace for $800, and all with non proprietary easy to obtain parts. For the same money as the Sig I can build the AR pistol, purchase a suppressor, optic and buy a pile of 300 Blackout ammo. I already have too many different cartridges for shooting Texas hogs and coyotes, 5.56, 7.62x39, 300 Ham'r, 350 Legend and 450 Bushmaster, but all this has me thinking I need to add a 300 Blackout pistol to the mix, dammit. Plus 300 Blackout has got way more affordable to shoot than it was in the past. Firearms options are a good thing.
Cmmg Dissent.
In tough places, it is always best to have the top of the line!
2:08- “Assault rifles?” Did I hear that correctly? If so, that helps the lefts narrative

Was not prepared for the price!
Amazing you got that cheek riser to stay on while filming this. I had to wrap mine in hockey tape.
Probably because it’s installed incorrectly. Check the lock piece.
In my mind, a good PDW has the magazine in the pistol grip for shorter overall length, like an Uzi, Mac10, or possibly on the top like the P90, or the Calico M900 or something.
Sig needs to upgrade the Canebrake and the Tacops to the LT line as well
If they made a Canebrake variant and in FDE/black 2-tone like the original, I would definitely jump to get it, to replace my old one.
Gotta love your videos. Had it playing on my side tablet as I was working and at 14:29 you got me good 😂 😂. I did a hard head turn left when u said $799 just to get the two fingers 😂 😂
Ironically, arguably, the better option is the MCX Virtus 300blk SBR 10.3”, with a better gas system, it’s tougher, better trigger. The 5.5” Rattler is 4.8” shorter in the barrel making it a true PDW, but for the size of your thumb base to your finger tip you are giving up a lot; the 300blk likes 9” to 11” with 9” being the best acceptable lower mark. Ballistics evaluation sees a drop in 300blk but not appreciable down to 9”, then we start to see a drop, and an appreciable drop from 9” to 5”, which drives evaluation to conclude the “best minimum for 300blk is 9”. Granted, does a civilian really believe the difference will make a difference in the civilian world? I contend probably not, so it comes down to what you like, doesn’t it?
If you are in a vehicle with the PDW under your coat or jacket, suppressed, the Rattler is better because then size matters, but you are also not a civilian; you’re a jump-out-boy. If you have your weapon in a backpack or armory briefcase, as mine is, with a QD suppressor packed along side, then the MCX Virtus 10.3” SBR gives you more options and it can be deployed a mere five seconds slower; its then a “truck gun”, a “bug-out gun”, and you are a civilian. Civilians don’t put their PDW on them get in the car and drive around. By law, they don’t. Just something to keep in mind.
Just once I want to see hop do a video on the expensive gun. Get him a staccato or maybe one of those 6k revolvers. Then make him answer the question. Is it compatible with night vision?
Thanks for flicking me off at 7:22. I kinda feel like I deserved it for not having one of these or one of those sweet SIG cans.
300 Blackout vs 10mm PCC?
Nice gun. It would be nice if it had one of those hand guards that extended into the flash hider suppressor area.
