    I like the new channel name. I changed mine a while back for same reason. You will do great in 100K. I am adventure jogger and hit the ultras every month. I race against the clock only since my goal is to finish. I typically pass many people late in races during that pain cave phase since I am relaxed and not competitive. As she mentioned the pain will come but just be prepared with continued eating, chafing prep, and good attitude. The tongue is rudder of body, if you start talking like you will fail then you will since last half is mostly the mental game as you mentioned. Good luck

      Super wise words Richard, I really appreciate your advice there. "The tongue is the rudder of the body" I love that! So true! :) I'm actually aiming to WALK off the start line and not get caught up with that adrenaline build up to really bank that emotion and physical energy for later on in that cave! Thanks for watching my man.

      @@trailrunningphil That is a great strategy. Those words are from Chad Wright. He is a ultra runner and retired Navy seal. A great voice for the sport. Check out his recent interview on the The Bare Performance channel with Nick Bare. He talks about it. It is a great talk.

    Great insights here regarding the mindset for ultra running! I am very similar to Courtney's outlook in that I see no point in trying to deny the pain of distance running! Be at peace with the pain! Great vlog Phil! Beautiful trail as well! Keep pushing my friend!

      Yeah I hear you, and for a year I felt it was something that made my channel unique but then I realized I wasn't really making much content for the music so decided to niche down a little. I may create a separate channel for my music and see how that goes. Hope your fit and well and ready for your race that's around the corner! You and me both! :)

      Every runner has different reasons for why they run, it’s the simplistic reason why so many people do it. I just hope that runners like us can pull people back may have been “put off” running anymore because they aren’t running as fast
      as they used too. Yeah on the taper now! :)

    Hi Phil, I've never been to Breckon Beacons so it's nice to be able to see it on video. I with you on this one when it comes to running. I don't care about PBs and times. I love the feeling of exercising in beautiful nature places. By the way, I should have paid for proper sports physio because my calf is still crap and I still can't run, even after all the massaging (not professional) and strengthening exercises. It's very frustrating. Hope your ultra goes smoothly. Nice to hear your thoughts during your outing.

    • @trailrunningphil
      @trailrunningphil  2 роки тому +1

      We have all been there Olga. Googled what it could be and then dealt with it ourselves. I was lucky that I only needed a proper sports massage in the right area to fix my issue but there could be all sorts of reasons why your calf is hurting so you should really consider getting some professional advice. If your anything like me, not running must make you angry and frustrated and so consider it a good investment in your mental health as well as fixing your physical issues. Good luck with it and I hope you get to the bottom of it soon. Thanks for watching my video :)

    Great video Phil. I absolutely love running the Brecon Beacons and enjoyed you experiencing it here too. I did 2 x recce runs earlier this year, followed by an ultra in late April, and it's one of my favourites now. I had a good chuckle at your stumble coming out the river/bog - only because it happened to me many times too. I think we all run a bit of an elevated risk of injury in this landscape - it can be pretty harsh! Hope the rest of your training for TP100 goes well.

    Lovely scenes. We love running in Wales but our idea of an off road adventure is running up and down the Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal.
    Noting the splits and heart rate data as we do it 😉
    We appreciate all runners and how they embrace the sport in different ways.

      @tworunningbrooms 2 роки тому +1

      @@trailrunningphil sadly not as that was before our videoing days. It was the sort of canal where you could never see more than 200 yards in front due to the twists to follow the contours.
      I (John) liked counting the bridge numbers.

    Epic views for sure. Courtney is my inspiration too. You covered a lot of good topics on your run Phil. The 360 camera really does great for running vlogs. Question, what mic are you using... it sounds great.

    • @trailrunningphil
      @trailrunningphil  2 роки тому +1

      Yes and Insta 360 have just released the x3 which is even better in low light! I recently purchased the dji mic for my audio as the sound quality I thought was fairly low in windy conditions on the insta360 x2. I don't need a RX and a TX because the TX on the dji mic has its own built in recorder! It can store 15 hours of audio and you just plug it into your computer via usb and drag and drop the audio files straight in. It's super easy to sync the audio to the video in davinci afterwards using the auto sync feature. Thanks for taking the time to view the video my man. I look forward to seeing what you achieve with your new bit of kit!! :)

      Last time I ran an ultra, my camera battery died on me just when I started to enter that same pain cave and so this time around, I hope with two batteries, I can document just how I deal with it as its happening!! Its all good and well saying it before the race, but the mental battle is something that I find fascinating! Thanks as ever for watching the video Ben :)
