Very interesting video. Nice photos. Sounds like this would make a interesting portrait lens. I past thru Albany a week ago on my way though the Adirondacks to Lake Placid to see the Olympic facilities there. I live in Florida & really enjoyed the area even if it was a little cool for me.

Thank you Don, some great images of fine architecture.
I think that it is fabulous that you make the time to share all these terrific lenses from days gone by. It is also great that they still take lovely images.
    Many thanks 🎉🎉🎉

@@dongummphotography Yes. My wife and I are holidaying in Greece. I am getting some great shots with my Olympus 28mm f3.5 and my Olympus 135mm f3.5. Using both on my original E-M1. Cheers.

Great overview of the Cooke triplet, thanks for this review. I don’t have the E. Ludwig Meritar, but in my Argus C-C2-C3 period, I completely disassembled and CLA’ed more than 20 Cintar 50mm f/3.5 Cooke triplets. I discovered that there was a wide range of design modifications over the series. They used cork spacers for the elements in some designs before WWII, they changed the iris diaphragm from a 10-blade iris, to an 11-blade one just after the war, then back to a 10-blade design. And, some time in 1946, they started single-coating the lens. It’s generally considered that their quality control was patchy and, indeed, there is some variation in performance that I’ve noticed, even later in the series. Good examples are impressively sharp, and one or two of mine have a special rendition that give an almost 3D “pop” for close subjects. These lenses only focus down to about 3 feet (or 3.5 feet for the earliest versions on the 1938 Argus C), like the one you reviewed, so “close” is a relative term.

@argusc3310 Good information! In looking for a triplet lens to review, I found an adapter for Argus C3 and some later variants on ebay. The seller is rareadapters.com. Here is a link to the Micro Four Thirds version but they have adapters for other mirrorless cameras.
      www.ebay.com/itm/185090109641?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=a-X7f7jVQqG&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=uUuY47wMQrG&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
I may have to get one of the adapters. I have a number of C3s of various models and vintages so that may be a fun project.

@@dongummphotography Thanks for that link, Don. I’ll have to pick up one of those adapters. I have several MFT cameras, including two EM5 Mkii’s and a Pen-F. Regards.

That looks like a version of the Meyer-Optik Görlitz Trioplan 50 mm f2.9 V.

The old versión of 1950s, not the new and too expensive versión.

@CarlosCarreter I thought that too, but when you look closely at them, they are quite different. They are both Cooke triplet lenses, though, and both share an odd f2.9 maximum aperture.

I don`t get it. What`s so special about this lens. What do i have to look for.
I think it`s rather boring and low contrast.
