Some people are so defensive of Haaland. His goal scoring is insane and he will break records, but the point Pep is making here, is that Messi was overall a more complete player than anyone at 22. His passing, his dribbling, his vision, the way he dictates the games, the quality of his finishing. Botton line Pep is making, is there's a lot more to football than just scoring goals.
Depends whats your position. Sure, Messi could dribble past 5 defenders but Haaland can score a goal having 3 players on himself.
So Messi was certainly a lot better in many aspects (ball controll, dribbling, playmaking, crosses, passes, you name it). But you can already see that Haaland is faster than Messi, has better short range shots (and certainly a lot stronger; Messi seems to be better in distance shots though), insane position anticipation, INSANE physicality which makes him already outstanding forward.
So ye, Haaland might become the greatest CF in history. You cant say "Messi is overall better than Haaland" because Messi is worse than Haaland as pure nr9. But Messi isnt just a nr9. And ye, Messi is/was more crucial for his teams.
That being said, todays City seems on pair with 2011/2012 Barcelona (at least for now). Imo City HAS TO win CL this year.

And just for starters at 22 even with shorter legs Messi was faster, he literally had half the team chasing him as he was running with the ball. Secondly at 22 Messi got a ballon d'or. And btw, Ronaldo never was an exceptional dirbbler. There were a lot better in this aspect than Ronaldo - Neymar, Brasilian Ronaldo, Ronnie, Messi even likes of Dembele, Vini jr. (already better) and countless of others. His strongest side was great physicality, great finish, geart headers, great shoots etc. it looks now like Haaland is actually even better finisher (and this is why the whole football world is talking about Haaland now).

Personally, and I hope I can look back on this comment: Haaland, Mbappe, and any others right now in the conversation- much of them rely on their young age and the strength they have by running, being able to defend and receive and run with it. Messi, early Neymar, and Ronaldo at that age already showed high caliber skill of dribbling, passing, etc. and it’s not something that can be taught. All there is to say is that these younger players coming up now will have interesting careers and whether this comment will be true or not will take time.
Haaland is a goal poacher. He's not a brilliant footballer like the likes of Messi, R9, R10, Zidane etc. These guys could dominate the game on their own. Haaland needs a team and he needs to be fed chances and he will score goals. 95% of the goals Haaland scores will be "tap-in" goals or from clear cut chances. He's not going to be a player that takes on players and creates chances on his own. He's quick, strong, has good balance and good finishing and have a lot of the qualities of a text book striker. I'd compare him with the likes of Lewandowski, Van Basten, Batistuta, Van Nistelrooy etc.
I agree to most of what you say except for Van Basten. Van Basten was in fact a better technical player than Ronaldo Nazario, unfortunately his career was cut short due to injuries. Van Basten was elegant and highly technical.

R9 was different type of player. He was kind of mix of Messi and Lewandowski with great speed (that is technical striker who could dribble past several opponents to score a goal).
Haaland on the other hand is better than any of them in terms of finishing. No one ever was scoring as many goals at the age of 22.

Harder league... Laughable. The only reason they are more physical in that League it's because they are less technical. Typically players that are not as technical will get more physical to compensate and that's what the league does. This is why it requires foreign coaches who focus on the technical to come into the league to finally win a champions League. La Liga is vastly more Superior than the EPL the only difference is the EPL gets better marketing. This is why the champions league has become the ultimate trophy for club team. EPL teams have not done very well.

being strong and big like halaand is really hard to control and dribble. Halaand is good with dribbling and is very fast with that athletic build. In dortmund he made more runs and knew how to adapt in a system. Halaand is an adapter in football clubs. With city its harder to do the dribbling because he now has a complete team to help him rather him just doing the work and he is not selfish for the ball wanting to show. His poitioning, timing etc. He can even be a better player maker since he has the vision to give assists as well. I truly believe halaand could surpass messi and ronaldo and zlatan
