This channel is so underrated! I’ve been getting into fly tying recently and the tying series has been super helpful. I’ve been fly fishing for a little while but I still end up learning something by watching your other videos as well. I’ve never thought of adding a small section of tippet to keep the split shot from sliding. I’ll definitely try that next time I’m streamer fishing!
Going out tomorrow, on up side, is it better to use a loop knot with the streamer ? You guys do great work, catching up on videos. I'm a newbie to this. Thanks for all you do to help us out.
Hey! Glad you’re enjoying the videos. The loop knot does help it give a little bit better action in the water, but if you’re new… the clinch knot will work just fine.
Lost a piece of myself last week when I snapped off one of my Ventures elk hair caddis flies 😂 not bad for only losing two flies in my first year of hack casting though.
So I apologize but I’m afraid of breaking my 800+ set up. But what weight/size is good for 5wt rigs? Should I stick to a heavier rod? I want to use my 5wt instead of 8wt but I’m afraid of breaking my rod or snapping my line attempting a hook up.
Great question. You won’t have any problems just sticking with the set up in this video with smaller streamers (sizes 10 to 6). You could even pick up a 5 wt sink tip line and use that without any issues.
