Yeah if it was me, I would've started with the 4X4 fender and bed base, and cut the stock metal in sections and built the box flares from the metal directly on the truck.... IDK if he knows this is what can be done.... otherwise, even if he got matching round flares for the back and a wider wheel and tire with a fitting offset to match the front, it still would've looked pretty damn good, but having a "widebody" on just the front looks silly 😅
Edit: disregard my statement, it seems I paused and commented a second too early as literally after commenting above and continuing to watch, he said he "might" do exactly as I said 😅🤣
If he reads this, think pie cuts, for fenders, just cut them in sections and bend them to the desired shape, otherwise, make some box metal over fenders with all the stuff he's got around and then weld them up and finish.....done

The flares being so round for the wheel well makes it look a little funny to me as well. The metal wide body might be a little hard to fix in the instance of a crash, but I’m stoked to see it. As for the rest, The skirts look really good, but I would add the parts to at least the sides of the rear of the bed as well, it’ll look pretty good and level it much better I think. As it sits, the rear is higher than the rest by a good bit

This truck has really shown your progress on engineering and fabrication. I remember watching you take Molly to car meets still living with your parents. This is the quality I want to see at SEMA also, something that shows true skills. • @YRR_J

A Group B / DTM style would be my thing. Something like a Golf Rallye / BMW M3 DTM. Either steel or fiber stuff. With a plasma cutter I think you could do some magic if you went with steel.
The flare you have there now is going against every other line that the car has. It totally destroys the boxy feeling and the look of the car.

I was not minding how the truck was looking when you put on the body kit, but I agree the fender flares don't really work. But I'm only saying it because you said it, so it's a minor issue in my mind because you did need to do something about all the wheel poke.
Also, I love the idea of wide bodying the truck out.. I kinda hope for the back you can find some fat looking tubbies and make the truck look a little dully pickup if that gives you any fun ideas to work with.

  • @joecosta3416

I've been thinking since the beginning that it'd be really cool to use two 2wd front fenders on each side to get it wide. I think you could keep the 2wd fenders for the front and top, then add a second 2wd fender as the wider portion, probably cutting it down at certain sections to make it look very intentional (I'm a big fan of the 2wd fender look, but whatever you prefer)
So here's what I'm thinking: maybe at the front, cut the outer fender straight down (with a curve following the headlight line) maybe a few inches back, which could be made into a functional scoop or just be open. The sides near the door could probably be kept original, but probably easy to get creative there. The tops, you could probably add an easy flat panel where you could add big fender vents, or maybe just keep it wide open with only the braces showing?
I love the narrow look of the truck, think that looks so cool. I think doing it with two fenders would keep the narrow look and not need to do any of the body work to get the area near the headlight to work. Feel like it'd be really easy to make that look goofy and not be totally happy with it. This way, I think you could keep the original body lines much easier and make it all look more *right*. Whatever you end up doing will look great I'm sure, very sick build!

There is an English UA-cam channel called The Anarchy Garage, they have made a wide body kit for a Mercedes Estate. Basically they just brought another car, cut the front and rear wings of that car and welded them onto the project car with a piece of metal filling the gap. As you already have another bed and another set of from wings you have everything you need. There car was supposed to look rough but I’m sure you could do it and make it look like it is supposed to be there.

TBH metal wide body sounds amazing. But it has to be super functional so that it keeps the chances of breaking low. IMO some Audi style box flares would be amazing, and the truck already has the body line to make it wider in that style. I could help you design or sketch that out

Iirc the rear axle had an off-center diff, and one side was shortened to make it centered and symmetrical. If you could get another of the same axle and lengthen the shorter side to match the longer side (or lengthen both sides of the current axle), it would probably come a lot closer to matching the front track width.

Sideskirts looks great! Fender flares might look nice but it desperatly needs similar track width in the back. Nothing will look right before that's sorted. The difference is just to big to ever look great.

The flares add a roundness to a square hard lined truck. Run a square widebody, should flow a bit better. Cheers!
