Very attractive set. Nice sound system. I'm guessing it's Lionel Railsounds.

The A-B-A motive power set looks better and is more prototypical of a passenger engine set up than the A-B-B-A-A...which would have been more likely on a massive freight train...but then the PA's were passenger engines, not for freight. It's a very impressive train with diesel roar, the bell, and the full consist of cars!

AUSTIN, long ago a member of my train club let me know that some Fly onel engines had a problem with the gear tower covers being too short leading to contact with the gears and the jerky motion that your engine shows , the solution is to either remove these covers or shim them up with thin plastic, perhaps this might work for you, take care, Dennis Caruso, Ct S gaugers.

A beautiful train set. Great job getting it running. Fun to watch. I have the Northern Pacific set and pull the A-B-B-A locomotives and seven cars with no issue on level track. Did you have split worm gears out of the box? Nylon worm gears are available from Port Lines Hobbies.
    Thank you for sharing.

Yes...three of the four were split with the engine un-run. I've since worked in several for others and have found them split in every engine I've worked on.

I'd say that's quite the set! I think the wide radius curves help with long trains too. Would oiling the coaches axles help any? That sound unit works pretty good too! Just need the real ALCO smoke!

The diner is hard to find because only half as many diners as sets were produced.

I was looking forward to seeing that long train and to see it running. Lionel made American Flyer looks really good, but I will never buy any more of it. I doubt if I will ever take my three Polar Express coaches out of their boxes again. The wiring and the truck assemblies are so fragile everything keeps coming apart. The last time I ran those cars, I had to keep soldiering connections. Maybe if I find some chassis for the Gilbert heavyweight cars, I will put the PE bodies on those chassis. The Gilbert products are far superior, in my opinion, even if what makes everything work is primitive by today's standards, and operation can be hit or miss. The original Gilbert Flyer is durable and fun, and can be repaired when needed. And much of what I have is older than me and still works!

The sets made in the 1980+90's are closer to the original AC Gilbert..with the earliest using the same open frame motors. These passenger car trucks are like the original flyer. But...more to come that will tie into your comments above

What a truly spectacular looking Missouri Pacific set and add-ons. I find the variations on the Vista Domes so interesting especially the one with the black side frames also having white window silhouettes while all the other cars have yellowed (?) silhouettes. A great Part 2 video and I'm looking forward to Part 3.

Thanks Mike. Some of the comments mentioned there was also a dinner car. I did not know this...one of those is on the way.
