What you wrote was perfect. My aunt has also been scammed by the PCH sweepstakes scam. I always recommend people to share with the family and friends especially those that are vulnerable.
I get why you could think that but you're completely incorrect there's worse people out there sending little children across borders to be used as sex slaves and all sorts of other way worse stuff than some old person losing their retirement funds
It's so irritating that there is so many different scams. It's sometimes hard to track them all so I'm glad that Scam Baiters can help to fight against these scams
They all follow the same general patterns. I would say one good rule to go on, is that if you get any calls supposedly from a company - if you aren't 100% sure it's not a scam, even 0.1% unsure, tell the person on the phone you are going to hang up and call in yourself regarding the issue to verify you've contacted the right company. If it's your bank, get out their card and call the number on the back.
@rany0 can confirm. I was facing an issue with one of my apps, so I reached out to their customer support. A very nice Indian lady was handling my case. She was very apologetic that she couldn't help me cause the company did not have the service/feature I was looking for. I assured her it was not her fault, she was just the middleman getting stuck in the loop.

Omg! My roommate almost fell for this exact scam! I heard her with the guy on speakerphone and I heard the accent and came running downstairs yelling”hang up! Hang up right now! “to her. She was quite confused… the scammer wanted something like 200$ from her for some bs reason. She hung up thank goodness. Thank you for doing this video and helping to spread the word about these scams. Some people are so gullible. But I guess if ya don’t know, ya don’t know. Well, now ya know.

Yes they are criminals. But they're also human beings like you and me. Punishment only works if it goes hand in hand with rehabilitation. What would you prefer? Being locked in a prison until the end of all times, or joining a program to find honest work where they can actually contribute something to society? Think about it before wishing harm to anyone, please. I wish them well: I wish they manage to find a real job as soon as possible. They know they're scamming people, they know that what they're doing is wrong. Tell them how to find honest work that pays enough, and I'm sure most scammers will be happy to take that opportunity.
Here's a tip to spot a scammer on a phone call! If the person has an Indian accent but has an English name, then they are scammers. I grew up in the UK in an Indian majority area and no one I knew had an English name. The closest was a guy named Adamwalla. They abbreviate their names like Nish, Suk or Sheets.
Not always true. Most of the US based call centers have people with Indian accents and American names. Best advice if it sounds off to to the website of the place sending the message and call customer service from there
In England, that's just not the case these days. I know of people from other countries or of other heritage living, even born, here (including even from EU countries) who adopted British names, often similar to their own, because they were sick of their own being mispronounced due to spelling differences, and others who have Indian or Pakistani accents but very British names. Plus people with broad Yorkshire accents but Asian names. Some scammers will adopt other names, but not everyone with an Asian accent and a British name is a scammer, not by a long chalk.

The way this scam works is incredible, hopefully Amazon will see it and find a way to fix it. Maybe a way for people to login on the device itself instead of going to an exterior device.

@@realredditstories420 I'm sorry when i try to connect to amazon prime on a smart tv it gives me a code, QR code or website to put the information in to log it in. Scammers are using that information as part of their scams because people have to either use the QR code, or for older people, go to a website because most don't know how to use a QR reader. If we got rid of having to go to a website in the first place, the scam would be unsuccessful, is what i'm saying
Honestly, these guys are incredibly smart and this plan is honestly foolproof for the average naive person. Do they really need to scam to make a living?
They go through all this effort of renting an office, setting up computers, IP phone system, hiring people, buying Google ads, ect. Why don't they just be a legit call center?! They go through all the trouble of setting it up and then run these illegal scams out of it. I don't understand. They could easily do outsourcing work for legit businesses. If you can train someone to run this scam then you can train them to do phone support for just about anything. I know because I spent the majority of my life working in call centers. It's not that hard.

@@naconaco1 I totally get that. I have always said it takes a certain kind of person to get yelled at on the phone all day for money. No one calls a support line to just say hi and tell you how awesome you are. Every single phone call is a problem to be solved. Even the nicest, politest people you talk to just want a solution so they can get back to their lives. I worked for AOL, MSN, Gateway, ADP, and Capital One. I applied for Comcast but accepted the Cap1 job over it. Every one of them had high turnover. The only people who make careers of it get off the phones within 18 months to go into management or something behind the scenes. Add to that the stress of getting caught because your call center is illegal, I don't understand why they do it.
“I’m going to give the police a call” Yea… that’s the least threatening thing to say to a scammer because the Indian police don’t do anything and the US, Canada and Europe has no jurisdiction.
The threat should be "I'm going to hire a gang of desperate thugs in your area to kick your ass and everyone in that call center. They'll do it for $20 US."
True, although sometimes they actually do take action. Just look at the latest Scambaiter video. They took down a scam operation while cooperating with Punjab police. They were raided and all the scambaiters were watching their CCTV and guiding the police 😄

One thing that may cause so many people to fall for this is that Amazon does in fact have lots of "premium" services that upgrade their basic services. Amazon Music is a prime example, no pun intended, and is probably one that most people are aware of.
In my experience with Amazon scammers, once they get into your account they'll order gift cards and steal the codes... in fact that happens 99% of the time it seams... not sure about the prime tv activation scammers, but I kinda think they would do that.... I deal with these jerks every day.
Thank you for what you do. Although you would think that common sense should kick in when dealing with scammers, not everyone thinks this way especially the elderly. These scammers are always coming up with new tactics, so keep doing the great job that you do.
Ben - my question is related to Google. With all the AI technology the purport to have, why isn't the system immediately flagging these fake sites and ads? I would love to see you do a piece on that because no matter what laws are in place or education that is made available, if sending you to a scammer is as simple as clicking on top returns in Google, the problem will never go away.
@@davemarm Nothing, but Google won't take the money if they suspect click fraud from the same IP, unless you're running a botnet or have 10,000 people clicking the links you're not gonna effect them much. It costs a few pennies per click.
Old man in the Comcast store yesterday was being helped by the nice employee for 2 hours when I was there this weekend... I guess he had fallen for an "Amazon" scam and lost his Comcast email. Scammers took everything and were trying to re-route all of his bank sign-ins and such. Sad to see :( Luckily the old email was shut down and a new one created in store that was able to forward the majority of emails coming to the old one.
@@jondoe406 Plenty of older people are savvy, plenty of younger ones get scammed. It's not confined to older people. I have a friend of over 90 who is brilliant at dealing with scammers, and friends decades younger who have got scammed when they have been stressed and just not as attentive as usual. It absolutely can happen to anyone who has any digital footprint- and even some that do not, who just have a landline phone. People get scammed into going into their banks and taking out money and giving it to strangers. They are groomed slowly into doing it, even lying to their banks, because they are conned into thinking they are helping the cops catch a scammer, or told this is the only way to stop money being scammed from their account.
I want to thank you for giving new information that I had not heard before. I was about to get ready to close early but then heard a little bit and started to listen and finish till the end. This is a new UA-cam that I'll be sitting to family and encourage them to listen to the end because even my kids who feel that they're very up on everything are now in their 40s and they are not. It's so easy to remember when you put in your first hard disk instead of your using your TRS tape recorder that eventually you get too old to keep up on everything. Lol. So I just want to say thank you I'm sure it will save me money because my desire to read everything and fool with these people on the phone has gotten less as I'm in my seventies. So just keep up the good work and I'll keep listening and seeing what's happening. ❤️

It is so funny because ever since I started watching your videos, I play with the scammers myself. When I get A phone call from Social Security saying that my number has been compromised or a Amazon call I start playing with them. I tried to waste their time at one point I got cussed at because I messed up on giving them information. But it is so funny when they call me and I keep them on the phone for at least 10 to 20 minutes just to waste their time I have not received any more phone calls to my home or my cell phone so I guess they must’ve gave up on scamming me I’ve been kind of bored lol
I wouldn't do this tbh because they can sell your phone number to other scammers so you will get called more often which can be annoying I guess but up to you

Google is a multi-billion dollar corporation. They have trillions of websites stretched across 900,000 servers. Scam sites would be impossible to police. Plus websites aren't just "put" on Google, they need to be registered, and domain registrar companies like namecheap (a popular one for scammers) do that. Realistically the best way to stop these sites would be to nip them in the bud - if registrars did more to vet websites, they'd never be there to scam people in the first place
@@jasperraines4431 Google could also do even a little bit of vetting before running ads for something, they don't have to put ads up without looking into the business requesting them they're just lazy and profiting off of it
We helped my mother-in-law set up her UA-cam account for watching on her TV. The prompt it gave us was to open the Google app, not visit any particular website. We did have to help her get the app open, but that seems a more secure method than telling people to go to a specific url (assuming they understand the instructions in the first place).
Really, good informative video. As someone who has had an Amazon account for many years, I can easily see how people can be scammed this way. Amazon will always prompt you to sign into your account any time you make a new purchase or add a new service (email address or phone number associated with your account plus your password). And if you re-set your Amazon password for any reason, you will get that one-time code that only you need access to: Amazon will not send you that code and then ask you to provide that code over the phone to their so-called "representative."
Honestly this is one of the more well thought out and believable scams I have seen I could totally see a bunch of old people or maybe just people who live under rocks falling for it wow
Best thing to do is NEVER leave a payment card tied to your Amazon account. That way, even if a scammer gains access to it, they cannot order anything. You wouldn't leave your credit card with a shop assistant in real life (in case you wanted to come back & shop there again), so DON'T do it online either!
When I log into Amazon from a different ISP and order anything they make me enter the code on the back. Also, I wouldn’t be giving them the 2FA code for anything.
Yep, I was surprised the scammers went for the "send money over paypal to blah blah blah your 4k" BS. They could just activate the TV for "free", then instantly use their access to the account order a shit ton of gift vouchers or resellable goods (Amazon operate in India, so dead easy). Frustrating how people fall for these scams, and also frustrating to see how sloppy the scammers themselves are. "Get of the way, amateur! I'll show you how to run a grift!"
@Christopher Wiggins you can remove your card from Amazon so it's not linked to your account. Of course you have to enter it every time you buy something and remove it again. A small inconvenience to not let someone have access to your card.
In the past when I got a scammer call. I would get angry and yell at them. Telling them this is a scam and they should be ashamed of themselves. But afterwords I would still be angry. So I changed how I responded. In their culture, it is not polite to jump right into the business at hand. So when I got their call. I would say “Hello, how are you?” “And is your family are they all well?” “Your parents are they well?” We would have this conversation about my scammer’s family. The scammer would be a bit confused. Eventually I would sweetly say we both know this is a scam and I hope they get a better job soon. Goodbye.” With that approach I was not angry after the call. Only one time the scammer called me back and demanded I find him the better job. I politely told him I didn’t live in his country so I could not help him get a job. When I was done with these calls I was not angry, my blood pressure was not up. It was just sadly funny.
When I can be bothered, I play a bit. I have even got one of them to put the phone down on me after a long call. Sometimes I hear them out a bit and then finish the call with a curse, as in, a quiet and creepy witch-type curse on them for lying.
Thank you for making these videos. I was scammed when i was 13 years old with a so called virus on my new desktop. As a 13 year old that needed to get homework done i asked my mom to pay for the virus pfotection it had on the screen and call a number. It was unsuspecting. I'm 30 now, and I still think about that day I wasted my single moms hard earned money, she wanted me to excell in school so she didn't mind paying it. You pay for prime shipping and not the videoservice. The Videos are just a package they add along with twitch prime etc. You could also go by "paying a playstation fee - and still having to buy the games that are not in your pack" with this logic
On a "cord cutting" forum, about twice a year we get someone announcing that Roku is no longer free. Yes, to keep our Roku devices running, we'll need to start paying Roku a monthly fee. Invariably after a few questions we figure out that a scammer called them, they gave the scammer their Roku password (!), then the scammer shut the device down saying Roku requires a monthly fee now. The annoying thing is most of the time we can't convince them that they have been scammed!!! They always say something like, "You'll find out I'm right! real soon" or something like it and they never come back.
My inlaws fell for this scam literally last week, got taken for about 30k, and didn't tell anyone until a 4 days later. As a tech professional who has prevented this from happening to my own parents (they fell for it too but called me right away because "something didn't feel right", and was able to help them cancel the transaction before it went through and cleaned up their laptop), this particular one makes me sick.
Ironically, the people savvy enough to use an ad blocker are the same people who know not to click the ad in the first place. Also, I feel like the vast majority of people will use a mobile device for activation when setting up prime on their tv. I block ads on my laptop but I'm not aware of Adblock on iOS for example

Yes I got call awhile ago from Amazon prime, she told me apparently my free subscription was over and it didn’t cancel it properly lol. I told her I don’t have Amazon prime I started laughing and she was like why are you laughing and I said coz I know your a scammer and don’t have prime

It's so painful hearing these victims. I have my elderly parents and my elderly uncle that I'm constantly updating them with scam information and NOT to talk to anyone except me about their cellphones, their smart tvs, and their computers. I had to talk my uncle out of buying a computer because I was terrified that he wouldn't contact me to help because he'd think he was bothering me and he's super gullible. It's quite sad really. I worry constantly about them and then I worry about me and my husband who are childless and we won't have someone looking out for our safety when we're in our seventies unless Alexa gets a new feature to protect customers.
I was alerted about an iphone that was charged to my Amazon account . I had to call a private number but I hung up on the man because I couldnt hear or understand him. Then I called Amazon real number and talked to there customer service and asked them about what I was told I didnt know for sure that it was a scam I'm learning more. Thanks for these videos
My elderly Mum has now got very good at dealing with scammers, but they come out with new ones all the time. Basically, though, she is now hard wired never to give anyone information, no matter who they are; she just says 'my (son/son-in-law) deals with all that' and puts the phone down. And she has stopped being polite, or even answering with a 'yes'. She was a bit shocked, though, when I was there and asked for the phone when one of the 'this is Windows' lot rang up and I just told him to FO..... which is what I say at home.
I worked in HVAC. Most of the equipment manufacturers have free tech support services available for repair technicians Over the last few years, scammers have been posting fake posts posing as various manufacturers. I didn’t work on Sanyo AC equipment much and needed guidance on one of their units. Found a number on a Google search and called it. A person with an American name and heavy Indian accent answered. She said that I would receive a $500 gift card if I subscribed to “Sanyo Tech Support Services” and they would not help me unless I subscribed. I knew right away that this was a scam. The HVAC equipment market is very competitive Manufacturers bend over backwards to help service technicians because they don’t want tradespeople giving their products a bad reputation.
Didn’t know how this one worked. Thanks for the info. Have received a lot of emails like this recently. Just deleted them. Glad to have a better understanding now and can pass it on to friends and family.

Had a guy at work that got caught up in the same mess. He paid, they wanted more money and it became a vicious cycle. He had enough and went to the authorities,he would have went earlier, but he was embarrassed and scared. The amount of relief he felt with the agent he worked with and assured him that he didn’t do anything wrong or illegal (just be more careful in the future). If you are in this situation just understand there is help and light at the end of the ordeal. If you know someone going through it, be supportive and understanding. This is sickening there are people that pray on peoples vulnerabilities. I hope this helps and my heart goes out to the family.
Fun fact. My son works for Amazon as a programmer. I was amazed at all the perks he got. I asked him what it would take for him to get fired. He allowed that he was in demand and that were he inclined to abuse his perks it would still be hard to get fired. However, he did say that if he ever hung up on a customer it would probably get him fired. The fact that the gal hung up shows she did not work for Amazon.
Just because someone hangs up doesn't prove that they are lying about working for Amazon. Plenty of employees at call centers hang up on customers every day. Maybe not good employees but still even the bad employees work there until they don't anymore.
Just happens to me, only with UA-cam activate on my new TV … I finally realized there was something fishy when they wanted my cc info for their one-time setup charge ??? When I told them to bill it to my UA-cam account that would auto pay them with their monthly invoice for the “premium” UA-cam feature they said they were the tech dept and needed my cc#, I told to get the info they needed from UA-cam, they hung up on me! Realizing, I just escaped a scam … but wait, they have my Amazon log on info, so a call to Amazon because they had changed my password! It took a while to resolve all the problems but It was before I called Amazon I saw this video that was exactly the same as I had just had, I realized they had my Amazon info.😅
It's sad to say that I've been through the same s*** and almost got me too, first of all they try to do the social security fraud thing that your social security number has been compromised and used in like Texas to buy a house or so and they have your bank account information ma'am you need to take all your money at the bank account and the sheriff's department is looking for you right now because your social security number has also been used to do other things and somehow drugs got involved they scared me so bad they told me I couldn't tell anybody and I had to go to the bank get all my money out before the people find out and put it on a voucher and I was crying all the way to the bank in the bank told me not to do it just to hang up and it was a scam. Haven't scammed a lot of times on UA-cam as well about buying off grid protective merchandise just in case someone tries to invade our country and kill us through EPT or something of cutting of our communications and internet boy oh boy and they get very crafty but which always get them caught is being from India and saying their name is Tom Jones and I'm like well you don't sound like a Tom Jones then they'll laugh and be like okay so man is your number this or that and I have the deputies on the phone and they're going to wait and they're not going to send the task force to come and get you if we can figure this out right now. It worked one time and they didn't get the money they have clothes but I hung up on them but since then they've tried several other times about Amazon they told me that someone ordered some Bluetooth headphones and then they owe Amazon $1,500 and it's under my name and I'm like why would anybody give somebody $1,500 for nothing then I hung up on them again y'all so be very careful only thing you got to realize if they sound like they from India hang up on their asses good luck y'all

Amazon do make it hard to do shit with their website or app it’s practically impossible to get in touch with support no wonder why scammers target Amazon because they don’t give a shit about their users but they do warn you not to give away codes.
Outside of Prime, you are not thier customer.. Only if your issue is with prime.. You use amazon, FB, YT basically for free, therefore youre not a customer.. I know you love free shipping etc but how much do u think it would cost to set a real Amazon call centre?? And if they did, youd be 1st to bitch about theb1$ increase in fees...
I got a text yesterday about something to do with my Amazon prime account. And the kicker is I don’t even have Prime so it’s gotta be something similar 🤷♂️ didn’t trust it so I just ignored it either way. This just reminded me of it
I was a victim of this scam method. The scammers got into my computer and attempted to draw money out of my checking and savings accounts while they were supposed to have been installing my Smart TV program to Amazon Prime. Thank GOD, they were not able to complete the transactions because I caught on to all the personal questions after about 10 min. of talking to them. I shut down my computer and took the battery out. I opened my second computer and there were emails from my bank asking me to confirm those transactions. I was able to close all the accounts they hacked and opened new ones also, I changed all my passwords and took my wifi box and router to my ISP and got new ones. Please share this UA-cam link with all your friends and family. It has been more than a week and I am still trying to get all my accounts straighten out.
Amazon needs to add more warning to their text messages and emails. It should read, do not give this code to anyone even if they claim to be from amazon.
idea: get like 50 people together and have them all call the same call center on repeat for hours so the center is full of the same 50 people wasting time so they can't actually scam anyone.

Your videos are very informative. So many scammers attempt to scam and catfish the elderly, which is despicable. When my cognitive abilities begin to slip, I hope my family locks my accounts.

Pro tip: Never click on the "Ad" links at the top of your Google search. Ever.

They all follow the same general patterns. I would say one good rule to go on, is that if you get any calls supposedly from a company - if you aren't 100% sure it's not a scam, even 0.1% unsure, tell the person on the phone you are going to hang up and call in yourself regarding the issue to verify you've contacted the right company. If it's your bank, get out their card and call the number on the back.

@rany0 can confirm. I was facing an issue with one of my apps, so I reached out to their customer support. A very nice Indian lady was handling my case. She was very apologetic that she couldn't help me cause the company did not have the service/feature I was looking for. I assured her it was not her fault, she was just the middleman getting stuck in the loop.

I wish them well: I wish they manage to find a real job as soon as possible. They know they're scamming people, they know that what they're doing is wrong. Tell them how to find honest work that pays enough, and I'm sure most scammers will be happy to take that opportunity.

Here's a tip to spot a scammer on a phone call! If the person has an Indian accent but has an English name, then they are scammers. I grew up in the UK in an Indian majority area and no one I knew had an English name. The closest was a guy named Adamwalla. They abbreviate their names like Nish, Suk or Sheets.
Not always true. Most of the US based call centers have people with Indian accents and American names. Best advice if it sounds off to to the website of the place sending the message and call customer service from there

Bullcrap. People who have difficult-to-pronounce names often use nicknames, because they're fed up with people mangling their actual name.
In England, that's just not the case these days. I know of people from other countries or of other heritage living, even born, here (including even from EU countries) who adopted British names, often similar to their own, because they were sick of their own being mispronounced due to spelling differences, and others who have Indian or Pakistani accents but very British names. Plus people with broad Yorkshire accents but Asian names. Some scammers will adopt other names, but not everyone with an Asian accent and a British name is a scammer, not by a long chalk.

The way this scam works is incredible, hopefully Amazon will see it and find a way to fix it. Maybe a way for people to login on the device itself instead of going to an exterior device.

Scammers are using that information as part of their scams because people have to either use the QR code, or for older people, go to a website because most don't know how to use a QR reader. If we got rid of having to go to a website in the first place, the scam would be unsuccessful, is what i'm saying

They go through all this effort of renting an office, setting up computers, IP phone system, hiring people, buying Google ads, ect. Why don't they just be a legit call center?! They go through all the trouble of setting it up and then run these illegal scams out of it. I don't understand. They could easily do outsourcing work for legit businesses. If you can train someone to run this scam then you can train them to do phone support for just about anything. I know because I spent the majority of my life working in call centers. It's not that hard.

No one calls a support line to just say hi and tell you how awesome you are. Every single phone call is a problem to be solved. Even the nicest, politest people you talk to just want a solution so they can get back to their lives. I worked for AOL, MSN, Gateway, ADP, and Capital One. I applied for Comcast but accepted the Cap1 job over it. Every one of them had high turnover. The only people who make careers of it get off the phones within 18 months to go into management or something behind the scenes. Add to that the stress of getting caught because your call center is illegal, I don't understand why they do it.

True, although sometimes they actually do take action. Just look at the latest Scambaiter video. They took down a scam operation while cooperating with Punjab police. They were raided and all the scambaiters were watching their CCTV and guiding the police 😄

One thing that may cause so many people to fall for this is that Amazon does in fact have lots of "premium" services that upgrade their basic services. Amazon Music is a prime example, no pun intended, and is probably one that most people are aware of.

In my experience with Amazon scammers, once they get into your account they'll order gift cards and steal the codes... in fact that happens 99% of the time it seams... not sure about the prime tv activation scammers, but I kinda think they would do that.... I deal with these jerks every day.

Ben - my question is related to Google. With all the AI technology the purport to have, why isn't the system immediately flagging these fake sites and ads? I would love to see you do a piece on that because no matter what laws are in place or education that is made available, if sending you to a scammer is as simple as clicking on top returns in Google, the problem will never go away.

@@davemarm Nothing, but Google won't take the money if they suspect click fraud from the same IP, unless you're running a botnet or have 10,000 people clicking the links you're not gonna effect them much. It costs a few pennies per click.

Old man in the Comcast store yesterday was being helped by the nice employee for 2 hours when I was there this weekend... I guess he had fallen for an "Amazon" scam and lost his Comcast email. Scammers took everything and were trying to re-route all of his bank sign-ins and such. Sad to see :( Luckily the old email was shut down and a new one created in store that was able to forward the majority of emails coming to the old one.

I have a friend of over 90 who is brilliant at dealing with scammers, and friends decades younger who have got scammed when they have been stressed and just not as attentive as usual. It absolutely can happen to anyone who has any digital footprint- and even some that do not, who just have a landline phone. People get scammed into going into their banks and taking out money and giving it to strangers. They are groomed slowly into doing it, even lying to their banks, because they are conned into thinking they are helping the cops catch a scammer, or told this is the only way to stop money being scammed from their account.
I want to thank you for giving new information that I had not heard before. I was about to get ready to close early but then heard a little bit and started to listen and finish till the end. This is a new UA-cam that I'll be sitting to family and encourage them to listen to the end because even my kids who feel that they're very up on everything are now in their 40s and they are not. It's so easy to remember when you put in your first hard disk instead of your using your TRS tape recorder that eventually you get too old to keep up on everything. Lol. So I just want to say thank you I'm sure it will save me money because my desire to read everything and fool with these people on the phone has gotten less as I'm in my seventies. So just keep up the good work and I'll keep listening and seeing what's happening. ❤️

It is so funny because ever since I started watching your videos, I play with the scammers myself. When I get A phone call from Social Security saying that my number has been compromised or a Amazon call I start playing with them. I tried to waste their time at one point I got cussed at because I messed up on giving them information. But it is so funny when they call me and I keep them on the phone for at least 10 to 20 minutes just to waste their time I have not received any more phone calls to my home or my cell phone so I guess they must’ve gave up on scamming me I’ve been kind of bored lol

Google is a multi-billion dollar corporation. They have trillions of websites stretched across 900,000 servers. Scam sites would be impossible to police. Plus websites aren't just "put" on Google, they need to be registered, and domain registrar companies like namecheap (a popular one for scammers) do that. Realistically the best way to stop these sites would be to nip them in the bud - if registrars did more to vet websites, they'd never be there to scam people in the first place

We helped my mother-in-law set up her UA-cam account for watching on her TV. The prompt it gave us was to open the Google app, not visit any particular website. We did have to help her get the app open, but that seems a more secure method than telling people to go to a specific url (assuming they understand the instructions in the first place).

Really, good informative video. As someone who has had an Amazon account for many years, I can easily see how people can be scammed this way. Amazon will always prompt you to sign into your account any time you make a new purchase or add a new service (email address or phone number associated with your account plus your password). And if you re-set your Amazon password for any reason, you will get that one-time code that only you need access to: Amazon will not send you that code and then ask you to provide that code over the phone to their so-called "representative."
Honestly this is one of the more well thought out and believable scams I have seen I could totally see a bunch of old people or maybe just people who live under rocks falling for it wow

Best thing to do is NEVER leave a payment card tied to your Amazon account. That way, even if a scammer gains access to it, they cannot order anything. You wouldn't leave your credit card with a shop assistant in real life (in case you wanted to come back & shop there again), so DON'T do it online either!
When I log into Amazon from a different ISP and order anything they make me enter the code on the back. Also, I wouldn’t be giving them the 2FA code for anything.
Yep, I was surprised the scammers went for the "send money over paypal to blah blah blah your 4k" BS. They could just activate the TV for "free", then instantly use their access to the account order a shit ton of gift vouchers or resellable goods (Amazon operate in India, so dead easy). Frustrating how people fall for these scams, and also frustrating to see how sloppy the scammers themselves are. "Get of the way, amateur! I'll show you how to run a grift!"

@Christopher Wiggins you can remove your card from Amazon so it's not linked to your account. Of course you have to enter it every time you buy something and remove it again. A small inconvenience to not let someone have access to your card.

In the past when I got a scammer call. I would get angry and yell at them. Telling them this is a scam and they should be ashamed of themselves. But afterwords I would still be angry. So I changed how I responded.
In their culture, it is not polite to jump right into the business at hand.
So when I got their call. I would say “Hello, how are you?” “And is your family are they all well?” “Your parents are they well?” We would have this conversation about my scammer’s family. The scammer would be a bit confused. Eventually I would sweetly say we both know this is a scam and I hope they get a better job soon. Goodbye.”
With that approach I was not angry after the call. Only one time the scammer called me back and demanded I find him the better job. I politely told him I didn’t live in his country so I could not help him get a job.
When I was done with these calls I was not angry, my blood pressure was not up. It was just sadly funny.
When I can be bothered, I play a bit. I have even got one of them to put the phone down on me after a long call. Sometimes I hear them out a bit and then finish the call with a curse, as in, a quiet and creepy witch-type curse on them for lying.

Thank you for making these videos. I was scammed when i was 13 years old with a so called virus on my new desktop. As a 13 year old that needed to get homework done i asked my mom to pay for the virus pfotection it had on the screen and call a number. It was unsuspecting. I'm 30 now, and I still think about that day I wasted my single moms hard earned money, she wanted me to excell in school so she didn't mind paying it. Thank you for fighting this hard time of goid versus evil.

On a "cord cutting" forum, about twice a year we get someone announcing that Roku is no longer free. Yes, to keep our Roku devices running, we'll need to start paying Roku a monthly fee. Invariably after a few questions we figure out that a scammer called them, they gave the scammer their Roku password (!), then the scammer shut the device down saying Roku requires a monthly fee now. The annoying thing is most of the time we can't convince them that they have been scammed!!! They always say something like, "You'll find out I'm right! real soon" or something like it and they never come back.
My inlaws fell for this scam literally last week, got taken for about 30k, and didn't tell anyone until a 4 days later. As a tech professional who has prevented this from happening to my own parents (they fell for it too but called me right away because "something didn't feel right", and was able to help them cancel the transaction before it went through and cleaned up their laptop), this particular one makes me sick.

Ironically, the people savvy enough to use an ad blocker are the same people who know not to click the ad in the first place. Also, I feel like the vast majority of people will use a mobile device for activation when setting up prime on their tv. I block ads on my laptop but I'm not aware of Adblock on iOS for example

It's so painful hearing these victims. I have my elderly parents and my elderly uncle that I'm constantly updating them with scam information and NOT to talk to anyone except me about their cellphones, their smart tvs, and their computers. I had to talk my uncle out of buying a computer because I was terrified that he wouldn't contact me to help because he'd think he was bothering me and he's super gullible. It's quite sad really. I worry constantly about them and then I worry about me and my husband who are childless and we won't have someone looking out for our safety when we're in our seventies unless Alexa gets a new feature to protect customers.
I was alerted about an iphone that was charged to my Amazon account . I had to call a private number but I hung up on the man because I couldnt hear or understand him. Then I called Amazon real number and talked to there customer service and asked them about what I was told I didnt know for sure that it was a scam I'm learning more. Thanks for these videos

My elderly Mum has now got very good at dealing with scammers, but they come out with new ones all the time. Basically, though, she is now hard wired never to give anyone information, no matter who they are; she just says 'my (son/son-in-law) deals with all that' and puts the phone down. And she has stopped being polite, or even answering with a 'yes'. She was a bit shocked, though, when I was there and asked for the phone when one of the 'this is Windows' lot rang up and I just told him to FO..... which is what I say at home.

Most of the equipment manufacturers have free tech support services available for repair technicians Over the last few years, scammers have been posting fake posts posing as various manufacturers. I didn’t work on Sanyo AC equipment much and needed guidance on one of their units. Found a number on a Google search and called it. A person with an American name and heavy Indian accent answered. She said that I would receive a $500 gift card if I subscribed to “Sanyo Tech Support Services” and they would not help me unless I subscribed. I knew right away that this was a scam. The HVAC equipment market is very competitive

Had a guy at work that got caught up in the same mess. He paid, they wanted more money and it became a vicious cycle. He had enough and went to the authorities,he would have went earlier, but he was embarrassed and scared. The amount of relief he felt with the agent he worked with and assured him that he didn’t do anything wrong or illegal (just be more careful in the future). If you are in this situation just understand there is help and light at the end of the ordeal. If you know someone going through it, be supportive and understanding. This is sickening there are people that pray on peoples vulnerabilities. I hope this helps and my heart goes out to the family.
Fun fact. My son works for Amazon as a programmer. I was amazed at all the perks he got. I asked him what it would take for him to get fired. He allowed that he was in demand and that were he inclined to abuse his perks it would still be hard to get fired. However, he did say that if he ever hung up on a customer it would probably get him fired. The fact that the gal hung up shows she did not work for Amazon.
Hes not programming hes lying to you. You wouldn't be on the phone with amazon customers if you were writing backend code for amazon.
Just because someone hangs up doesn't prove that they are lying about working for Amazon. Plenty of employees at call centers hang up on customers every day. Maybe not good employees but still even the bad employees work there until they don't anymore.

Just happens to me, only with UA-cam activate on my new TV … I finally realized there was something fishy when they wanted my cc info for their one-time setup charge ??? When I told them to bill it to my UA-cam account that would auto pay them with their monthly invoice for the “premium” UA-cam feature they said they were the tech dept and needed my cc#, I told to get the info they needed from UA-cam, they hung up on me!
Realizing, I just escaped a scam … but wait, they have my Amazon log on info, so a call to Amazon because they had changed my password! It took a while to resolve all the problems but It was before I called Amazon I saw this video that was exactly the same as I had just had, I realized they had my Amazon info.😅

It's sad to say that I've been through the same s*** and almost got me too, first of all they try to do the social security fraud thing that your social security number has been compromised and used in like Texas to buy a house or so and they have your bank account information ma'am you need to take all your money at the bank account and the sheriff's department is looking for you right now because your social security number has also been used to do other things and somehow drugs got involved they scared me so bad they told me I couldn't tell anybody and I had to go to the bank get all my money out before the people find out and put it on a voucher and I was crying all the way to the bank in the bank told me not to do it just to hang up and it was a scam. Haven't scammed a lot of times on UA-cam as well about buying off grid protective merchandise just in case someone tries to invade our country and kill us through EPT or something of cutting of our communications and internet boy oh boy and they get very crafty but which always get them caught is being from India and saying their name is Tom Jones and I'm like well you don't sound like a Tom Jones then they'll laugh and be like okay so man is your number this or that and I have the deputies on the phone and they're going to wait and they're not going to send the task force to come and get you if we can figure this out right now. It worked one time and they didn't get the money they have clothes but I hung up on them but since then they've tried several other times about Amazon they told me that someone ordered some Bluetooth headphones and then they owe Amazon $1,500 and it's under my name and I'm like why would anybody give somebody $1,500 for nothing then I hung up on them again y'all so be very careful only thing you got to realize if they sound like they from India hang up on their asses good luck y'all
Honestly, falling for this scam is kinda natural selection. It literally tells u not to share the code and do people just not pay any attention to domain names.

Amazon do make it hard to do shit with their website or app it’s practically impossible to get in touch with support no wonder why scammers target Amazon because they don’t give a shit about their users but they do warn you not to give away codes.
Outside of Prime, you are not thier customer.. Only if your issue is with prime.. You use amazon, FB, YT basically for free, therefore youre not a customer.. I know you love free shipping etc but how much do u think it would cost to set a real Amazon call centre?? And if they did, youd be 1st to bitch about theb1$ increase in fees...
I got a text yesterday about something to do with my Amazon prime account. And the kicker is I don’t even have Prime so it’s gotta be something similar 🤷♂️ didn’t trust it so I just ignored it either way. This just reminded me of it
I was a victim of this scam method. The scammers got into my computer and attempted to draw money out of my checking and savings accounts while they were supposed to have been installing my Smart TV program to Amazon Prime. Thank GOD, they were not able to complete the transactions because I caught on to all the personal questions after about 10 min. of talking to them. I shut down my computer and took the battery out. I opened my second computer and there were emails from my bank asking me to confirm those transactions. I was able to close all the accounts they hacked and opened new ones also, I changed all my passwords and took my wifi box and router to my ISP and got new ones. Please share this UA-cam link with all your friends and family. It has been more than a week and I am still trying to get all my accounts straighten out.

idea: get like 50 people together and have them all call the same call center on repeat for hours so the center is full of the same 50 people wasting time so they can't actually scam anyone.
