    I like the fact that you added songs from the 50’s too because don’t forget that’s when most vn vets grew up and listened to what was “modern” music like the rest of us.

    I got sick of hearing fortunate son in every Vietnam War video so I also made a playlist of vietnam era music. I've been adding songs to it for over a 1 years now. Like yous said it's a good song, but there's way more good music that was around.

    Thank you sooooooo much for that playlist! I love Vietnam era music only and I was trying to make my own playlist but it was fairly small and I had trouble finding more songs so I found it constantly repeating. But your playlist has such a huge variety of amazing songs it never feels like its repeating and I love every second of it

    I want to say thank you for this. As someone who recently has been trying to find the right music to immerse myself in, it gets to be a tad frustrating when UA-cam recommends:
    House of the Rising Sun, Fortunate Son, Run Through the Jungle, Sympathy for the Devil, Hello Vietnam, We gotta get out of this place, Paint it Black, California Dreamin' (although admittedly, I love this song probably more than I should), and then begin at House of the Rising Sun
    All are great songs, but I know there are wayyyyyy more that were played during the conflict than just those handful. So again, thank you.
    And thank you for the video series. I am learning a lot, and I cannot stop watching these videos!

      A interesting real-life Nam' related drug story is that of Frank Lucus.
      He used family connection stationed overseas to secure Heroin shipments to New York City in 67 or 68.
      This correlates to a time when America sees the second largest drug epidemic since opium & he subsequently is taken down by agents from Nixon's newly formed Drug Enforcement Agency (1970)

    I've actually wondered where this stereotype comes from. I've watched a bunch of different 'Nam movies, and the only one I can think of that uses Fortunate Son is Forrest Gump, and that would be a weird choice to set the precedent because the scene in which it is played is extremely short. Movies and TV that parody Vietnam War films have a scene where the song is played, but I can't tell if they're parodying Gump or just playing it because it was a popular counterculture song of the time.

    I’m just going to throw this out there. There was a ton of great music besides rock that was popular in the 60s. You had some of the greatest country music ever made like Patsy Cline, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, George Jones, and Kitty Wells. Then there was Sinatra, Dean Martin, and the Rat Pack. And then there was great Jazz by the likes of Coltrane. There was way more than The Stones, The Beatles, and CCR.

    • @MikeB128
      @MikeB128  5 років тому +1

      I'm just going to throw this out there: You didn't check out my playlist. I was only talking about one genre, which Fortunate Son was classified as. There were more Genres than that too, but if we're talking about Top 40 sorts of songs, Rock takes the cake in the late 1960s.
