Souplantation hands down was the best on the list. When I worked there in highschool I could eat there as an employee for only 2 dollars even with a drink.
Worked in the kitchens at our local Golden Corral, Shoney's, and Ryan's in my youth. Wife worked at CiCi's. Of the four, Golden Corral had the least amount of pre-processed food and was the cleanest/best maintained. You actually learned recipes for making all the buffet items. I liked when they finally went with their open kitchen concept. You can view most of the food prep and kitchen from the dining area if you so choose. (I guess CiCi's has that too, lol) The Ryan's I worked at was almost 100's pre-processed frozen food. Almost everything came off a truck frozen. Shoney's was for breakfast or to order off the grill. Their lunch/dinner buffet was an add-on to an entree at best unless it was seafood night. Breakfast was good though, at least until the local Golden Corral started their breakfast buffet up. Of the four restaraunts, only one is still open twenty years later. It's the Golden Corral. And I still eat there on occasion.
Our golden corral is awesome! Great food and its clean. The employees are really nice too. Maybe your just in a crappy area?? There are towns around here we dont go to based on the folks who work there. Some towns have zero work ethic and dont care about any part of their jobs. Sad but true.
I live in historical Punta Gorda, Florida, the second oldest city in Florida. The Golden Corral here is really awful to say the least! Either the food is over-cooked or under-cooked and over priced! If you are visiting Punta Gorda, Florida, I would highly suggest that you save your money and do not consider this inferior eatery.
Being somewhat of a “foodie” I was highly impressed with Golden Coral! I’ve only eaten there once but still crave it years later. Unfortunately, the closest GC near me is an hours drive away 😔
Jonathan Davimes I ate at Golden Corral once and for being what it is, I was impressed. It definitely wasn’t Chinois, Spago, Strand House or Arthur J. Again, for what GC is, I enjoyed it…
At least in Texas, Cici’s had this really cool play area with air hockey, and I loved going there for their buffalo chicken pizza, none of which I’d ever seen at golden corral
It was my favorite breakfast buffet as a kid. My family would go before church on Sundays and I would put away plates and plates of bacon. 😂 Unfortunately, they're a little harder to find these days. Many of their locations have closed down.
@@aliciamack9323 harlem is... And will always be better than brooklyn. Everyone knows this. Manhattan forever. Amen. Your little jay z is from brooklyn and he is an occultist.
Tuxedo cici’s the worst in any aspect of dining. Pizza, really ! I’m from ny and the closest they get to pizza is a cardboard box with garbage splatter in a dumpster.
There's this local pizza buffet called Gatti-Land(now known as Gatti-Town) that also doubles as an arcade. I remember the pizzas there being good and their salads being alright. I fondly remember them serving chocolate pizzas around night they were so good
Two of my favorite chains here in Texas are Dimassi's, which is Middle Eastern food, about $15 for lunch, and Chama Gaucha, which is a Brazilian steakhouse with a dozen high quality grilled meats, about $40 for lunch.
Jon Velas well. It’s a high end steakhouse. Premium quality food and they have a number of wines to choose from. You get what you pay for. High quality ain’t cheap 🤷🏻♂️
Best deal you'll ever find on a breakfast buffet....IF.....you are on a budget. Shoney's is the gold standard for budget breakfast buffets. Golden Corrals is not bad. Both are a very good deal......if you care about price.
You're talking about the one near Port Huron, Michigan, haven't been able to get back there, but used to go every time I worked in the Port Huron area.
Golden corral was absolutely filthy the past few times I've been and they got rid of the honey butter rolls. Pizza ranch is the best place on this list.
There is operational messy.....and there is unsanitary. PEOPLE are PIGS and will trash ANY buffet line...anywhere in ten minutes when full. I consider a "filthy" place one that doesn't get spotlessly cleaned several times daily. HUGE difference between the "people mess" and being "unsanitary".
Cicis pizza is slept on. I go with my co worker on lunch at least once a week. For 8 dollars I get a drink and a buffet of any pizza you can imagine, a salad bar, and pasta bar. One of my favorites for sure.
Ever since corona Golden Corral sucks. After they reopened it just ain’t been the same. I do miss shoneys a lot. I used to love getting their biscuits and grits with sausage gravy on them with their breakfast potatoes. After the 2000s they started breaking bad which was so sad
My area had a Homestyle Buffet that was always packed. People came to work one day and it had been boarded up during the night, no warning to anyone, and they they refused to give refunds to anyone that had bought gift cards.
@@richardbidinger2577 happen to me. I worked at the Ryan's. Came in at noon sunday for my shift only to see trucks loading up everything. Manager was there telling us all that we shut down and even they didn't know till an hour before.
My worst buffets are these; Golden Corral Wyatt's Cafeteria (this location in my town closed down literally overnight without prior warning to the restaurant staff) back in early 1993. Chinese Buffet- again like the rest this closed down pretty much after having been in business for only 3 months due to multiple health code violations and the fact that employees were chopping vegetables on the floor in the kitchen area and the restaurant itself wasn't clean at all. KFC had a buffet in a town where I used to live out of state years ago. The buffet was standard re-heated leftovers and the employees frowned on people going thru a second time. It was quickly taken out and the location went under in 2012. The best buffets I ever dined at in the 80's were Western Sizzlin and Bonanza, both of which are long since defunct.
Old Country Buffet moved out a couple years ago in 2015, and their next closest location I liked closed just a month ago. I liked them years ago but I guess their issues were too much. Luckily a Golden Corral opened nearby. However, I luckily live in Southeast Pennsylvania, home of Shady Maple, the biggest buffet in the country... If you havent been to Shady Maple Smorgasbord in New Holland, get there. It's amazing.
This could be more dependant on local management. The last time I was at Golden Corral, I went to the meat station and asked for rare. The non english speaking cook dropped a tiny piece of charcoal on my plate then stood there smiling at me. The way back to my table was blocked by a gang of kids crawling all over the desert table under the sneeze shield. Of course the parents all thought it was cute.
How many restaurants that you like to go to.....have a value concept that encourages poor and illiterate people.....and puts YOUR potential food within reach of poorly behaved children......and had all the food ready to eat while you are parking your car? Now....what could go wrong with that? The problem is not with management.....the problem is with the behavior of the people in your town. The concept works GREAT some places......total disaster in other places. Rather than single out a very good "concept" for a negative review.....why not a short diatribe about modern parenting. You hinted at it....but that really is the problem, don't you think?
@@robertsimpson5136 I used to go to the Golden Corral in Marysville, Washington. Always a good experience there. A lot of it depends on the people in the community.
I miss the old school buffets that were actually good! Through the 90's they were everywhere! Ryan's, Shoney's, Duffy's, Pancho's, Pizza Hutt, Pizza Inn.....etc. The food was on a completely other level!
This comment and opinion is two years on, and the Golden Corral in Conway, Arkansas is not fit to treat a dog. Before covid it was fair but a bit pricey considering the food offers. Post covid, I will never eat there again.
When I was in Tokyo I used to splurge on Sizzler every once in a while because they had piles of pineapple slices at the salad bar. Pineapple used to be hideously expensive in Japan and I always got my money's worth....
Dude the Hometown buffet one hits me right in the feels. I remember a really good one when I was a kid. I went to one now on that breakfast to lunch time and I can't complain about the experience but yeah I really hope they do something to stay in the game.
it was the only american style buffet where i lived, they didn't replace it with anything and is now abandoned. We only have Asian buffets now, which are good but its not always the buffet food wanted.
Omg I was so excited to see Huhot on here! My grandparents and most of my family lives in Appleton WI and they have a Huhot there and I tried it my first time when I was there about a year ago and it was AMAZING. I would pay so much money per visit if they opened up some places in Maryland. They also had a pizza ranch there so my family and I tried that as well. It should be higher on the list. I was kinda shocked how good the pizza was there! It was awesome! Why does Wisconsin get all the great places?
Last time I had Golden Corral outside of the south, I didn't know what end to put over the toilet... Breakfast on the weekends is really good. Love the breakfast.
You probably BINGED on processed crap and sweets.....THAT is what wrecked your gut for few days. Had you stuck to meat, bread, salad and vegetables....none of that would have happened.
@@robertsimpson5136 Nope. I ate meat, veggies and a little fruit. As far as my "BINGE", went I had 1 plate and a half. I would hardly call that a binge, but whatever. I find it funny you have no idea what I ate yet YOU are going to TRY and SPECULATE what I ATE. Trust me, I know Golden Corral up in my more northern state doesn't have the best food. I could eat Golden Corral in the south no problem, but not here.
My hubby and 3 daughters have traveled all over USA on family trips since the beginning of our marriage till today, as 2 daughters are grownups and our baby is now in high school, we sometimes would theme our dinner stops, and one trip between Indiana and Florida we stopped at 4 golden corrals, one location in either Tennessee or Georgia, was THE BEST EVER, it had so many good options for meat, and i tasted each one, or tried too, lol 14 different kinds, and it had good southern sides. It was very clean, huge, well managed and we had so many good foods there, it was like A 5 star, compared to at best a 1.5 to 2 stars at all the others, its been a good 10 years since that trip but i never forget how wonderful it was,
They are all good to me all the one known restaurant chains in the area I live around the state of North Carolina. They need to bring back Shoney's and Ci Ci's and Popeye's and a few more that left like Jack and The Box!
lol me too, never been to Shoney's dinner buffet but I always enjoyed their breakfast buffet. But man there is no shortage of buffets here, I mean we got most of the standards but we also have a lot of local family owned buffets, love those kinda places.
There hasn't been a Souper Salad in my town in 20+ years, but back when there was, it was awesome! They had the best fresh baked bread & rolls, and their Sausage & Rice soup, Beef Stew, and Gumbo were all excellent. Maybe I just got lucky with the location I went to, but I do miss it!
They were the Leader in that concept in some parts of the country. Unlike then....EVERY restaurant chain now has a variety of BIG SALADS that are reasonably well done at about the same price point of Souper Salad's buffet concept. Salad Eaters are not Gluttens. Bisquit and Gravy Eaters are Gluttens. Jason't Deli is sort of an evolution of the Super Salad thing, bringing in many items that appeal to more people.
I remember when the first Golden Corral open in Minnesota. The line was 2 block long. I finally tried it 3 months after. I can say it put all of the Old Country Buffet to shame.
Yuck are you kidding? Ponderosa steaks are a joke...both size and quality. Their buffet is mainly frozen food heated up. I know someone who worked there. Mostly overly salty sodium overload frozen heated up food. A few decent things like their chili and chicken noodle soup.
Thanks to Golden corral a lot of elderly people get to eat a good meal and they help a lot of military so on that note thanks golden corral keeping your practice low and helping the elderly people in the community👍
I went to a place in Harrisonburg, VA called the Woodgrill Buffet. Excellent all you can eat food. I hope that's the right name. It has been a few years since I been there.
Keep a eye on the cat and dog population around town.I at some small ribs before and they was not from a cow or goat.Tured out to be dog ribs from a animal clinic across the street.
Gerald Nordahl I’m sure a place that served dog ribs would shut down. Anyway there’s no animal clinics, the restaurant is in a shopping plaza so I think it will be fine .
If you want to go to the Sizzler, in Mesa Az, all the food is WELL DONE! Place burned down, about 6 weeks ago. Golden Corral, (Golden Hog trough) has breakfast here, from 7 AM to 10:30 AM. If you get in at about 10:00, or a bit earlier, the menu switches from breakfast to lunch, and you don't have to pay again. (Breakfast comes with free drinks and refills, after that, you have to pay. But, if you have an empty glass, refills are STILL free.) steve
At each of this places someone goes to bathroom, doesn't wash their hands and then goes out and touches the serving spoons, I've seen it happen and that's the reason why I haven't been to a buffet in at least 20 years.
The last time I was at Golden Corral, the carpet was so filthy it was sticky, most of the salad dressings were empty, the ice cream machine never stopped beeping, and there was a full diaper in the parking lot. 🤮
Mona S. Well it’s because it’s in a different area when I went there it was sweet!! The quality of the food was good it wasn’t dirty it was like it got cleaned a lot of times even when I went to the restroom it was clean there was no crap or piss on the floor it was nice and smooth and the parking lot didn’t have anything wrong so you must be high
I have a GC where I am in Michigan that used to be a Old Country,GC took over, better food, better service, little pricey, but I like the variety the GC has. In fact the best food I like here is the meatloaf and the Spanish/Mexican rice, just got the right spice to it.
I’m a Californian🤙🏽 I’ve been to Golden corral “once”. on the beach now, I gather the kids around and tell tales, of the Golden Corral. around the bonfire!
Shakey's Pizza were pizza restaurants mostly, with some of their menu all you can eat. The last time I was in a Shakey's was in the early '80's after a high school football game. I was in the marching band, and the band director took us all out to Shakey's for pizza.

The Western Sizzlin in Hagerstown, Maryland is wonderful. My family used to love Western Sizzlin back in the day, but all the ones near where I live closed.
Here in the Catskills in NY, there was one Golden Corral, 35 miles away in Middletown. It opened just before the Pandemic and never recovered. The quality of their steaks deteriorated, there's no carving station and even sauteed mushrooms disappeared. Price went up, quality went down and they closed for renovations over a year ago, never reopened. They were the only Buffet Restaurant anywhere in a 50+ mile radius near all the major stores. I keep asking about the Restaurant reopening but nobody responds.
As someone from Montana, I’m really glad they included HuHot! I know the family that started it personally(amazing people!) and I hope that they start opening more nationwide! Or at least in Houston since I moved here. #MontanaRestaurants
My dad owned two of The Golden Corral steak houses one in Orlando Florida and one in Winter Garden Florida. I love Golden Corral . At dinner time nobody wanted to eat the same thing so going to Golden Corral was easier to satisfy each person at least one day a week. I think the prices are a little high then what they should be. I remember that all you can eat was $9.99 at the Golden Corral . It has gotten expensive for an average family of four.
I must admit, Golden Corral is pretty good. Food is good but restaurant smells funny. I recommend you go about an hour before lunch. You get to eat breakfast and lunch for the price of one.👍👍👍

Thinking of ordering Chinese take out? Think again. I drove taxi in Toronto on Friday and Saturday nights while attending college. Received a radio call to pick up at take out order at a Chinese restaurant on Danforth Avenue. While waiting at the side kitchen door for the order, I saw two kitchen workers using a pail, situated right beside a crate of vegetable, as a urinal. Lot's of "splashing" onto the crate of vegetables. When done, they just "gave it a couple of shakes," zipped up and went back to cooking without hand washing. I left without the order and contacted my dispatcher who called the customer. I found out the following week that she was grateful that I did not get the order. True story.
The Golden Corral on central ave in Colonie NY , went there once for breakfast , waffle and plates of bacon ❤️ ⚡️, when it 1st opened and it was good , kept failing county inspections after they were opened for years , finally they were closed down in the middle of the day and forced to throw everything away , clean the place top to bottom, I still won’t temp fate and return although the parking lot does seem pretty full most nights
I gotten sick after eating there. I was once in the restroom stall when my mom ringed my phone. I swear a heard a woman come in and used the restroom and left without washing her hands after that I was sick even more.
The Yeast Rolls are awesome and are there to fill you up and to keep you away from taking higher food-cost items. But hey.....you can take all you want of everything in sight if you want.
Sadly the Old Country Buffet in Westland, Michigan ceased operations some years ago. Besides decent food and attentive staff, dear would come up to windows and feed. And this was in downtown.
I really like Arthur's back in the 80s. We had on in our local Mall, and it was great. Turkey or Roast Beef hot plate with mass and vegetables was my favorite.
I found one over the summer. Made a trip there to eat. I was disappointed. The salad bar was nothing like it used to be and they didn't even serve bread with your meal.

If you consider yourself a "foodie", you would never even consider frequenting a fast food buffet.
Jonathan Davimes I ate at Golden Corral once and for being what it is, I was impressed. It definitely wasn’t Chinois, Spago, Strand House or Arthur J. Again, for what GC is, I enjoyed it…
U should do a roadtrip
I enjoy their breakfast
I’d go to Cici’s over Golden Coral
00⁹
Cici's all went out here in Columbus Ohio.
Both make lots of money serving millions of people....without you.
Lmao
At least in Texas, Cici’s had this really cool play area with air hockey, and I loved going there for their buffalo chicken pizza, none of which I’d ever seen at golden corral
Golden Corral used to be good but they suck now days. The food quaility has went way down and price up.No more for me.
This whole time i thought Shoneys was a made up resturaunt for Rick and Morty. I had no idea it existed
We have it in the mall an its very good
It was my favorite breakfast buffet as a kid. My family would go before church on Sundays and I would put away plates and plates of bacon. 😂
Unfortunately, they're a little harder to find these days. Many of their locations have closed down.
No wonder i havent seen them, they closed their California locations back in the 90s, i wanted to try it but oh well
SouthCalifas619 I thought the exact same thing 😂💀
I first heard about it on King of the Hill
Back in the day Sizzlers was a good choice, now they are very hard to find...
@Steve Guard LOL,I heard there are some in Milwaukee..

I grew up on sizzlers in Brooklyn ny

Hey, I happen to like Cici's.
And Shoney's.
And Pizza Hut.
And Golden Corral.
How all you can eat restaurants make money
I'll eat anything that doesn't eat me first. Except Brussel sprouts!
The Mac and cheese pizza is legit the only reason I eat at cicis as I am a Mac and cheese addict
Tuxedo cici’s the worst in any aspect of dining. Pizza, really ! I’m from ny and the closest they get to pizza is a cardboard box with garbage splatter in a dumpster.
Cici's is right up there with Little Caesar's. Yuck.
Whoo 40 and 15😱
$40 for lunch is a bit steep.
Stfu mate u sound dumb spending $40 on lunch
Chama Gaucha is legit!
Jon Velas well. It’s a high end steakhouse. Premium quality food and they have a number of wines to choose from. You get what you pay for. High quality ain’t cheap 🤷🏻♂️
I really like Golden Corral ……. The one in Fort Gratiot Michigan has always been pretty good …….. breakfast menu is a real bargain on a Sunday
Best deal you'll ever find on a breakfast buffet....IF.....you are on a budget. Shoney's is the gold standard for budget breakfast buffets. Golden Corrals is not bad. Both are a very good deal......if you care about price.
Michigan gang!!!!
You're talking about the one near Port Huron, Michigan, haven't been able to get back there, but used to go every time I worked in the Port Huron area.
Yes, I Like Golden Corral...,we here in Ohio, Dont hae many of the others..
We used to have Hometown Buffet but they all closed
I miss Souplantation, they were amazing. It’s so sad that they were unable to reopen after the 2020 lockdowns.
I have not been in Wilmington Ohio in years, but they had an excellent Golden Corral there that was very reasonable. I went there several times a week
To get the feeling this is a compensated recommendation. Contradictory on a matter of in a few videos
They don't have to be logical, they just need to go VIRAL for that AdSense money.
I suppose it may vary by location, but I took a friend to one for Christmas and the experience was very nice.
The Sizzler in Murrieta, California is 5 Star every time you go. I know the owner and she works hard to keep it that way.
I miss Ryan's Buffet in my arena. Best fried chicken I ever had.
@@lightdragoon88 now that is really bad. LOL
Ryans was really great in their hay-day.
@floyd rothacre oh god...those honey buns too.
All “Sweet Tomatoes“ are closed and won’t reopen.
My worst buffets are these;
Golden Corral
Wyatt's Cafeteria (this location in my town closed down literally overnight without prior warning to the restaurant staff) back in early 1993.
Actually there are a few Bonanza's/Ponderosa's around the eastern US.
You can ask to have any kind of pizza made during the buffet at Pizza Hut .
You can ask, but. . .
I miss the old school buffets that were actually good! Through the 90's they were everywhere! Ryan's, Shoney's, Duffy's, Pancho's, Pizza Hutt, Pizza Inn.....etc. The food was on a completely other level!
I miss Pizza Inn and Panchos was pretty good too.
@@jackb348 yeah I loved pizza inn, do you remember or ever eaten at ponderosa, bonanza

Glad to see Golden Corral in 1st place !!! That is the only buffet I have eaten at in years !!!!

For real I used to go there so often as a kid and now they are all closing down
Hometown Buffet excellent 👌
Same, I remember going there, sadly they closed it down and replaced it with Golden Corral
it was the only american style buffet where i lived, they didn't replace it with anything and is now abandoned.
Have you seen us? Maybe its not such a good thing.
All I want is an all day breakfast buffet 😭
@Oh No - I, too, want all-day breakfast buffet. And I would love to be in Vegas right now.
It was very clean, huge, well managed and we had so many good foods there, it was like A 5 star, compared to at best a 1.5 to 2 stars at all the others, its been a good 10 years since that trip but i never forget how wonderful it was,
A new GC opened here a few years ago and was fantastic. They are slipping fast now. Their fried chicken is still my favorite anywhere.
Shoney's breakfast buffet is wonderful! Love Sweet Tomatoes...was sorry our local ones closed for good during Covid.
They are all good to me all the one known restaurant chains in the area I live around the state of North Carolina. They need to bring back Shoney's and Ci Ci's and Popeye's and a few more that left like Jack and The Box!
Shoney's makes me immediately think of Scott Steiner
lol me too, never been to Shoney's dinner buffet but I always enjoyed their breakfast buffet. But man there is no shortage of buffets here, I mean we got most of the standards but we also have a lot of local family owned buffets, love those kinda places.

Either way, Shoney's has a great breakfast buffet. My second thought was Rick and Morty.

@@robertsimpson5136 Sweet Tomato is still outstanding...
I remember when the first Golden Corral open in Minnesota. The line was 2 block long. I finally tried it 3 months after. I can say it put all of the Old Country Buffet to shame.
Ponderosa is the best POINT BLANK PERIOD

Bonanza!!
I miss Ponderosa
Yuck are you kidding? Ponderosa steaks are a joke...both size and quality. Their buffet is mainly frozen food heated up. I know someone who worked there. Mostly overly salty sodium overload frozen heated up food. A few decent things like their chili and chicken noodle soup.
Shoney's breakfast buffet is wonderful!

I liked Pizza Hut when you could buy a lunchtime pizza and have a salad buffet. It was such a good deal that I think that's why they stopped it.
The hometown buffet I used to go to closed down and they’re putting a Korean bbq in it’s place .
Keep a eye on the cat and dog population around town.I at some small ribs before and they was not from a cow or goat.Tured out to be dog ribs from a animal clinic across the street.

True story.
