  • Progesterone is one of the two most important reproductive hormones in a female body, so having low levels isn't good news at all. In this video, I explain the roles that progesterone plays in the body, what symptoms to look out for if you suspect low progesterone, how to test for it, and natural remedies that will increase progesterone gradually.

    Things I mentioned in the video:
    ♥ Vitex (or Chasteberry): iherb.co/uQ7Jb6jJ
    ♥ Maca root: loose powder (iherb.co/4W3AT4eD) or capsules (iherb.co/jLPr1RQK)
    ♥ Vitamin B6 (P-5-P): es.iherb.com/pr/Country-Life-...
    ♥ My favourite magnesium at the moment: iherb.co/6o7sr5ss
    ♥ For copper, either this chelated copper (iherb.co/A12enn2b) or liquid chlorophyll (iherb.co/hzrFuoti) are good sources. Also this raw food-based multivitamin (es.iherb.com/pr/Garden-of-Lif...) has a good amount of copper and great ingredients.
    ♥ A good zinc supplement: iherb.co/EHhQRzX5
    ♥ Raw B vitamins: iherb.co/siJFr1jz
    ♥ I didn't mention it in the video, but natural progesterone cream is awesome as well and this one is the best value for money, plus great ingredients: iherb.co/4NugF8sQ

      I started using progesterone cream 2 months ago (at night) and I'm finally sleeping through the night now. I went through horrible perimenopausal symptoms and am now menopausal (I was in my 40s, so kind of young). I am very thin, so I don't have much fat to continue to make estrogen either. I read What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause ( he also wrote another book with same name but about Pre-menopause). I'm also taking magnesium, B6, and Vitamin C to support my body to make progesterone. So far natural progesterone cream has been a major key in my recovery from adrenal fatigue & Hashimoto's ...along with the iron I just recently. Great info in your videos, thanks!

      Progesterone cream has also helped me gain weight-3 lbs so far! My situation has been so mind boggling because I don't seem to have the same issues as most women with Hashimoto's, I lost weight instead of gained weight with hypothyroidism. I have low estrogen now as opposed to estrogen dominance that seems to be a major problem for most women in menopause (due to not having very little body fat). Hopefully after 3 months of natural progesterone cream use I'll see the full effects of the cream and I may need to use a small physiological dose of natural estrogen cream also to get back my hormone balance. We shall see in a month-the progesterone cream may be enough to get my estrogen in balance as well!

    Hi there @VitaLivesFree, thanks for this helpful video!! I was wondering should I be taking supplements (ie. chaste berry/maca powder) only during the last have of my cycle when progesterone needs to be boosted? Or should I be taking them throughout my cycle to insure that my system is getting a steady supply?

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  4 роки тому +4

      Most practitioners say to take Vitex throughout the whole cycle except the first 5 days. And for Maca, I think it can be taken throughout the whole cycle as well, but you need to take regular breaks to keep it functioning well.

    Hello Vita, since all of these issues you discuss in your videos seem to be related, I don't know where to begin. I recently stopped the pill. I am also reading Lara Briden's period book. @Vitalivesfree  6 років тому

      Like Dr Lara Briden says, it's worth fixing your thyroid first and then see if it fixes your hormones.It often does. If it doesn't, then you'll have to address those, too. Check out this article: www.larabriden.com/irregular-periods-think-about-thyroid/.

    What do you think about continuing to take Vitex after getting a positive pregnancy test? Some people still take it, some don't. What are your thoughts?

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  5 років тому +1

      I personally would continue for the first three months because I've experienced first hand how progesterone levels fall off if you stop vitex abruptly, and that could easily cause a disaster during early pregnancy. I would take it just to be on the safe side.

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  4 роки тому +1

      Progesterone is supposed to be very low during your period, so that level doesn't really say anything. You need to test it 7 days after ovulation. I wouldn't try progesterone cream unless I knew for sure that my progesterone was low and all the other natural remedies have been exhausted. Lots of baby dust to you!

    Hi, I love your videos! So, been trying to get my period back, its been 3 cycles that I missed it already, And I was super regular before that. It started after I started travelling abroad for 2 months, so I guess the change of diet and lifstyle caused me the hormonal imbalance, and I DO NOT want to got to a gynecologist and be prescribed with taking hormones ..so been thinking to take some of the stuff you recommend...my question is , if I can mix them, say I want to take maca , shatavari and vitex..can I take it together?..Thank you so much , you are an angel!

      They could theoretically be mixed together, but I wouldn't start them all together. I would start from one, wait for 6 weeks or so, and then add another one. If you start so many things at the same time, you won't be able to judge their good or bad effects.

      It's good for some and not so good for others. The same applies to maca root. I have low progesterone. In fact, my Gynecologist prescribe me with provera after an endometrial hiperplasia to make my period come. I'm trying with provera this month but I want to switch to a more natural approach.
    I'm also testing my bbt so i can know if progesterone increases. My strogen is ok. In fact is too high. I have constipation and hair loss because of the imbalance.
    So, I will try with the supplements you mention. Vitex is not found in my country (Costa Rica) but i will take magnessium and zinc. Hopefully, it works.

      Yes, my thyroid is fine now. Hashimoto's can go into remission, but if you get really stressed, catch a nasty virus, etc. it might come back again in the future. On the other hand, someone who's never had it can also get it at any point of their life, so there are no guarantee. I really can't answer your question, but I guess progesterone cream could cause headaches if it's the wrong dose, if you don't actually need it, or perhaps some of the ingredients bother you. You said you had migraines also before the cream though? Not sure I understood your comment completely.

    Hi VitalLivesFree, I am suffering from PMDD. I took Vitex few months ago but it was H&B very low dose(4mg), so did not do anything. Then I switched to Maca, it did help me with energy and little bit of positivity but did not really help much with PMDD. I dont want to be on birth controls, so thinking to take 400mg vitex from this month (from cycle day 6). Can Vitex and Maca be combined together and taken at the same time? I m thinking to take Vitex first thing in the morning. My hormones level came normal in the blood test, however I may not have done that on day 21. Looking at my symptoms I am definitely have estrogen dominance, however like yourself I may have just have a slight dominance of estrogen but makes me heavily depressed and tired for 7-10 days before my periods. Thank you in advance for your reply and all the fantastic information you have in your videos. Its really helpful for women like me.

    Would you recommend taking Vitex during the whole cycle and into the first 12 weeks of pregnancy in place of progesterone tablets to sustain a pregnancy until the 12 week mark when the placenta takes over? I just had a miscarriage after 1.5 yrs of trying for our first and the OB said my progesterone was very low and says I should take progesterone once I get my next positive test. I am very weary on ever taking anything not natural.

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  3 роки тому

      I'm so, so sorry about your miscarriage, Cara. I hope your rainbow baby is right around the corner. Now regarding vitex, ladies who get pregnant taking vitex, generally take it until around 12 weeks to avoid abrupt changes in the hormone levels (even though many conventional doctors would probably say that you need to stop, so everyone needs to do their own research and make their own informed decision). I really don't know if vitex alone could keep your progesterone high enough, but what's important is that not all progesterone is synthetic and bad for you. There are bioidentical forms of progesterone that can help you keep your pregnancy going without being unnatural and messing up your natural hormones. Wishing you lots of baby dust!

    I’m perimenopause & barely having a period. Had period past January right before my yearly well women’s exam (in Jan) but hadn’t had one prior to that since July. At time of visit, breast tenderness had been extremely painful for a few months so hormone tested: estrogen@500 but FSH wasn’t indicative of menopause (happened to be ovulating too at this appt right after period.) I started taking EPO & breast tenderness went away. A few more months now w/no libido, no periods & just started getting hot flashes this month mostly during sleep & not sleeping well. Where do I start?? I can’t take progesterone test if not ovulating? My gut telling me low progesterone or add proper supplements if not certain & how do I test when not having periods nor ovulating most months? (Yet also not menopausal based on fsh??) It’s confusing. I am pescatarian & take supplements: milk thistle, Evening Primrose Oil, D3/K2, C, probiotic, krill oil, glucosamine chond msm, magnesium citrate, astaxanthine & drink collagen powder & ACV/lemon jc. Aside from the perimenopause I suffer: tendonitis, cracking popping joints, neck, fingers, hip & feet pain. I just began trying CBD for pain. I won’t take pharmaceuticals. Thanks for any feedback 🙏

My first period came when I was 14. Now I'm 20 and until last year, my periods were extremely painful, heavy, and they lasted for a week, in which I felt weak and grumpy. But they were regular. Since last year, my period started to come at 40-60 days, but those symptoms stopped! No acne, no pain, no heavy bleeding, period lasts 3 days, no clogs, no mood swings. Why is that?

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  6 років тому

      I would suggest testing your progesterone and estrogen levels. It's the only way to find out. During teenage years girls often have estrogen dominance but then in the twenties hormones tend to level out, so maybe that's what happened in your case?

      My hormonal levels are in normal ranges. I eat as healthy as possible, I exercise lightly 10 minutes per day, I take care of my mental health and I try to keep stress at bay, like I've been doing for some years now. • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  6 років тому +1

      My ratio was almost the same at the beginning of my healing journey. It does look like estrogen dominance. Progesterone is lowish (optimal range starts from 15) and estradiol is close to the top of the range (the optimal range I have written in my notes is 20-277ng/L during luteal phase). For maca root, I took it during the entire cycle, but it's good to go off it for a few days regularly to keep it functioning well (the same applies to all the herbs). xx

      Possible because your adrenals are stressed and any extra progesterone goes to more cortisol? Because cortisol is made out of progesterone. Or perhaps because adding progesterone activates estrogen receptors at the beginning, so it can make estrogen dominance temporarily worse.

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  6 років тому +1

      I wouldn't try it without knowing what my LH levels are because Vitex is definitely not good for those with high LH: Not everyone with PCOS has high LH, so checking the levels is the only way to know. xx

      VitaLivesFree Hi, if it raises LH levels, isn't that meant to be good because that's what induces ovulation and I don't ovulate regularly?? I thought vitex was great for people with pcos but I'm not too sure now

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  6 років тому

      It's good for those with normal or low LH and bad for those with high LH. Lack of ovulation can happen with all these scenarios. Here's an article about Vitex: www.larabriden.com/vitex-for-period-problems/. xx

    Hi! I was diagnosed with low progesterone after dealing with really long heavy periods ( once up to 5 weeks) . My Ob gyn ordered a uterus biopsy to rule out cancer. It came back negative but she wants to perform a D&C procedure to get rid of a granular growth. So I also have Anemia and she prescribed progesterone pills. Trying to avoid the hormones I bought one product that claims to be effective. Could you give you your opinion on the ingredients?

      Yes, definitely. The problem is that I took it for two months, then stopped for two months and I've restarted it again a couple of weeks ago, but this time I'm going to stick with it for the full 6 months. I've learned a lot from this experience and will be talking about it in the next videos.

      VitaLivesFree My story :)
      First of all, your channel is so incredibly amazing ! Such soothing style you have 😙
      I took the Vitex for 2 and half months and while it was helping with my hormonal acne , i abruptly stopped it. One thing that was bothering me was if we can take it if we already have regular periods. Mine are very regular periods but the first day cramps are literally suicidal ! And the hormonal acne - that worsens during the second half of the cycle. I m eagerly waiting for your next video and anymore thoughts you have on Vitex. Please keep up the great work darling. You are just lovely :)

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  6 років тому +3

      You can definitely take Vitex if you have periods that come regularly but are too heavy or you have heavy cramps. Stopping Vitex abruptly is really not a good thing because progesterone levels will crash with such an abrupt change. I did the same and I had the worst hot flashes ever and my progesterone fell pretty low for the first time. You need to wean off it slowly. Vitex has been helping me quite a bit though, so this time I'll stick with it. Thank you so much for your kind words regarding my work!

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  3 роки тому +1

      You really can't tell from symptoms alone. So many causes could be behind symptoms like this. You should really start by getting your hormones tested, so you'll know for sure. Two things I would suggest looking into is candida (and heavy metals because that's why candida overgrowth happens) and hypothyroidism.

    I'm really confused because since coming off the pill my cycles are SOOO irregular- previously they were so regular. Got hormones checked and I have low progesterone which is probably why I'm not ovulating frequently. But when i do ovulate, my Luteal phase is about 12 days long so I'm confused as if my progesterone really was so deficient surely my Luteal phase would be far shorter

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  5 років тому

      How is your follicular phase? My progesterone was also on the lower side of normal and the luteal phase was around 12 days, but my estrogen was also on the lower side, which is what was making my follicular phase shorter and shorter (so my periods were coming closer and closer together) and my ovulations weaker and weaker.

    • @user-ug9hc6lt4s
      @user-ug9hc6lt4s 5 років тому

      @@Vitalivesfree oh I'm the opposite, my follicular phase is so insanely long and it takes me ages to ovulate, but the luteal side of things are ok. Like my period is of a normal length, my Luteal temps are reasonably high (could be higher) but all of my issues lie in the follicular phase. Is this due to too much Estrogen?

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  5 років тому

      @@user-ug9hc6lt4s Possibly due to too much estrogen compared to progesterone (which you said is low). But not high estrogen per se. Also it does take a long time for the hormones to get back into balance after the pill. Sometimes it can even take a year. ❤️

    Does one continue taking Vitex during pregnancy? How can one maintain high progesterone levels during pregnancy and avoid miscarriage?

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  5 років тому

      I personally would. Lots of women do, too. Stopping it abruptly in the first 12 weeks can cause a fall in progesterone and then a miscarriage, so most ladies seem to continue and then slowly wean off it closer to 12-14 weeks when placenta takes over the production of progesterone. Even though most doctors would probably say that vitex hasn't been studies in pregnancy enough, so it's best not to take it.
