Yes this interview is vague, but I just see people jumping to either "he's a great guy!" or "what a horrible monster" (the comments then devolve into something random and unrelated such as pedophilia or something which doesn't have anything to do with him). I am guessing the truth is closer to "he's a good guy, since he said no one has ever made such complaints about him, but probably made some mistakes that are likely being exaggerated and he is being demonized for."

I'm a girl (26 but not a woman yet in my eyes, that's why I used that word) and I was on his side from day one. If you notice his explanation, he's not trying to justify his behavior nor make excuses for what he's done, but he's simply trying to make people see that sometimes, being the one who hurts others hurts, too. In times of stress and anger (aimed at everything but the person standing in front of you in most cases), things come across very different from what one meant or what it would've felt like in a different situations. I had strangers saying brutal things to me and I had good friends crossing the line, we're all HUMAN. HE. IS. HUMAN. Not innocent, but a flesh and blood still. And with his childhood and his background and even the package his (now ex) wife is carrying with her combined with his tendency to lose his temper, are all huge factors that contributed to him behaving in ways he shouldn't have. If you listen to his voice and look into his eyes you'll see a good person who had made a huge mistake. But nothing more dramatic than that, really. I'm glad he talked, and I love him deeply as an actor and believe in him as a person.

Casey Affleck isn't legally allowed to say "I'm innocent" because he financially settled with his accuser before any legal proceedings could begin. I'm guessing his managers and agents convinced him it was a good idea to publicly address the allegation in a contrite manner, in light of the #metoo frenzy. So he's in a position where he can't protest his innocence, but has to be seen to say something, so we end up with this.

I think men who grew up in "Panty Raid Culture" have had a hard time seeing a lot of what they may have done in their youth was inappropriate. Objectifying women was literally everywhere, from movies to commercials to TV shows. They not only made it okay, they made it a sport. Then suddenly you're all grown with hindsight, and the tides have changed and you're realizing, "Wait, that was wrong!? OMG! I had no idea, I'm SO sorry! PLEASE forgive me!!"
There is a difference between being a predator, and just being a horny kid on a crusade to score a good time. And make no mistake, most of us were taught that's what we're supposed to do through the arts and popular culture. It's not his fault, but he is still responsible and accountable for his actions.
