23:25 This reminds me about what Gandalf said in the lotr: "far far below the deepest delving of the Dwarves the world is gnawed by nameless things even Sauron knows them not they are older than he now I have walked there but I will bring no report to darken the light of day"
I described the far realm to one of the kids I DM for in my after school program as this: "You're walking with your friend and then a horrible monster jumps out and eats him. You scream in terror and then suddenly you are calm as though nothing happened....because nothing did happen as you had always been walking alone. Moments later your friend is walking beside you and you begin to talk casually to him....because you had always been walking and talking to him." I told him that there is no objective reality in the far realm and all things, including the abstract like time, space and causality are subjective. He made this face 😳
Writeup I did for my players who were entering a far realms incursion: A gray, tattered landscape lies before you, roiling like a flag, moved by a nonexistent wind. The very horizon shifts in ripples, bending the ground up, up, up until it crests over your head - a quick glance South reveals it to have never moved at all. A quick glance North shows the horizon did indeed crest over you, wrapping ‘round to diminish the sky to a thin line, and the ground 100 miles away lies only a few hundred feet above your head. Looking North again, you can see it never moved at all.
This whole episode has me pondering a far realm "genasi", or even tiefling kinda aspect but instead of evil, pure madness. I think it would be interesting to just play out
I have liked and commented! I continue to serve the dungeoncast! this noble paladin fears no realm nor any otherworldy horror. for my love for the lords of knowledge and laughter she keep me safe and sane through any trials! I shall march into the far realm and spit in the face of any monstrosities that rear their ugly heads! or whatever they might have in place of heads... hey everybody welcome to the comments short rest! where I just wanna give you a quick message. unlike those two abominations mentioned in the video, I cant give infinite high five energy. however I will give you infinite love energy! because I love all of you! now back to our regularly scheduled comment. don't have much to say this week. though fun fact, karsus became a great old one after the fall of the floating cities.
Also, Guillermo del Toro tried to get At the Mountains of Madness made, with Tom Cruise to play the lead. Unfortunately that didnt happen. Del Toro did use the imagery in Hellboy though
I was hoping someone else knew this tid bit. I’ve been patiently waiting for the ATMoM to go into production with Del Toro at the helm. Rumors pop up every other year but nothing seems to come to fruition.
You just need 2 of them to exist and you spin one of them clockwise and one of them counterclockwise and they feed off of the infinite high five energy. LOL Who ate all my cheezits there's nothing but madness in this box? Hahahahaha
I've had this idea for a oneshot. The players are part of a Planer Defence Taskforce, and are sent to investigate a surge of chaotic energy in the Outlands. Little to the players knowledge, this is a portal to the Far Realm. Stranded in this dark green abyss of chaos, the oneshot is essensially a fight for survival, bit by bit they slip, eventually fighting an abombination that is a physical manifestation of their sanity.
Proprioception (since it’s my favorite sense, yes i’m a nerd) is the ability to ‘feel’ your body position and action without thinking about it or engaging your other senses. Close your eyes, can you still tell where your arm is without seeing it? That’s proprioception.
Most of the powerful entity's of the far realm predate the gods....possibly the first life to form in whatever multiverse they call home....my fav is the eldest aboleth
In my home brew fantasy setting, my "far realm" and outer/elder gods stem from a species of precursor humanoids that developed incredibly powerful psionic abilities and technologies that allowed them to leave the primary planet behind and travel the cosmos. They eventually reached what they believed to be the edge of the universe and some of that group decided to push beyond the barrier to see what was beyond, and they found two opposing forces: creation/energy, and entropy/stasis. These two forces ripped these precursors apart, but their incredible psionic abilities was both a blessing and a curse. Rather than be consumed by the two forces and disappear into nothingness, their minds and consciousness were ripped apart and spread across all of time, space, and existence. This ended up driving all of them mad (understandably), but also had the effect of them being drawn to similarly strong psionic energies anywhere in the universe, which means that these mad thoughts coalesce into their past selves, driving their past selves mad, which led to the war that caused them to leave the planet which led to them arriving at the edge of the universe and beyond which led to their minds being pulled apart... So technically, they have always existed in this state, making them both Elder and Outer "gods", and from which almost all psionic abilities and madness originated from. tl;dr- eldritch horrors are cool and I had a lot of fun implementing them in a sort of unique way into my own fantasy setting 😅
Ran Gates of Firestorm Peak in 5e, its p good, and just takes some improvising on the DM's part to convert from 2nd e. Pdf can be found on the trove. Highly recommend this adventure.
Very interesting, first time I watch it in video format rather than just listening. Also as a mere note, proprioception is not the related to our perception of geometry or trajectories of external objects. It's simply our ability to discern or perceive the position and movement of our own bodies. All mobile animals and some plants have this sense.
The far realm is scary because it is completely beyond reference. It contains ideas and entities completely alien and incomprehensible. We know what we know, we know what we don't know, and we don't know what we don't know. The last part applies to the far realm
Rewatching this to get ready to run my own far realm campaign. Thanks for your investment into your hobby even if wizards pulled a fast on. I can tell you this for the far realm let me see the future...
A great old one campaign would probably involve a living open world with a enormous amount of hidden occult potentially in both Plain sight and obscure areas
Hey, Atkins the 21-22 minute mark, your taking about The Big Coffin Hunters, they were washed out gunslingers? I have a the same tattoo they do (small blue stylized coffin on the webbing between the thumb and first finger, of their off hand) wooo Dark Tower
If you ask a very high level wizard or your local lich what the far relm is you will tell you far relm is a term for the set of planes where there is no form mathmatics or geomotry that can corectly describe any event interaction object or shape. That is the formal defination of the far relm a high level mage will tell you.
I like to imagine that far realm is on the same level as the astral plane. The only reason people on the astral plain can't reach it is because it's so alien, people's minds can't wander to it. The reason the far realm can't easily reach the astral plane is because outer gods protect the gods of the realms for an unknown reason like in lovecraft's story "the other gods". When aberrations want to get to the material plane from the far realm they half to go the long way from space.
Is it possible for something to form and exist within a slip in space and time that resides partly in the far realm as well as the material plane? Simultaneously?
It’s the scrap book side board and junk yard dark forest behind the normal planes and gets stranger and more alien the further out into an infinite stretch of innumerable nonsense sub realms
The insanity thing isn't actually true in lovecraft's works. If you see them theirs a chance you'll go insne but it's unlikely if you have a decent will. Although they can definitely drive you mad if they try.
How to do a good warlock with a pact to the alien eldritch far realms. the warlock has learned the elder things LIKE being asleep. They are only so dangerous when awoken cause, you JUST WOKE THEM UP FROM A GREAT DREAM! of course its gonna be mightily annoyed. have you ever been woken up from a really good deep sleep? How did you feel? I bet you felt pretty angry. So the warlock knows a sleeping elder thing is a happy elder thing. And happy elder things give pact boons. And that makes the warlock happy! The warlock I am making "Mondane The warlock of Weird Mirth!" Is pact bound to and elder thing known only in ancient myths of the island of chult as "dengar, the serpent that eats nightmares!". Now normally this would seem evil right? WRONG! as dengar eats nightmares, it means mortals have good dreams. But only as long as she sleeps. If she awakes from her slumber in the fiery peaks to the south of the island, ITS REALLY BAD! so mondanes entire thing is scouring the world to keep finding new ways of keeping her asleep and happy. as last time she woke up, SHE ATE THE SUN! Atleast according to ancient myths from the island of chult.
If only Lovecraft would've seen how influential he would become. If RPG'S existed in his time and culture, I wonder what else would've been born (besides his rampant xenophobia). I mean look at the guy.... he was a nutcase. He probably did see how influential he was.
So we are all seeing these ufo videos being released, what if when we die we have to find our eternity. Some get lost on there way, misguided by entities far beyond our understanding. And some make it to there own Elysium. Freaky.

"far far below the deepest delving of the Dwarves the world is gnawed by nameless things even Sauron knows them not they are older than he now I have walked there but I will bring no report to darken the light of day"
Shard of Elemental Evil boring through the Abyss, ripping a hole into the Far Realm.
I described the far realm to one of the kids I DM for in my after school program as this:

that is good!
I'm using this if my PCs end up in the far realm
The Far Realm makes me think of the Realms of Chaos from Warhammer
I’d does remind me of warp spaghetti
This whole episode has me pondering a far realm "genasi", or even tiefling kinda aspect but instead of evil, pure madness. I think it would be interesting to just play out
its pretty sad state when this is the only long video on this topic. Thank you for your video its great!
Players don't need to choose to go to the Far Realm. You grab then by the feet and drag them there.
Or bring the Far Realm to them, Lovecraft style.
Sense of direction, Sense of time, sense of temperature, sense of altitude, sense of humidity, sense of magnetism, sense of common
we have like 27 to 40 recognized ones and we have like 9 tastes.
Sweet, salty, sour, starchy, umami, bitter, metallic, fatty and spicy. For anyone curious about the 9 tastes thing.
Theirs actually 27 senses.
Schrodinger's Realm.
Murphy’s Realm.

Playing darkest dungeon helped with understanding the far realm
saying it now. a t shirt with two eldritch abominations high giving on it and a message that says "infinite high five energy" would be awesome.
damn it I just noticed the typo. and I can't fix it because I'll lose the heart. lol

Love this video. Running a great old ones campain and this and the other great old ones video give me good ideas to try to throw off the party
You just need 2 of them to exist and you spin one of them clockwise and one of them counterclockwise and they feed off of the infinite high five energy. LOL
Who ate all my cheezits there's nothing but madness in this box? Hahahahaha
Reminds me of “Problem Logic” guy
Have you checked out Superquest Saga? You should because it is great. Keep up the great work.

Anybody else want to homebrew a race of Elves who are native to the Far Realm? We've already got some who are native to the Feywild and Shadowfell!
So kaorti?
Shout out to Lovecraft

Always love the realm vids

Loved the episode, got some good laughs and I really liked the simple explanation of this. Can't wait for the next episode of SQS

Love you guys! Honestly your videos are so fun to watch cause you guys are having fun while also sharing discussions with us and it's a great format.
I have been waiting for this one
I like the dark tower tie in

Top tier beards all around

I’ve been waiting for this topic thank you 🙏 also you guys are awesome
Can’t wait for your star spawn episode
Land of the Davy Jones
I'd be interested in seeing you play a CoC one shot at some point, maybe next year's halloween?
Good Great Old One Warlock power to make a pact with would be Karsus. Regarding a logical-ish and somewhat reasonable power of that category.
A great old one campaign would probably involve a living open world with a enormous amount of hidden occult potentially in both Plain sight and obscure areas

28:30 Sounds like a good Revived Rogue idea
Did you know that there is a Musical version of War Of The Worlds? You should listen to the soundtrack! Its awesome!
YASSS IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE
The Far Realm is no scarier than Graduate School :)
You dont have a very good imagination, then.
Hey, Atkins the 21-22 minute mark, your taking about The Big Coffin Hunters, they were washed out gunslingers? I have a the same tattoo they do (small blue stylized coffin on the webbing between the thumb and first finger, of their off hand) wooo Dark Tower
We've counted actually 27 senses.
Liking because you talked about the dark tower 💕
Call of Cthulu is about investigating and no combat. No healing. Magic is a trap. Sanity is a new kind of HP that doesn't get better you just lose it.
Thanks.
The Mist essentially.
Let's get weird gents
Id love to see a Baldurs Gate DLC about the Far Realms.

The 1st demons came here through there
Sandy Peterson's Cthulu Mythos for anyone who wants to run one
I think Juiblex was inspired by the Shoggoth.
Is it possible for something to form and exist within a slip in space and time that resides partly in the far realm as well as the material plane? Simultaneously?
It's the Far Realm, so yes. Don't question the illogic.
It’s the scrap book side board and junk yard dark forest behind the normal planes and gets stranger and more alien the further out into an infinite stretch of innumerable nonsense sub realms

Since WOTC has established that MTG and DnD share the same multiverse, wouldnt the far realm and the blind eternities be the same thing?
And if I’m not mistaken The clown monster from IT is somewhat from the primordial soup, correct?
19:30
Watch the movies Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 before Army of Darkness.

What happens to a God like Vecna or a great demon enter to Far Realms? Or ethereal astral dragon..or limbo inhabitant..

Welcome to the space of nothing and everything where everything and nothing of space the to welcome
If anything logical happens in the Far Realm you're doing it wrong
The way that you read made me close the video and thumbs down it
