3D Technology, Aging, Humanity, Medical research, Medicine, Science, Transplant Dr. Harald C. Ott is a thoracic surgeon at the Massachusetts General Hospital and an Associate Professor in Surgery at the Harvard Medical School. He is best known for his work in whole organ regeneration. He discovered and perfected the method of stripping an organ of its own cells and then infusing the remaining scaffold with new progenitor cells. To date, his technology has been successfully applied to heart, liver, lung, kidney, and pancreas regeneration. This method of reseeding and engraftment with native cells potentially eliminates donor organ shortage and the need for life-long immunosuppression in transplant patients, and thus lays the path for effective solutions for the millions of people in need of organ repair or replacement. Engineering organs to order will be a MASSIVE leap forward for mankind. Honestly, I'm not sure why we don't have a space race regarding this field, just as we should be doing with going carbon neutral.
People should donate their organs for people who are suffering from deficiency of organ . In my opinion
A problem with this is that cadaveric organs aren't that easy to come by. The donor must be deemed 'brain dead' but the physical body is on life support. Otherwise, the organs go too long without oxygen and become too damaged for transplant. Live transplants are possible, but donating a kidney isn't all that easy to come by too, especially because living donors can't legally be compensated for their donation.
