- Italian authorities are searching for a “daredevil” who has jumped from the roof of a three-story building in Venice, belly-flopping into a canal.
The Mayor of Venice says he’d like to give him a “certificate of stupidity” and has vowed to have him and his friend who filmed the stunt arrested.

The Mayor should be more disgusted of how his city looks like trash with all the criminal graffiti which only means businesses are broken into and no policies to stop destruction of property, but a guy swimming and diving, that's a crime.
Graffiti is a blight on just about all the European cities. It is a really sh-ty aspect of their culture. Remarkable consider they have the most beautiful architecture in the world.
They might need some govermeant pay in italia for painting.

I visited Venice 30 years ago. When they actually cared about how he city looked. There was no graffiti then that I saw. And the city looked clean.

Venice is a relatively safe city. All this does is destroy the image of a UNESCO heritage site… if it goes unpunished it will make more people attempt these stunts. It’s not a huge deal I agree, but ignoring it isn’t the solution

The water is a little sketchy…in fact, the use of canals as a sewage disposal system in Venice surprises many visitors, and should definitely deter you.
Some islands and parts of the historic center use more modern sewage systems, but still, a lot of the wastewater in big parts of the city is disposed of in the lagoon. Twice a day, the tides pull the dirty water out of the lagoon and bring fresh seawater in.

To all the ignorant people in the comments: swimming in the canals of Venice is prohibited because 1) the water is extremely dirty so it's unsafe for your health, 2) the water is less deep than you might think, which makes it actually quite easy for boats to hit you.

I'm pretty sure he has some internal injuries from belly flopping at that height, even if he's able to walk.
Doubt it. I know many people that bellyflopped from distances just about that high. While they may get a burn, their internals are OK. These are people that did this many years ago and I still walking today. Not everyone is fragile and made out of cotton candy.
