+pretty kitty hey it helps if you use a foundation primer my personal favorite is laura mercier and also use a makeup setting spray i used the urban decay one this helps your makeup last and prevents the cakey look

Hi Emma! I'm replying under your comment because you are a makeup artist and so I feel like if Jaclyn can't get to me, you might be able to! I was just wondering, I've always heard to put a white base under shadows to make them pop... Is there a different kind of "pop" when you use black? or is it the same? hope that makes sense!
Hello I'm not Emma or Jaclyn, though I can say for a person that works with makeup everyday with customers. White base is to make lighter colors to pop if you want a pink eyeshadow to stand out or a white eyeshadow or any colors that are considered pastels the white base will make it pop. Black base makes darker shadows stand out if you want a cranberry color or a brown shadow, black shadow, emerald green shadows anything that is darker shadows. Also metallic shadows stand out with a black base. If you want you dark shadows to pop but not to intense then you could use a dark brown base which will give a beautiful pop but not to dramatic. Hope this helps
Though, if you use a white base for dark colors then it will pop but not as dramatic as the black base. It will give it a more of a wearable look black base makes it a smoky effect and will be easy to blend to give it a smoky effect on your crease and outer corners.

This has got to be my fave tutorial. I have greyish blue eyes and these colors would look amazing. This seems like a great way to take unnatural colors and transition them to an everyday fun look.

I see people use white as a lid base color sometimes (NYX Milk) and black sometimes (like you did in this look). When do you use one vs the other? What difference in the look do they produce? (Anyone who can answer is welcome to as I assume JH is too busy to answer over 1,300 comments)!
I don't know if this is what your asking, but typically you use a white base to make lighter colors stand out for like a neutral eye. You would use black or a dark base for like this type of eye or a dark eye period. I hope this helps and is what you were asking :)

Yeah. Think of the urban decay electric palette or the sleek acid palette. white is used under most of those colours to make them pop. stand out. Black i used for my darker colours or when i want to add depth. I use black under purple, blue, or darker pigments for a more intense eye look. xx
Thanks! What about under pigments that are metallic? Is it correct to say use white under bright light colors like light blue, yellow, bright green etc and black under deep colors (that could also be brightish, but dark) like this purple or navy blue or red? What about gold, copper, bronze etc...
***** yeah all those I would use white under like copper, bronze, vibrant purples anything you really want to stand out I would use white under and definitely metallics. But of you want a really dark smoky eye like this use black or dark brown

Jaclyn, I have a question. I work at Sephora, but everytime I see Becca Cosmetics Rose Gold it looks nothing like that. Instead it looks more like a blush? Have you run into that at Sephoras?
I've read on another video that that highlighter is probably "Champagne Gold" because of how the design is in the pan. It's a limited edition highlighter from Becca. Not sure if that's the case, but it's what I read. Hope that helps! I see a lot of people complain about the "Rose Gold" shade saying it's too dark for highlighter.
She uses studio lighting which tends to alter the true colors:)

Last year around Christmas they came out with a limited edition rose gold with that design. It may be that one.
I order the rose gold by becca 3 days ago it arrived today and it looks nothing like the one she has, don't get me wrong through it's still beautiful but it's not the same 😞

does using a black kohl as the base differ from using white? like should I use black if I am putting a dark colored shadow on top and white if I am using a bright shadow? does that make sense? lmao
I do that:) feel like it works best with a dark base with dark shadows and a light bass with light shadow
I have used a black base under teal and blue (not matte) and they both popped and were brighter more than without so idk there's like no rules to makeup. Just use what you have
The black gives it another dimension. Using white will make it show more of it's true color. But using black brings it down a little but not in a way that would make it look dull. It's a really good way to "cheat" while doing a smoky look.

If you use any dark base it will make your look smokey but if you use any light base like white it will make the color a lot more vibrant. If you use a base with the same color as the eyeshadow you was to place on your lids it will make that color pop more. For example putting a purple base before the purple eye shadow will make the purple pop a lot more. I hope that makes since

The rose gold from sephora isnt like the one she has. I found the one she has at Ulta, idk if Sephora carries that one, but its not online.
I bought mine at Ulta too. It didn't have the print either. I also noticed the size on the box is different than the actual product size.
I was curious about the same thing, but Becca cosmetics recently replied to that question on their Instagram. The pattern rose gold powder is only available in the UK, but the champagne gold is available with the pattern in the US. Becca probably sent it to her personally or I'm not sure how people in the US are getting the pattern. This is just what they commented on their post. Hope that helps. *****

LOL!!! I know right! I remember years ago when I was getting into makeup, I did the EXACT same thing. I'd rock the fiercest eye looks, but not realize how stupid and unpolished it looked with out foundation.
