Caught this M3 on the Far Rockaway Branch running the 8:36am train from Far Rockaway to Penn Station. Leading set was 9941, 9942.

When it first left the station at the beginning, the tracks wasn't aligned. How come it didn't derail??
possibly a spring switch. the wheels will displace the points to the right when approaching from behind. it will snap back once the wheels are over it.
@@steves2694interesting, never knew that existed. I thought the switch was not set correctly and I was scared for a minute!
usually spring switches are noted with a S on the switch stand, which I didn't see. who knows. perhaps all the bottles, cans, and trash worked a miracle.

The LIRR is so different from other commuter rails in the USA. I think it’s the only that doesn’t run with Amtrak (besides at Sunnyside and NYP)

The trashy condition on the ROW at Far Rockaway is depressing.
It was much nicer in the late 1940s when it went all the way through to Rockaway Park, the best book on this subject is Change at Ozone Park by Herbert George
