This song was inspired by a video Jay watched while sitting on the toilet. Just felt the need to let everyone know that. Toilet inspiration is no joke.
Barbara is such a talented singer and I can listen to this song non-stop. I hate Calypso. This song is essentially her saying “my bad, but I did it for love.” Which isn’t a good defense for kidnapping a man for 7 years. She was willing to sacrifice Odysseus’ happiness and well-being because she didn’t want to experience heartbreak. You don’t get to force pain on others to avoid your own. Even if Jorge decides not to include the SA, she’s still committing horrendous crimes against Odysseus by trapping him when she can SEE how miserable the man is.
So we're ignoring the fact that Calypso cant leave the island then- Calypso's Island is her prison for siding with the titans instead of the Gods and she's cursed to never be able to leave (Its legit canon, fact check). Everyone can come and go as they please but she cant, she's quite literally "Stuck in Paradise" "No one can come or go, my island stays unknown" Yeah thats not her saying Oddyseus cant leave because she wont let him, its her saying "If I cant leave, then you probably cant too"
@@-drxxms-dxlight Athena’s line “7 years she’s kept you trapped out of your control” is pretty good evidence for Calypso being his captor. EPIC canon is not necessarily beholden to Odyssey canon as we’ve seen with Circe. But for arguments sake let’s ignore that. It doesn’t really matter if Calypso is his jailer or not because we see Calypso repeatedly coming on to Odysseus despite being repeatedly and clearly rebuffed. She just refuses to take no for an answer. Now admittedly my mental state probably wouldn’t be good if I were trapped for hundreds of years (pretty sure more than 100 despite what the song says), but it doesn’t excuse forcing your affections on a man who is miserably pining for his wife and son. She’s still the villain by being so insistent about turning this into a romantic relationship. She could’ve settled for a friendship to quell her loneliness instead of taking advantage of a traumatized man. If Calypso was just trapped on this island, had no control over whether Odysseus could leave, and wasn’t being a predator, then I’d have no qualms with her. But forcing love on someone is horrid behavior regardless of one’s own circumstances. It doesn’t really matter if she isn’t keeping him there against his will because she’s still a creep regardless.
@@KSmith-kp5jz Just saying this now, this is a conversation not a full blown arguement. For those who like to read, lets treat this like one okay? First off, Athena's line can be argued as not reliable. How? I'll point to observer bias, wherein someones perception on things are affected by other factors (In this case, her guilt for abandoning him, him being her friend and possibly- Athena not knowing Odysseus can just boat on out of Calypso's island because even in canon, everyone else can freely enter and leave the island while Calypso cant). All Athena could have seen in her time dive of Odysseus's journey and time on Calypso's Island is Calypso's attempts at convincing Odysseus to stay, her clinginess and whatnot. If this WAS canon, there would be an arguement of Athena knowing that anyone can enter and leave without consequences bc Hera, pitying Calypso often visits her in the mythos. But its CLEARLY stated in NSFLY that Calypso was alone, ergo even if Athena looked into Calypso, the only thing she'll see is Calypso being alone, unable to leave and therefore would assume Odysseus couldn't as well and that Calypso's clinginess is her keeping him trapped. As for Calypso focing romantic relations. I'll point towards the CANON animatic made by Gigi with directions from Jorge as well as the accompanying Lyrics. "Soon into bed we'll climb and spend our time~!" "Im not your man-" "Im what you want here-" etc. In the Animatic, Calypso quickly averts her gaze as soon as Odysseus turn her down, her distracting herself from the truth because she knew Odysseus stated he already has a wife. She wants to live in the lie that Odysseus will choose her eventually, also notice how she DOESN'T bring up the idea of bedding after that one line, sure it can be interpreted as "Ill try again later when he's willing" but it can also beher takimg the rejection and just throwing that out, she at least respects him that much to avoid bedding him (Jorge even states that Calypso hopes that by spending time with Odysseus, forming an ACTUAL connectiom would lead to him falling for her, she's willing to wait so when Odysseus turned her down she decided to play the long game). Also, can i just point out that you are running with the assumption that Calypso runs on how Mortal's think? She's a god, a minor diety at that but still a god. So let's place our thinking as if we were immortal who's most prominent interactions were with other gods before being banished. The olympians are known to fhuque eachother, relative or not. Calypso knows thats the norm before banishment, being straightforward to get what you want. Now she's trapped in an island, alone amd the first man she see's is a mortal with a concept of "No means No", of Consent. She wouldnt know that, at most she'll think thats him being hard to get, a challenge. For gods, companionships are small when fhuque-ing around with your cousin was the norm. For all she knows, romance is the start of a friendship because most gods start of as weird dark romance. How could she comprehend mortal standards when all she knew before banishment is immortal standards. It's more likely that she thinks Mortals run on the same ideology that gods have. She's just as much as a victim of circumstance than a villaim blinded by lust. Sure her approach wasnt the best, but its what she knew. Its just like how most children who grew up in a religious cult cant function for a lomg while after leaving, thats what she knew, its what was familiar, its hard to part from things that are familiar.
I don’t think Jorge has ever actually specified yay or nay on this so I personally like to believe that in epic/his version of the Odyssey calypso did not commit rape just like in the PJO series because that makes her far more likable and actually makes this song hit hard. Mythological Calypso is obviously a different story because you can’t just change mythology but you can make your own versions of it and the EPIC version I would like to believe that she didn’t.
I love how this song paints Calypso in a different light. Instead of being a creep who kept this man against his will for 7 years it sounds like a young teen who doesn't fully understand what love is because she has never been loved. Props to Wangui for a phenomenal performance. Also I find it interesting that the song starts with Calypso trying to explain and rationalize her actions to Ody. She theb lets out her anger and frustration at Ody then when Ody says he doesn't hate her she implodes and turns all of her emotions into self hatred and confusion. Granted this is all just how I personally interpreted the song.
She barely doesn't even let his MELODY come into her song. She just completely cuts him when wants to talks at first. Really, she is still very much a creep and this song represents that as well.
A quick google search told me that Calypso was cursed to fall in love with anyone who is washed up on her island and be eternally heartbroken when they eventually leave.

I love this song, and i love Epic, but I feel people are a little too sympathetic to Calypso. She imprisoned Odysseus for 7 years against his will, and its strongly implied that she r*pes him. Of course thats not the charaterisation Jay is going for, and thats fine, but please be aware of her actual mythology before you start feeling sorry for her

Same, if I had not known about who exactly calypso was then I would’ve sympathized with her, but with a bit a background knowledge I know that she isn’t a good person and doesn’t deserve to have her actions excused in any way even with her backstory. I hope that people at least do a little research about her and other characters in epic to see what their actual Greek mythology counterparts were like before deciding if they like them or not.
Not saying anything she did was right but if I’m not mistaken wasn’t she cursed to fall in love with any man that washed up onto shore? Again doesn’t excuse anything but explains her actions even if it was fucked up
I believe in EPIC, it's implied that the r*pe didn't happen? Because Odysseus says here that he does love her, just not romantically, and Calypso here appears to be more just really really mistaken about how love works. But yeah, Odyssey Calypso's actions should not be excused.

ME 😭😭😭 I feel like the things that sings Calypso here is so relatable with things in real life!! And I also has found points to argument that she wasn't the one who decided to trap him in her island and is just that she was like a little girl that didn't how to love and had to learn it the hard way. That when you love something, you have to let it go. I don't think that EPIC Calypso SAed Odysseus, because I don't think that she had sexual interest on him, but more like playing with him like his boyfriend. I feel that she didn't force him to sexual things and she supported him in his downs, and that's why Odysseus says that he loves her even though she thinks he hates her (As all of us did), because her love was genuine, not the best way and a bit clingy, but she did cared for him. Also now that I think it that would also be a reason that Odysseus didn't jump after all
Am I the only one who feels like this somg is really guilt-trippy, and manipulative? Like, Odysseus has made it clear SINCE THE BEGINNING(in both the Odyssey and Epic) that he doesn’t want her and just wants to go home to his wife, to leave Ogygia. I’m trying to differentiate Epic Calypso from Odyssey Calypso but she trapped him for 7 years when it’s VERY clear he doesn’t want to be there! Like, she’s harassed him since his first 5 minutes on her island, ignoring the fact that he keeps saying he has a wife he wants to go back to. Especially the “I am sorry my love’s too much for you” feels so SO manipulative. Like idk if this song is meant to garner sympathy for Calypso but it just makes me angrier with her for trying to(and apparently succeeding to based on that I love you!) manipulate him into feeling bad. She’s kept him trapped for 7 years! It would’ve been longer if not forever if Athena didn’t intervene! Odysseus probably would’ve killed himself there if she hadn’t!! This song just feels. Wrong. For (in my eyes)trying to make Calypso more sympathetic (Also before ANYONE replies to this, no she is not cursed to fall in love with anyone who washes up on her island. She isn’t imprisoned there either, she literally just lives there. Both of those things are changes made in Percy Jackson and do not show up in any actual mythology)
Can yall help me find a time dive animatic jay showed us once, spent 2 weeks trying to refindit. Its like hella detailes with athena facing right. And it skips do diffrent places.

@@saphire_flame "being magically forced to fall in love with any stranger that lands on the island while their always predestined to leave" is not in any mythology, percy jackson popularized that. she was isolated on the island because she supported the titans in the war (since she is a daughter of atlas). yes you can sympathize with her but that doesn't erase the fact that she's a bad person and she's very obviously manipulating odysseus
No it's Why is the World would you love me too, because Odysseus saying that he loves her too hurts her, because he gives her one final last hope before taking it back.
If this version of Calypso has 10 fans then I am one of them. If calypso has only one fan then that is me. If calypso has no fans, then that means I am no longer on earth. If the world is against calypso then I am against the world.
"im sorry my love's too much for you" really rubs me the wrong way. girl... how is that different from "im sorry you couldnt handle the way i express love". its not even an acknowledgement of fault.
I dont like calypso but she has a nice name AND i love the tropical vibe her songs have... i live in a tropical region and the instrumental tastes like a cold fruity slushy on a beach resort, but obvioulsy this was not what it was like for odysseus.
I dont get the Calypso hate. She's just as stuck as he is and lonely af for all she knew he would be there forever with her. After 100 years of isolation yeah she'll be a little overzealous and desperate. She's not prepared to comfort a man who "indirectly" killed all of his men to save himself, but nobody short of a very skilled therapist or Penelope could fix that hot mess. Despite the source material, in Epic she never laid a hand on Odysseus, so this Calypso is not to blame for her ancient greek counterpart. Definitely very overhated for no reason.
Regardless of her not being a rapist in this version, she's still his captor and harasser for 7 years straight. She watched his psyche crumble on that island, and never considered letting him go. When he tries to leave, she's the one bringing him back, it'd be different if the ocean itself refused Odysseus' presence
@@tetragaming6332 in case you hadn't noticed, she can't let him go. It took literal divine intervention to do that. Even if she could, what person would willingly let a man build a log raft to sail to God knows where? There is a million to 1 chance he'd even make it close to Ithaca without instruction.
@brenndanmcdonaugh1672 it took divine intervention for Calypso to let him leave. In case you hadn't noticed, the entire song 'Love in Paradise' is built around her _deciding_ to keep him, _deciding_ that he was hers. What type of person? A good person would help him build the raft and make sure it's as sturdy as can be because rafts were the method used before more streamlined boats were crafted
@@tetragaming6332 "no one can come or go, my island stays unknown." That one line and God games discredits your first paragraph. If she could let him go Athena wouldn't have to petition Zeus to let him go I'm sorry, what? You'd HELP someone commit suicide by aimlessly wandering into the ocean? Not even mentioning this is the ONLY person you've ever met, once again isolating yourself forever.
@brenndanmcdonaugh1672 you're missing a chunk of storyline. Athena Petitions Zeus, because she knows Calypso won't just _let_ Odysseus go. Calypso can't refuse an order enforced by Zeus, but she can refuse Athena and probably win if things get violent due to being closer to her titan heritage. YES, because it's called being a good person. Odysseus has somewhere to be. Helping him, even if neither of us knows if this will end well for him, is the right thing to do. I certainly wouldn't go "forget your wife, kid and city, and be my partner on my prison island." Just pray to Hermes, get a direction from the GOD of Travelers. "No one can come or go; my island stays unknown" like she fucking knows? Odysseus is the first person to wash ashore; breaking the first part, she knows fuck all about the island rules for him. She's making shit up just to keep him there
Jorge posted a lot of Snippets for this song to promote Epic and then at a music showcase thing he did around the time of the original Troy and Cyclops Saga releases he showed the full demos of several different songs "I'm Not Sorry For Loving You" being one of them

Who’s putting silverware away in the middle of a recording session!!!! lol
Pretty sure it's "cast away" not "passed away"....
Jay got this song idea while sitting on the toilet and watching a video 😂
WAKE UP YALL NEW SONG DROPED
Isn't it "was CAST away when I was young"?
Gods, why do I feel bad for her when I'm supposed to hate her like the rest of the Epic fandom? I just can't hate her
ME 😭😭😭 I feel like the things that sings Calypso here is so relatable with things in real life!!
Also now that I think it that would also be a reason that Odysseus didn't jump after all
I think as long as you don’t ignore what she did , it’s okay
You are not supposed to hate her 😂, the fandom did that by itself because they can't separate epic from the original odyssey
Wrong. For (in my eyes)trying to make Calypso more sympathetic
(Also before ANYONE replies to this, no she is not cursed to fall in love with anyone who washes up on her island. She isn’t imprisoned there either, she literally just lives there. Both of those things are changes made in Percy Jackson and do not show up in any actual mythology)
Yeah calypso is definitely not a good person at all, but the songs a banger 🦌
No because same. And my friend called me crazy when I said so :\
@@catripl5871oh yeah absolutely, Wangui’s voice is BEAUTIFUL
Not goin to hold you... that edit at the end caught me because I was mad confused at first 😂😂. Thanks for the heads up.
Can yall help me find a time dive animatic jay showed us once, spent 2 weeks trying to refindit. Its like hella detailes with athena facing right. And it skips do diffrent places.
It's in the shorts by mircsy? I think
I like how there's just a random reference to Red Flags in the art section
they could never make me like you calypso.
Just pretend shes a hazbin character
yeah, valentino.
they could never make me hate her😕
everybody's super sympathetic for calypso but like. did yall not listen to love in paradise?
Someone can be a victim and do a bad thing. The two are not mutually exclusive
@@saphire_flame a victim of... what?
@@qwerty_qwerty Being isolated on an island for 100 years since she was a child against her will being magically forced to fall in love with any stranger that lands on the island while their always predestined to leave??????
@@saphire_flame "being magically forced to fall in love with any stranger that lands on the island while their always predestined to leave" is not in any mythology, percy jackson popularized that. she was isolated on the island because she supported the titans in the war (since she is a daughter of atlas). yes you can sympathize with her but that doesn't erase the fact that she's a bad person and she's very obviously manipulating odysseus
@@qwerty_qwerty Victims can be bad people.
im pretty sure its "why in the world won't you love me too?" in the end
yeah
No it's Why is the World would you love me too, because Odysseus saying that he loves her too hurts her, because he gives her one final last hope before taking it back.
Im from Philippines
That’s a cool cover!
This isn’t quite a cover, it’s the actual singer for Calypso singing this. Oh to have a good singing voice, though! 😅
@@solagovideos no I meant the Art cover lol
@@TowardsTheMoon880OOOOH I GOT YOU, and thank you!
@@solagovideos That would be perfect when he releases the vengeance saga (I wonder how it’ll look 🤔)
@@solagovideosyou guys I want you to know I *also* read the comment incorrectly lmao
i always hated calypso but this just broke my heart🙁🙁
If she could let him go Athena wouldn't have to petition Zeus to let him go
I'm sorry, what?
She's making shit up just to keep him there
at first you may see calypso as a villain but as soon you hear this song you'll understand her story... shes just broken...
How you get the full song before the release? I need to hear the rest of the saga 🥺
Jorge posted a lot of Snippets for this song to promote Epic and then at a music showcase thing he did around the time of the original Troy and Cyclops Saga releases he showed the full demos of several different songs "I'm Not Sorry For Loving You" being one of them
3:31 heheh its me 😸😸
Is this leaked?
Well, over the years of Jorge development of Epic, he always share his progress with Epic, like showing parts of unreleased songs. Not Sorry Loving For Loving You happens to be (almost) fully shown.
@@adamharith782 There was a comment on this person's video for The Challenge that it was from a livestream or something where Jorge shared a bunch of the songs, which included these two. I haven't verified this but it sounds accurate
@@miyo-thearchivist Yeah, iirc, Jorge went to a music seminars or something like that and he shares The Challenge and Not Sorry For Loving You.
I feel far to connected to this song... Ive been rejected like 4-5 time intm the last few years. I feel what she's feeling. Not knowing what to do with this love, like what am i supposed to do now? How do i deal with the love i feel for you..
Anyone know if this is gonna be in wisdom saga or the next one
It will be in the Vengeance Saga, which is the saga after the Wisdom Saga!
