All Indians have common Forefather irrespective of their religion.....Bharatiya is a culture which is universal to all Indians not restricted to any religion...That is why the Survey clearly states people of all religion believe in Ganga....But why is this Religious divide Report now?

I watch 'Cut the Clutter' everday while doing dinner. On weekends I watch National Interest and Off the cuff episodes. It has become part of my routine. Shekhar sir has made even cluttered subjects very accessible to us Hindi mediums.

The report is a big slap to reporters like Rana Ayyub, Barkha Dutt, and Ravish Kumar where everyone is in "darr ka mahaul", and no freedom lies in the country. Where is fascism and religious atrocities now?

This survey itself implies that social media loudspeakers and "experts" never speak for the larger society. It also implies that one NYT, one WP, or one Economist have no basis to declare a country as big and as diverse as India, as being "Intolerant", on their covers or articles. Generalizing or stereotyping India doesn't work. India is a country of contrasts. It is a very complex country, so much so that even Indians have difficulty understanding it, so why do we give so much weight to foreign "experts'" opinions about us?
As Deng Xiaoping said, "hide your strength and bide your time". This is what India should do. And most importantly, we need to shed our past insecurities, accept ourselves as we truly are and improve our society and economy. That should be our Indian dream.
In short India is a cesspool, if you want to save yourself then leave it as soona as possible

Do you understand the absolutism and relativity? If so, then answer is simple.I ndia is relatively more intolerant than india which was 10 years ago. There is set threshold for any country based on long term genralised observstion and any positive or negative ripple should be consisdered relatively not absolutely. All the acceptance comes from the Hindu, Buddist n Jain book nowhere say convert or kill of followers of other faiths.
But as per this data, assuming it was done faithfully and properly, muslims and christians ain't more intolerant than hindus and others even if there scriptures say otherwise.

@@ghazialamgir1973 well you didn't read the report then, did you? The Pew report says Hindus are more likely to marry outside their casts, whereas muslims are less likely to do so. Read the data. For Hindus the data points are 60%, whereas for muslims it reaches 80%. So, me being a dalit myself, I was interested in those data points initially. And busting all myths, Indian muslims are bigger casteist than Hindus according to this Pew research. Try reading this Pew research on your own, and it's even mentioned in the video. Even try and watch Kushal Mehra's video, he sometimes writes even columns for print, he has explained beautifully the entire pew research in another video of his own. If you read the Pew research, it states thay indeed Hinduism's influence dominates over all other religions in India. Even the video talks about things like celebrating diwali, karma, bindi, purifying capability of Ganga there are few other points talked about in that report, if you read on your own. There's not a single point in whole of this research where it says that Islam has had any influence on Indic religions or religions in India. Not even a single point. But it points on several points where, Hinduism influences every religion in India.
The caste survey also brings down the myth of large caste-based discrimination in India. and Dravid parties are never pro Dalit. They are only anti-Brahmin.

Dravidian politics are for backward classes, sc, st, etc., caste. Their policies attract pro Dalit voters to them and not BJP in Tamilnadu. This data combined the stats from Karnataka and Andhra (where discrimination is high), It clearly states "Data of South", not just TN! If DMK is not working policies in favour of the majority, who are Non-Upper caste here, then they won't be winning elections in TN. Anyone with a little bit of knowledge about TN politics know that DMK are for Non upper castes since their foundation. How do you think an overwhelming majority of Non upper caste Hindus vote for DMK ha? As long as BJP are Pro-Brahmin(who are a mere 3%) they won't be winning majority TN votes of backward classes,sc, st, etc.

I hate to sound cynical here, but 74% of Indian Muslims are in favor of Sharia law to settle matters and 63% of Indian Muslims say there is only one way to interpret Islam. Add those two together and so 63% of Indian Muslims think Sharia is the one and only interpretation of Islam. That should be deeply concerning to everyone.

I think with time muslims in india got indianised hehe. Because india is birthplace of many major religion. So there mindset much have changed in hundreds of years. Especially the muslim rulers/kings had many hindu generals. And since they ruled the majoity hindu, I think they accpted the religions of the land. In past, Muslims rulers always converted or massacred the newly conquered people, but in India this was not the case. (except few cases of the sikh leader)
The problem with many such surveys is that respondents answer the way they feel they should respond and not actually what they believe in.

OK so 85% of Hindus say that they believe all religions should be respected, whereas 78% of Muslims believe this, and Shekhar ji is saying its not that much of difference? That is close to 10% of difference, large enough to topple any government, large enough to get all kinds of appeasement benefits. What do you mean by saying its not that much of a difference?
Look at the trend, Sikhs, Budhists, Jains and Hindus, are are in the same range, that's what you call not that much of difference, whereas 78% Muslims and 76% Christians, they are in the same boat..... You see where the issues stem from?

Look at the data on intereligious marriage, Muslims and Hindus come in the same category there, while the other religions form a separate category. So kindly do a more accurate analysis before jumping to conclusions.

My biggest concern in Dravidian politics for now is that it started as a dalit movement which was taken over by landlords to be a non brahmin movement , which again returned to its dalit roots by periyar eventhough he was a landlord but the electoral party DMK, admk are too much pro OBC as they are nearly 60-70 percent in TN percent and fear that if they select dalit candidates in general constituency or support dalit parties they will lose and even say things like how can you contest in general constituency to dalit parties. There is this hidden suppression of dalits in TN.

Actually with BSP as the big National Party (once it had MLAs in 12-14 states and power in Big UP and Good presence in MP,RJ,Punjab,etc although much Weaker now) and other parties like RPI, VBA in MH, LJP in Bihar and all these Mandal Movements helped in getting them jobs.
No matter what part of India, historically whenever OBCs get power, the first thing they do is unleash hell on Dalits. Since, OBCs, especially the dominant ones are landed castes, Dalits usually live in their fear. So they don't report it.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist), which leads the Left Democratic Front government in Kerala, is no different from this trend. They (LDF) came back to power with 99 seats out of 140 just a couple of months back. There is just one Dalit in the 21-member ministry, and he was given comparatively unimportant departments. Nor has there been much Dalit presence in the Politbureau of the CPI (M), if you look at 70+ years of history.

However, you left out the West (Gujarat and Maharashtra) for having the least discrimination against Muslims (15%) in comparison to the rest of India; only made a reference to the South which actually had it a bit higher than the West. Had it been the other way around, he would have said, “Look Modi’s Gujarat.” Ground realities speaks for itself!
In our village in Gujarat, our neighbours are Muslims, and we live in harmony with each other! Not the usual propaganda you see on TV/Social Media. We never had any issues, as a matter of fact, we attend each other’s weddings/celebrate Diwali/Eid/even Rakshabandhan together!

These are Panth, a path to Spitiruality, Godliness and a decent way of living. But all of these are suggestive, which means whether to follow these or not is the decision of the individual.
As for Dharma, it is completely different concept. It is the force of Nature, everything in the world has a Dharma. All the panths in India have Dharma as their basic doctrine. Dharma for humans is a set of prescribed actions that are righteous; actions that uphold the good.
Therefore, the correct word for Indian philosophies is Panth. Dharma is a doctrine found in all these Panths.

@@rangak3976 You are under-informed about the uniform civil code. There is nothing with reference to language or culture or state-wise demographics. You should research on what it actually is. It just puts common laws for all Indians with regards to subjects like abortion, adoption, divorce, marriage, property inheritance to boys and girls, etc. In every developed democratic country these common set of rules. Today different communities have got different personal "law boards" which is a direct national security concern. Why separate "laws" for each others? Constitution clearly says all are equal before the law. So personal law boards are strict violation of constitution. Even Ambedkar ji is strongly against personal law. Muslms 4 biwi kar sakte hai officially, but which developed and sane person or country can ever imagine to allow that? But Hindu community has to follow only govt. of India's laws. Hindu temples are under govt. control but other religion places are not under govt. control. Why? Either give the independent temple rights to respective Hindu devasthanas, or seize all churches and monasteries and msjids. We need to remove article 30A of the Indian constitution and amend the places of worship act. Article 30A gives rights to non hindus to preach their religious education but it bars hindus from giving any sanatan dharm education. Why so? This article is the reason why ISKCON or Sadhguru Isha Foundation never openly call themselves hindu. Because state govts will immediately seize all properties under hindu religious and charitable endowments act, which is such a disgusting act, it was passed by the East India company during Britishers, to loot hindu wealth. But after independence still govt has never recognized hindu temples as an independent body. Why so? Why this discrimination against hindus? And its not only hindus who are under control. Even other religions also are not getting equal rights. Womens rights for other faiths are completely distorted. Property distribution laws for male and female child are strong for hindus, but for all other faiths there are weak laws. Hence exploitation happens and community never develops as a whole. India has stuff like nikah halal allowed. How can India, a modern democratic country, about to become developed, can think of having such discriminatory policies? Uniform civil code is the basis for democracy. If no UCC, then no democracy. Democracy does not mean totally un-restricted freedom. Democracy means a set of common rules which all communities agree on. Constitution of India does not grant rights to discriminate on any grounds, and clearly mentions that in the future the govt. must establish a Uniform Civil Code. Hindus dont have a problem with it, buddhists, jains, sikhs, and all others including christians dont have a problem with it. Even educated muslms (with proper school education and not mdarsa-chhap) have no issues with it. UCC is the basic thing both, our constitution as well as Supreme court pesters the govt to bring. Ambedkar ji himself was a strong proponent, in fact every democratic and secular country supports UCC. If UCC and Population bill are implemented really well, then it would be awesome. And India's future would be secured. See we are not against rituals or beliefs, the personal acts will still be there, but we are against discriminatory policies, and the absence of basic citizen rights. Let's say tomorrow if XYZ culture of India comes and says "it is a practice to stab each other in our culture, so please allow it." Is that acceptable? No. Just like how taking someone's life is a crime nk matter what, similarly anything in any particular act if it violates the basic national laws, it would be barred, but under the basic national law blanket u can follow whatever you want however you want. That is Uniform Civil Code. Yes there will be fuss about it, again roads will be blocked, some posters and effigies will be burnt, buses may be vandalised, etc. Kuch log atank phailayenge, thodi thodi aag toh lagegi hi, magar it is important. A vast majority of developed and logically thinking Indians will benefit from this. This is why I support the govt. From 30 years we didn't have a majority party in centre, which is why world never really trusted, business friendly laws never came, FDIs never increased, etc. Now we are turning the tide, in the new Bharat.
