@@joenicklo thanks Joe! Was literally checking on your channel the other week to see if anything new had dropped, am a big fan of it. Looking forward to seeing some new stuff from you in 2025 maybe 👀?
You’re a legend Ed! You’re one of those channels where I instantly click anytime a video comes up! Can’t wait to see what you’ve got planned for next year!
Thank you for sharing the breakdown of your various income streams. I actually found your channel via the longer / process videos so whilst the gross numbers may be slightly lower, the ensuing opportunities hopefully make up for it. Excited to see more of your work in 2025!
Thanks for a wonderful year in videos, Ed! Been a quiet viewer for a while now, but feels like a good moment to say: your DZO Arles video (which in my minds' eye was one of the first on the platform to have as much real-world, creative footage through those lenses as it did) planted the seed in my mind that would ultimately lead to my purchase of the 14, 25, 40 and 75mm this past B&H Cyber Week haha. So thanks a lot (unironically from me, ironically from my wallet)!
Damn that's a killer line up! I've got those lenses back in now (21 not 25) and am really loving them, also considering picking some up. So glad the vid helped you figure out whether to buy them and I hope you're happy with them.
You’re smashing it Ed! Great source of inspiration, I restarted making UA-cam videos this year and wish I could put more time into it but a 2year old plus full time job makes it difficult, the work life balance part you mentioned is true, so easy to try and fill all spare time with making another video. Looking forward to 2025!
it's so hard balancing everything and in the end you've just got to go at you're own pace, whatever that might be. sometimes it feels like a miracle just getting a video out! this one was originally meant to come out over a week ago and I made the thumbnail a minute before posting haha
I love that you shouted out your partner i felt that to my core, my girlfriend has been pushing me and helping me out so much this year. I've been enjoying your videos a lot and have learned a bunch so thank you for the inspiration! Get some rest and enjoy the end of the year!
So glad that you were able to make somewhat a profit from UA-cam, but it does stink that this took up so much of your free time. If you want to chuckle, I was lifting weights while watching this video. Surprisingly kept me calm while doing that. Doing curls and said to myself, "Those Laowa Rangers look like a great investment." Happy Holidays and can't wait to see what you create in 2025!
Honestly I never went into UA-cam wanting to make money, I make a good living from my pro work, so is not something the channel is necessarily optimised for, often I'm happy if I can push a video out on time! And yes the Rangers are a great investment!
Excellent work! I really dig this channel. Yourself and Tamara Gabriel are the only camera oriented channels that I watch anymore. Stoked for what you get up to in 2025! Happy holidays!
You’ve had a fantastic year man! I’ve been following both the UA-cam and the client stuff you’ve been sharing across socials and you’re someone I look up to in this industry. Your work is incredible, and it’s a pleasure to collaborate when we have the opportunity. Can’t wait to see what 2025 brings for you mate! 🥳
Thanks for all your support Joshy! Best part of doing UA-cam is being able to make new friends along the way, that's what it's all about! Looking forward to some more collabs in 2025!
Love the insight here on running your UA-cam. Big fan of your channel. Was drawn in by the sheer beauty of your art and have stuck around because you share your process so openly. Thanks Ed!
Well done Ed and congratulations on your success. You've put in the work and for it to be paying off is great for your growth. Happy holidays my dude to you and the Misses.
thanks Matt, right back at you, you've been killing it! You're doing some really unique stuff and it always motivates me to push away from gear reviews and explore the creative process.
Yeah it's definitely not life changing, nor does it cover the time invested, but I'm not being particular smart with how I generate money from UA-cam (yet) - now I've got the basics down, hopefully in 2025 I can focus on that.
Yes for sure! I cover this at some point in the video - maybe towards end in the pro vs UA-cam section. I've had a lot of additional enquiries, new work / clients over the last 2 years from people finding me from UA-cam!
Awesome video, Ed. Appreciate the insight and stoked for your growth. Question regarding your YT earnings. Has your channel converted any freelance work?
yeah it's hard to know for sure, as there are the literal referrals where people tell me they found me from UA-cam, some people I've made friends with and gotten work through them, there have also been a fair few random requests which I may have turned down or others I was not available for. I wouldn't say it's a huge amount, maybe 15% of my total freelance this year came from new YT referrals. But it's consistent, I booked a few last year and I think when establishing contact with new clients having the YT channel has helped add an extra layer of approval. Some clients have really liked me doing BTS or breakdowns on projects, which is interesting. I did also book a really cool doc project recently and worked with a new director which only happened because of my YT visibility.
@ that’s great, man. Great to see your hard work paying off like that. It’s like having touches in all of those places adds to the overall business success.
Great video buddy, thanks for the transparency. It’s very helpful for the YT community 🤙🏻 Your Palermo LUT + DJI Pocket 3 = Best content creator’s combo! 🔥
for me the setup just isn't robust enough for larger jobs. Plus my VA just doesn't work very well, the screen is faulty and temperamental so it's not very reliable anymore. Ideally I want an all in one system than can be pulled out and powered with a single batt etc. had audio etc, I'm finding the S5 iix are fine for smaller jobs, but for larger commercial jobs where I need a camera with the quality of an FX6 or similar with AF the Komodo isn't the best fit
@@EdProsser Nice. I was hoping you were about to reveal you've discovered an iPad-centric utopia where you can travel light and edit short-form RED raw on the go! In the next life...
@@westernapproachesyou can very much do that, I do sometimes do look creation on my iPad and grade red raw files, it’s just a bit fiddly on my 11in and I have my 14in laptop
😮! Cool. Is that with the iPad version of FCP or resolve? I mean, it sounds cool, but also I can imagine it being a bit of a PITA and it would usually be easier just to wait until you have access to your normal machine.
@@westernapproachesI work with resolve, I think editing might be easier with FCPX tho. I think if you were really determined to make it work you could, but you’d benefit from the folio case with a track pad I think. Performance wise there are no issues and you can also load footage direct from an SSD. I’ve done simpler sample footage edits on my iPad but I think doc work with multiple layers and audio would get complicated and you’d probably want the larger iPad for that
Ed, you absolutely crushed this year and have quickly become one of my biggest inspirations. Well done, and cheers to 2025
thanks Jake, that means a lot! honestly a big fan of your channel and the spread of content you release. Big up to you and all the best for 2025!

Ed I could listen to you talk for an hour, so your longer videos are a joy to watch!
Good stuff mate! So interesting and thanks for not gatekeeping. Keep smashing it this year!
Solid numbers! Makes me want to get back into making videos. @15:15 when I do start up again, I'm deleting the app from my phone for sure.

That's good to hear and I'll definitely keep doing them, they tend to take less time to make as well.

Yeah I still use mine all these years on - it's a great B-cam to my Komodo!

Thanks Ed. September to Christmas is burnout season.
it really is, usually get ill just after Xmas (usually from a family member) was a little early this year 😒

that's the Red Raptor with one of the DZO Arles

that’s on my LUMIX s5 ox and 18mm LIMUX s lens

camera control with the red control app! it’s an essential part of my workflow!
