- Matthias Haffner explains the forró rhythms from Pernambuco, like: Baião, Xote, Forró, Arrasta-pé, Xaxado. The traditional percussion instruments are the zabumba and triangle.

I must say, as a brazilian, I feel very flattered with the way you guys teach, your professionalism and all the knowledge that you guys have about brazilian popular music. Matthias even pronounce portuguese words very nicely as well. It's nice to have the rhythims broken down and analyzed this way, cause when you live in Brazil you take the musical study a bit for granted. We develop a "feel" and dont study this in depth. You guys do the job of making it more democratic so that everyone can learn. If I can suggest that you guys put some examples of the rhythms that you taught with classic examples, maybe playing along with the instruments as well. Baião for instance is the rhythm of Asa Branca, which is a classic, maybe play along with this song, so that people can develop a better understanding of how everything sounds and improve their empathy towards the musical learning, which I find very effective for teaching purposes. Keep up the wonderful work you guys do!

I hope I didn't make a mistake! I didn't understand what the soft stick is called in portuguese and unfortunately I didn't get what was meant with the suffle feeling in xote :( Thanks for this awesome video, it's really helpful! :)
@@jensmueller7483 Thanks for the timestamps. The soft mallet is simply called baqueta (generic term for a drumstick), sometimes also maçaneta (a term also use for the door handle, go figure!)

Frevo Mulher - in the version of Amelinha the rhythm instruments play Arrasta Pé, a rhythm that I explain in the video minute 17:00. In "Frevo Mulher" with Elba Ramalho, the Zabumbeiro plays Arrasta Pé as well. But actually the song is about Frevo, a music style from North East of Brazil, played in big street orchestras with lots of horns. The version of Banda Calypso for example is more in the Frevo-style, but also not traditional at all - it's more the "Axé"-style, the electrified versions of the traditional styles. "Gemedeira" is also played like an Arrasta Pé, or you could call it a "Galope". The Pattern for Zabumba is exactly like I explain in the video. Hope this could help you!
Matthias Haffner I had seen your explanation about Arrata Pé. It's hard to find material on such specific forró. Could you give me other examples of Arrasta Pé or Galope songs?
