I'm a bricklayer by trade. I'm drywall in
a addition to my house I have a new respect for drywallers and also your videos you're a good teacher! thanks!
Wow, learned a lot. The tearing off the corner of the sanding sponge is pure GENIUS and so simple. God bless you and your great video's.
Agreed
I have never mudded drywall before but I wanted to try it in a room I just built. I watched this video and tried his technique and guess what I got? A perfect three way corner. Of course it probably took me three times longer. :)
I like how you explained left road and right hand side of the road. I've tried to explain this myself to other people and it's difficult. Great job!
Other way to understand that is using the same corner and the same face of the knife against each side of the 3 way
I had to do a small job a week ago. After watching your videos, at times instead of listening to U-Tube oldies, I'll watch your work. Dead serious. I love to watch your work and you take your time and show it well. Thanks.
I spent last summer working for a drywall company boarding, taping and mudding. I was surprised at how strangely satisfying it was .
It is! It really burns you out over the long haul though. You can get trapped in it.
@@vancouvercarpenter story of my life.
Love your videos - you're an excellent teacher
Jack Harrison He really is. Very easy to understand.
Thanks Jack:)
Agreed
All your videos that I've seen so far show professional talent. Good work.
Agreed
Hey, Ben! Thanks for the tips on how to use hard trowels. I’ve been practicing with the hard trowel at work and have finally started to get some great results.
I appreciate that this video tells us when to let the mud dry. Many videos aren't clear about that.
bought an angled sanding sponge the other day and the tip about tearing off that corner was helpful. Thank you
Ybba yabba do! A master at work! Thanks for sharing your secrets with us. Wish you well each and every day! Everyone needs a saviour……….
Hey mate. Love your videos, watch them as relaxation 😊. You obvious have great knowledge and experience, doing drywalls. Coming from masonry I like to use only the trowel on inside corners (I use it for everything really, maybe a wide knife or the 12" now and then). Makes corners faster and I can blend out further in one go. A bit surpsised why its so rare because its perfectly square and you draw of all the left overs on the oposite side with the same stroke as you smooth the side youre on. Keep up the good work👍🏻
I just want to say thank you that was very helpful video.
Pro move @1:23. The no look drip catch. The man is an artist
Nothing better then a perfect three way. Thanks again
I'd like to see a video on when you have a new wall and an existing textured ceiling. I'm struggling to get the corner covered and blended into the existing textured ceiling. A how to would be awesome. Thanks again for sharing your skills.
What kind of texture was it?
Left hand / Right hand drive! Great way to remember , love it!

Wow..i learnd a lot wd ol ur vids... da tricks and ol dat... specially now dat im doing DIY make over to my room... really a big help... continue sharing... God Bless!
Yup I found i like those little angle sponges and have left track marks if not being careful. My next drywall I’m going to pick that corner off. Thanks for the tips
You're both using them wrong. The angled edge is supposed to be in the corner and you put pressure on the surface you're sanding down
Your videos are a great help. Just what I needed to understand how to do a small DIY drywall job.
As someone who is not a professional taper and am in the midst of tackling a complete bathroom gut and remodel in my 1.5 story cape cod home by myself, thank you for the edumacation and the tips. This video is great and will come in very handy.
One quick question although maybe it's better suited for a different one of your videos:
In a bathroom and specifically the areas that may get water splashed on them (bathtub, sink area, lower part of walls) do you recommend using mold/mildew mesh tape or do you still prefer using paper tape?
I have both and did do the ceiling joints with mesh tape but now I'm concerned about strength. The roof is above the bathroom I'm doing and all the studs are plumb now. I have blown in insulation above the ceiling already (18") and the house is old (1947).
Thanks for making these videos. Very helpful.
I really want to learn to do this stuff the right way. I work in a building and get paid by an hour. Problem here is that the guy who is teaching me does stuff really quick because the building owner and manager are pushing for the next tenant to get in always the same story no matter what 😔 that factor make us do a lot of mistakes and not perfect jobs like you do and I would love to do stuff the way you do. Imagine I only mostly used quick set 5 minutes, 20 or 45 and only really weird when I use topping. Amazing Job my friend I am your apprentice 🙏 sensei 😂
Very good technique. If anyone thinks this takes a little too much time, please note that his "tri-sect" will need very little sanding; that's money in the bank. Nice job!
p.s. I loved the sponge hack too.
that car analogy is awesome, makes perfect sense to me as I used to get confused
Awesome teacher. Have learnt lots.
What a great teacher you are! Thank you!
Thank you! 😃
When i do those corners i use a 2 hours mud and do one side first on all the rooms and on the same day do the outer side. Always do the last pass of mud with a slow dry mud.
Thanks for the instruction. helps ALOT!
Detailed, clear and short. Thank you for the great lesson
Agreed
Thk. Siempre aprendo mucho de estos videos.
Excellent Work!
Agreed
Love watching you man great tips and tricks I hate mudding and taping loll!!
Great information, thanks. How do prep the pre-painted surfaces, just the mud?
Looks great. I for one love my inside corner tool
Thanks very much for the great how to videos. Greatly appreciated
Yes! I have done it this way also every. -- float it smooth--- pull it tight
Super thorough and informative.
thank you for your videos. they are very helpful!
I was cursing you last night 🤣 I tried your approach but I continue to get mud squishing out on the opposing side. I even bought the 4” knife with flat edges and could t get it to work. On a positive note - I love the 4” over my 6” ☺️
Wow...very percise !
You're the man. when i try this it ends up mud city. Stay beautiful.
😍
This is extremely helpful! Thank you!
Very Nice!.... Thank You!
Man that corner job was money!
Thanks!!
Thank you, hope Canada stays cold
I noticed you used short pieces of tape on the two walls leading into the corners. Does that make it easier to work instead of using a long piece of tape that would run the length of the wall? Also, if you do use short pieces, do you just butt up the next piece, or overlap it to finish taping the wall going away from the corner? Thanks!
da324 I am dying to know this same thing! Guessing this was just for the demo; to do the job properly we would measure and precut the paper tape to size of the entire length of the seam.
It looked pretty good to start out
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Thank you for all the great videos! We moved to Bowen Island and have a massive amount of drywall to do on our old Pana-bode style cabin house. Any advice on drywalling over wood walls would be appreciated. Otherwise Im feeling pretty good through watching your videos in giving it a shot!
Always great job. Keep up the good work, I always learn new tips!
Awesome video and content--particularly the part about tearing off the corner of the sponge sanding block. 5-Stars++
Nice tutorial. Thank you
Great video you're awesome Ben my phone has came out awesome but I also have done a lot of concrete work. I call it like a classic movie when I loved when I was a kid gleaming the cube a perfect cube corner thank you
PS yes it takes a little bit of extra days to let things dry and work the next day well worth it jump to something else to work on
holy shit I've never seen a corner so good
Agreed
Ben, the 45° on the sanding sponge is there so you dont gouge the wall no need to tear the edge of your sponges.
patrick morgan actually, the way he tears the sponge allows you to square the angle out. If you use the point off the sponge, you groove and round the angle. I could also say they don’t use a roller, don’t know if he fills gaps with bond, etc. tape could not be wiped properly and be rounded. All subjective. If he puts out nice work, he puts out nice work
I was wondering if you ever use a corner trowel. Would it be a time saver .How ...would ..... could u feather with a corner trowel ?
Thanks for all the help
Good tip that makes a perfect inside corner
Hi Ben. I’ve learnt so much from you mate. I like your attention to detail too. Regards from Perth WA 🦘🇦🇺
This guy is majic.
Man you are good, but I most definitely suck at this. Thanks for the videos!
Great stuff Ben, thx for all the vids! Something I've been struggling with is joints where one side is new 1/2" drywall and the other side is 5/8" textured & painted. So theres quite a difference as far as the two sides being flush with each other. Any tips or possibly a video on how to tackle this type of issue? I am currently trying to mud these joints (entire bathroom remodel) and it's not going too well so far.
D J, Since I guess the drywall is installed, you will have to use a wide prefill on the 1/2 inch side only; 24 inches if you can. Then, sand the top off the texture (you can't remove it all since it is painted), and skim a tight layer of 20 minute mud over the texture about 12 inches wide. After setting, lightly sand the crumbs and ridges, then tape the joint as usual and run a double wide top coat. This should hide that difference.
The next time, make sure the hanger flushes the surfaces as they apply the board.
My goodness, that glob at 2:07 was stressing me out :)
Would you please make a video about using corner bead to make an arched entryway.
Cut out some plyboard apply drywall blend and stucco ...
Very good!
Wish I had the Vancouver carpenter on the job today!!!you need a hotline cha ching
I noticed you essentially only use one coat of mud, sand and done... 99% of the drywall videos out there do two or three coats. Is one coat really enough? Also, what is your thoughts on using 20 (or 45) minute mud so you can finish that day instead of two or three days?
Subscribed! Great videos
Man you were made to drywall and mud 👩⚖ 🏌️♂️ 🍾 🍻 👑
My son in law is a drywaller. His motto is "you can't shoot a man who was born to hang"
nice. tedious, requires patience and time but the result is great
Just to be clear, you technically are totally fine and ready for primer after two rounds of mudding? Here in Michigan I like to you 120 quickset mud for the first round or two, and then a round two of topping mud? Am I over doing it?
Good video
Is it good practice to cut 45 degree miters in the tape so they don’t overlap?
I want to see how to pick and tape the three ways when doing them with corner tool rolling flushing when doing a full room you tape all the corner's roll, flush then pick the three ways very tricky I get there but could use some help
any tips as to how to finish it in one go with a corner trowel?
Fantastic, thanks
Good job Thank you
Nice job
Hey Ben - thanks for all the amazing videos and tips. Question for you; can you recommend any (U.S. available ) tape or corner product for a 45 degree outside corner ?
So quick question. I noticed when you did the corners, on the wall to your right, you didn't take the tape all the way to the other corner. Do u do the long piece coming from the other corner to meet with were u ended this one?
Will have a look at my kitchen in two months
Let me know how it goes!
Great video!!!thank you!😄
Sounds like 3M needs to modify their sponge and send you some royalties. I've run into that problem of that sponge leaving the 1" line in the corners. Thanks for that tip!
I need help with 45 degree corners, have you done a video of them?
Can you mud over a painted wall or is it better to sand it for no future issues.
Watched a lot of your videos but never seen you wet sand with a sponge, wondering if there is a reason why
Is there a video on how to install L metal on kurf door jambs
If for example a contractor did a bad job with inside corners wen the house was built and if they are cracking now can I just stick a paper tape on top of the cracked corner using compound or do I have to rip off the old paper and redo all over? If I have to rip off what is the best tool I can use?
So your only doing 2 coats in the 3 way corner and the regular corners too right?
Nice demo thanks for sharing that forward to getting to know you and your channel keep up the great work your new friend Ken. God bless bye for now
Really nice
Would You Make a Video on How to Install Crown Molding?
What are the dimensions of the drywall sander head? I'm trying to make sure I get the correct size sandpaper. The sandpaper has to be longer than the head because it wraps around it, correct? From internet searches it looks like the head is about 12" x 4", however the standard 3M sized drywall sandpaper appears to be about 4-1/4 x 11-1/4, which seems too wide and not long enough. In your videos it looks like it fits perfectly, with no sandpaper hanging over the edge width-wise.
Before catching your video I just mudded the right hand side and a day later the left hand side and then repeated. I knocked down any high points but where the walls meet I have bumps all the way down the wall. How do I best take care of this?
Very nice!
Awesome job Ben, what a massive help this is. One question tho, when you're on the finishing pass of sanding is 220 grit what you generally use?
I’m a finisher as well, and 220 is way too fine. Use 120-150 grit for sanding finish.
@@LUckybones25 Thanks, Chuck!
Why do you sometimes use a hock, and sometimes use a pan even with the same knife?
Hi Ben! On the inside 3way corners do you overlap the tape each way on the corner???
Instead of ripping the sponge edge can you just get a scissor and cut it?
