Its not that hard.. but a lot of work. I could even do it on a shaky camping table in a parking lot where a baker, that does not speak the same language as i do, teached it to me.
My Mom made these once in a while. I remember one time it was all we had, along with flour/water gravy. We were poor. But she didn't roll them out. They were light and fluffy, but not flaky...I guess all the rolling makes them flaky. All I know is we kids were hungry so she fed us! We called them flitters.

I was only thinking that I can buy six in a pack from the bakery department in my local supermarket. I wouldn't have the patience or skill to make these myself.
My grandmother used to make something very similar to these. Only, she used a thin batter & poured it into a pan. In our house, we called them pancakes. (She was a mother of 5 during the Depression) I never knew that pancakes were supposed to be thick & still have to have mine crepe-like. These look like they'd be really good too. I'll have to give them a try.😊🐾
same here thats the way i do it. sometimes i call it crepes when i add something sweet to it or i call it circle things lol we been doing it for decades not things hand rolling dough thingy.
@Rob Ert The term "Pan cake" is extremely broad and means different things to different people. In some parts of America they are thin like crepes, and in others they are thinker almost like biscuits. America has never really been a monoculture.

Your rolling out technique is amazing, not sure I'd get in that thin, love your rolling pin, you have a talent with that rolling pin and the thinness of the dough very impressive.
there are basically four types of cooking/baking rolling-pins... the thin one is called a noodle-pin if you're interested in finding one, though the one used may have been self-made..?..
We call these flour tortillas here in Texas. My favorite. But none of the rolling out and spiraling....just roll out and flop on the griddle! Hot butter and you're good to go!
@@davidlastname1315 Rolling/spiraling makes layers in the final product. These will flake a lot more than a flour tortilla. Think biscuit/croissant vs plain old dinner roll.
The rolling out creates many layers and the texture turns out so different than a tortilla that is only rolled out once. I've seen many different cultures making the same bread product but they are called by different names. They could be used for tortillas if you want to.

I'm pretty sure many subsequent civilizations gained their flatbread recipes from the spreading of civilization, agriculture and wheat seeds from the middle east.
@@whisky3k I don't think Dirt Heads from the Mid East taught Eskimos, Europeans or American Indians how to make bread. Mesopotamia & The Sumerians invented a lot of things - but they do not get all the credit.

Wow

Watching your videos it is apparent that you are very skilled. Looking at the bread, it looks light and flaky and delicious. Although I'm not as skilled as you, I'm going to have to try to make your recipes because they look so good. Thanks for sharing your talent with us.
They say a glass and a 1/2 of water but what size are the glasses and what if you don't have rolling pins like that what do you use?

Locals used to make this for me in Oman, it is one of my favorites, I haven't had it in over a decade, will have to make it for myself now :)
Simple, delicious, time consuming and requires great dough handling skills!
I was only thinking that I can buy six in a pack from the bakery department in my local supermarket. I wouldn't have the patience or skill to make these myself.

Make the dough way too thick, unless yours is adjustable
@@astronemir You can adjust the settings to make it super thin.
Its called roti canai and in malaysia we usually 'tebar' the dough before cooking it.. its much more time saving but need some skills to do so..
Pancakes is different. It usually has eggs and made from a batter.
@Rob Ert Thicker pancakes are more common in the states and Japan. In Europe thinner pancakes are more common.
@Rob Ert Mine was a reply to Rob, like it says in the tag. He apparently doesn't

Your rolling out technique is amazing, not sure I'd get in that thin, love your rolling pin, you have a talent with that rolling pin and the thinness of the dough very impressive.
Absolutely agree. It’s made to look so simple but I’m sure the reality is far from it. I’m just imagining the mess I’d be making of it, haha.
there are basically four types of cooking/baking rolling-pins... the thin one is called a noodle-pin if you're interested in finding one, though the one used may have been self-made..?..
Use warm water too to get a glutinous stretch, it’s light and airy. Chinese do this too with green onions, it’s called tsung yu bing
The rolling out creates many layers and the texture turns out so different than a tortilla that is only rolled out once. I've seen many different cultures making the same bread product but they are called by different names. They could be used for tortillas if you want to.
in Singapore and in Malaysia we call these roti prata
I’m from the northern part of Mexico. My mom and I make flour tortillas often. I would not compare these to flour tortillas. I sure would like to make some and try them, they look delicious!!!

Oh i missed this so much, when i was in Singapore! It called Roti Prata🙂 im surprise how simple it is but taste yummy
Prata is much more simple. They use their hand to toss and flip the dough until it’s flattened.
What do you eat it with?
Miam !!
THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS RECIPE, IT TAKES A LITTLE BIT OF TIME BUT IT WORTH IT!!!!😋😋😋
