If they had taught History in school the same way you 'waffle', Alex, it would have been far more interesting! I'm still learning: that Romans had a heck of a lot of Emperors, and that they were careless with their money, leaving it lying about all over the place. Or does that perhaps indicate that they had holes in their pockets?
They had a heck of a lot of Emperors who like producing a heck of a lot of coins it always amazes me even if the Emperor was only around for a matter of months how many different coins they managed to produce with different heads in different reverses, Extraordinary and I'm glad they had holes in their pockets! Indeed get the kids away from dusty old history books and out into a dusty old field and their imagination of people long gone will be sparked when they hold a coin that was last held so long ago

Cracking little site that, Alex, and there's surely much more to come. Interesting factoid: your sestertius, like so many, is square-ish and this is because one method of production was to cast a strip of bronze, cut bits off, then stamp them.

Hi Alexander, get yourself the Evolution Pro Cut spade - you won't regret it. I got myself one and they are fantastic - you'll find it far easier to dig the dry soil. I'd never have managed to detect my permissions through the summer without mine.

I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for taking the time to create them. I realize how incredibly time consuming it is to create them but the end product is amazing. There is a remarkable improvement in quality in 2022! I like the stationary two camera perspective instead of POV. And of course Tasci is a wonderful addition! What really comes across is your love of the hobby and that resonates well. I currently use an XP Deus and will definitely try the hot program now that I have seen you use it effectively. Looking forward to new episodes and incredible finds for this fall! Keep swinging!

Hi Alex. I can count on 3 fingers 😀 where over my entire detecting carer I landed on what could be described as a compact Roman sight, lots of little bronze Romans. It gets the juices flowing wondering what the next signal will bring. 🙂. Looking forward to see what comes off next time. 🙂. I agree the jewellery artefact at the end is a ring. HH from up North. 🙂.

I spend my hours actually looking for hammered coins but like you Roman is my favourite era ,I love to research the emperors or whoever’s coin I find 👍

Hi Alexander and thank you once more for a splendid day on your Roman site - also interesting to note what lengths you go to regarding camera positioning and wind noise etc, to produce these video's for us, probably takes you longer to set up and edit these videos's than it does actually detecting!!

That site is going to keep you very busy for many years to come, quite surprised the archeologists have not done surveys in that vicinity, as obviously a villa or more there?

Thanks bodger, I am quite quick at setting up these days but it does mean i don't do so many "live" digs as it would just take up too much time and I am not going to get a "chest cam" I'm afraid!!!! I don't mind the minor palava either as its more fun putting a film together with more angles and hopefully it keeps the viewer a bit more interested... albeit possibly subconsciously...! Its interesting but I am looking at all sorts of tv and film with completely different eyes since i have been teaching myself to try and emulate it! Hope all well!!!!

I find so much samian rooftilles and other pottery on one field of mine but nog this many romans maybe 20 max on a day

asses and sestercius have no radiate head, and dupondius have radiate head (from Vespasian onward), here in France they are in majority blanks as well, having circulated so many decades. Here in France we have a lot of cut half dupondius too

Brilliant day Alexander I do wonder sometimes how much the coins would buy in times gone by what value the coins were worth back in ancient times. I have a pin pointer now getting there and I’ve been dragging it along the field whilst walk and low and behold I found a port hole amazing lol but no Roman coins yet. 🥴

Besides your own personal affection to the coins, do they carry much value if any to sell on?
Gosh, tricky question United99 they can be worth next to nothing to hundreds of pounds it's all depends on the rarity of the coin etc the bronze ones don't tend to have much value but as I said rare ones will make a lot of money...

We have now, Thank you Cyndye; date range at the moment is between 150, or thereabouts, A.D. to about 330 A.D. and yes there's lots of rain we going to start complaining about how much soon you mark my words! Hope all well over there X

@@HolzHammerSagas Hey Alexander! I havent detected since the 1970's. A little messed up from service in Vietnam and at this point, I'm pretty well disabled and housebound. I live vicariously through your expeditions, my friend! Keep them coming!!! 😃 When I did detect it was at old railroad stations from the 1880's around here. A lot of older Chinese thngs from the building of the railroads.
Hi Alex l have just purchased the Nox 800 , l realise you have not got this detector but hope you can help, l do not wish to use the bulky headphones supplied,however it came with the wm08 wireless module. I hope to use via the jack point wired earbuds l notice perhaps that you use the same perhaps l am wrong,anyway the question is what quality earbud should l use obviously l want to keep the price down if l can get away with it, but want them to perform. Do you think you have a scattered hoard? Are the coins close together?
It's possible Barbara but when you've got somewhere which may have been used by the Romans for possibly over 250 years you're going to get lots of coins like that in an area and there was quite a range of years in those coins - Faustina is mid second century and the Constantines mid 4th century so I'm guessing it's just occupation rather than hoards but you never know! Hi Alex. Yes, another great video but your "I can't dig, the ground it's much too hard"... Alex; that bl**dy spade of yours! Because it doesn't dig straight down your energy is being dissipated by about 50%. I know you are used to that spade, I know it's lightweight but surely to make digging so much easier it is worth just a bit more spade weight? It's not easy abandoning old tools, I know it's not but you are tiring me out😓

Colin I know you are right but I don't want to dig concrete with any spade!!!! I am 51 years old and life is too short I will wait til its nice and soft and I can get through it with a teaspoon! I will use whatever spade you suggest as long as it doesn't weigh any more than my current one I do a LOT of walking to and from fields and my style is to cover ground fast ( wether that is good or bad is for another time!!!!) so I await your advice send me a link! Rant over and all the best!!!!

I know I am over-pushing this but I watched the vid and now I think, "well if you are going to tackle hard ground like that you need the right tool for the job".
I got on my soapbox on the detecting hub on Thu Aug 11, 2022 12:53 pm saying You know, this subject has made me wonder just what kind of spade you all use. How about we photograph our spades and comment on their design good or bad? I will nip into the garden later on and photograph mine if there is an interest in this subject. ( I did show a pic of my spade there).
I daren't suggest you jump to a spade as heavy as mine that has probably been dragged more miles than most folk's cars but I hope you find something that is going to drive straight down and the right weight. I will try and keep quiet now Alex.
