  • Hello my lovelies,
    who were the Vanyar elves, what Vanyar elves do we actually know and why do we actually know so little of them? This video will try to explain Tolkien's reasons for keeping them this mysterious and tell their backstory - well, everything I could find .
    The next video will be about the Noldor elves - enjoy!
    You should definitely check out the general video on the awakening of the elves and the Great Journey West, it adds to this one:

      Hi Helen! I hope all is well with you and your family. I was just noticing that some of my favorite Tolkien UA-camrs haven't been uploading videos. Hopefully, you can get back to making your wonderful videos.🙏👍😁

    I've always preferred the Vanyar, because theirs is a story of grace and beauty, they live in Arda but they didn't let Arda blemish them, they chose to elevate themselves through wisdom and song.

    Don't forget one thing regarding the Vaniar. It is because they loved poetry and singing so much that they're the fearsome of all the 3 races of the Calaquendi, cause the power of songs is the greatest weapon in Tolkien's Universe, both in the Ainulindale, Ea and inside Arda. Singing creation and destruction is a power beyond the lenght of any physical object, like the weapons of Noldor. So an army of Vaniar elves, capable of weaponizing songs, through forged weapons made by Aule the Smith puts them above any other army of elves, men or dwarves. If Galadriel could do the things she did with just some words, imagine what a Vaniar host, armed by the Valar could do 😏

    Vanyar Elves are interesting, even if they didn't do crap. I think thats because we all want to live our life like them, never aging, staying among angels and god, always singing and dancing and loving, and no tension of exams (ofcourse, the last one have a special place on my list for afterlife😅)

      Didn't do crap? My dude they sank an entire continent first in blood and then in water over some shiny rocks, that's far from not doing anything, plus the Vanyar in specific came down like a storm to put everyone back in their place once things got too put of hand.

      @@leonardomarquesbellini elves did alot, i know, but vanyars didnt do anything other than fighting in war of wraith, just name few more specific things that they did, they're too close to nature to take too much actions in my opinion.

      @@monitor-mindtheover-void6712 "just name something they did other than to crush the greatest evil the world had ever seen and end a terrible war that ravaged Middle-earth's greatest kingdoms and brought misery to untold thousands, maybe millions". If that's not enough then perhaps remember that they did the one thing the author himself valued above all else: never fell out of God's path, being rewarded with the most happiness and glory for it.

    You say that all the Vanyar and Noldor went to Aman. I have not re-read the SIlmarillion for a while but as I recall it said all the Vanyar went and "well-nigh" (almost) all the Noldor went, but not all.

    its very interesting and strange how the Vanyar (the "Light Elves") and the Avari (the "Dark Elves") -- likely based off the light and dark elves of norse mythology -- are the only two group of elves (aside from the Green Elves) that are barley talked about in Tolkien's works.

    Yeah, I was reading about this topic a few weeks back. Not much that I could find, so this was a treat. Conjecture is unfortunately what we seem to have to work with, but I happen to enjoy theory craft.

    the topic of the skills of 1/4 vanyars like Finrod and Galadriel - respectively - song duel with Sauron and the destruction of Dol Guldur(= Luthien & Tol-in-Gaurhoth) to name possibly the greatest. Maybe some of these skills come from the vanyar heritage and the closeness with Manwe, just like Aule and Ulmo teach the other two clans. Vanyars song magicians, Noldor magic crafters, Teleri hmmm Shipbuilders, sailers and nobility for the wood elves :)

      What about some concept fiction if there were other clans or individuals like Celegorm and Orome, closely related with other Valars. Do you remember of other examples or concepts?

    • @leonardomarquesbellini
      @leonardomarquesbellini 2 роки тому

      Almost the same wisdom as the Ainur from the looks of it, but their different perspective certainly gave them a different outlook that the Ainur could only hope to grasp after a long time, like Gandalf's fondness of simple people and specially hobbits.
