Lee J. Cobb who played the role of Willy in the 1949 Broadway production is wonderful in this scene. His body language expresses so well the sense of regret and disillusionment as listen's to Bernard's comments. It is certainly very fortunate that his performance has been preserved on film, as well as that of Mildred Dunnock who played Linda in the 1949 production.
Wow, never knew Wilder played Bernard. I love this play! I've seen the Dustin Hoffman version so often that my image of Willy is a bit of a maniac. This is much restrained compared to that film, which is a nice take on the play. RIP Gene Wilder.
So weird seeing Cobb here in 1967 basically looking just a few years older than he did 10 years earlier in 12 ANGRY MEN. In THE EXORCIST, he looks like he aged damn near 30 years in just 6. He died of a heart attack in '76 so his health must have deteriorated rapidly.
@@KentuckyBrad I don't think so. The makeup is good but not good enough to make him look as emaciated in the face as he does. I think his health was in more rapid decline at that point.

Lee Cobb once stated that he could never form an objective opinion about Willy Loman because of his deep attachment to the role.
Gene Wilder was so versatile! Such a legend!
Thanks for uploading this! Great to see Wilder performing Salesman :)
Great acting!! He can't admit it to himself that he is responsible for Biff.

Amazingggg
Chubby cheeks. Love Gene.
Moral of this play is, if you cheat your wife don't let your children know!
