Had a visit to my girlfriend's relatives in KC, turns out her uncle REALLY likes bourbon. I used all the training I learned from Rex, and managed to mooch myself some Blantons, Eagle Rare, 1792 Full Proof, and Weller 107. It was a good night.

I don't really drink bourbon neat, although I love it in cocktails. When they talk about bourbons I don't know anything about these names and don't really pay attention too much. I'm just into scotch and I like Irish but don't drink it.

Did you really just say “bourbon equivalent to Scotch?????” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 high end scotches are single malts, meaning distilled and bottled at a single distillery using a mash made up entirely of malted barley. Bourbon has to be at least 51% corn. Most bourbons are around 75% corn. Some are as low as 60 while others are as high as 80-84. Apples and oranges there buddy.

Green spot, to me, is the whiskey preventing me from becoming a snob.
40% abv, coloured, filtered, NAS, mass produced. It really, in nerdyness, loses out on 90% of my whisk(e)ys. But I still enjoy it, so freaking much. Theres a complexity and depth to it that matches a lot of my favorites. Heck, it IS one of my favorites.

I was just drinking eagle rare this week. Not too bad to find in my region for about 30 bucks. The one I had was a barrel pick from my local store.

@@jonfelker2075 Oregon. All liquor is state price controlled, so you get everything for MSRP, with rotating sale pricing.
ER is always 30, Buffalo Trace is always on the shelves in the low 20s, Rare Breed is always like 40-45 depending on if it is on sale.

I like how I have Buffalo Trace, Angel's Envy and Redbreast 12 on hand, recently ran out of Woodford double oaked and Highland Park 12 (think I prefer the 10, maybe my memory is messing with me). And Ardbeg 10... New comer to the channel, so nice to know I'm on the right track.

Sipping on a Buffalo Trace while watching this. Crazy to see the hype behind it in the US considering it's available in pretty much every bottleshop everywhere here in Australia for $55AUD ($40USD). Remembering that alcohol taxes here have a 700mL bottle of Smirnoff going for only $15 less than that..

I buy Buffalo Trace all the time, but I never knew it was a high demand whiskey lol. I bought it on a whim last year and loved it. Though it's been a while, as I found I actually prefer Rye over bourbon

Love the woodford double oaked as a whiskey noob! Going higher in proof actually gave me way more flavor than I usually find in the 40 proof whiskeys I tend to buy, while being surprisingly easy to drink. Love the videos!

While I do agree WT101 is amazing and one of my favorites I do feel it's abit to strong if I was going to give a friend a neat try for the first time. I personally prefer Buffalo Trace and feel it's more friendly. I can't say it's very hyped in my area but the bottle is locked and needs to be opened at counter and I got the last one. But I can't say it's never been on the shelf when I have looked.

Where I live you can occasionally get Wild Turkey 101 on sale for $19 and change...that makes it a screaming good deal. I always buy a few extra bottles to tuck away.

Wild Turkey 101 is the GOAT. Great cost point, 101 proof that is still smooth, stands up perfectly neat, on the rocks, and in any cocktail you can make without dominating the other ingredients and flavors involved.

In this category, most Compass Box bottlings would do wonderfully (I'm especially partial to Spice Tree). Also: less well known, but good bang for the buck Highland whiskies like Deanston 12 and Speysides like Glenallachie.

I think Weller's is a good one for this. Also McAllen 12 year double cask, it's approachable to bourbon drinkers because there isn't that strong peat, but won't leave scotch drinkers upset in the least

Can you help. I had a local distiller tell me that, other than the micro distilleries most large distillers are adding products to their whiskey to up the flavors such as wood tannins, cinnamon, coloring,, and different flavors that we get from whiskey. They are doing such without disclosing the additions because of the lower, legally allowed percentages. Is that true? Is there anyway to find out?

    • @prestonlopez9608
      @prestonlopez9608 3 роки тому

That is most definitely false unless they are intentionally trying to make a flavored product. If they're rectifying their whiskey then they should be prepared to face exorbitant fines and/or even be shut down by the Tax and Trade Bureau. The federal government takes American whiskey very seriously because it's a huge source of revenue for them and they're keen on enforcing strict whiskey laws
