Been good! This non flippy screen on my a7iii is driving me insane! Having to run that ninja v makes me crazy every time I have to use that micro hdmi lol! That being said I haven’t found the nerve to start a channel so I guess it isn’t that big of a deal hahaha! Thanks so much for the content!

      @ruthlesskid24 4 роки тому

@@alirakhaMusic I am in the same boat as Mimi frank, Sony is known to fill niches. The A7C is one year too late, would've paid USD1800 @2019 Christmas. Literally, oneone I know is buying new bodies just to get marginal upgrades over something that is already comparable and cheaper *cough A7III. This camera does get some people excited, however those same people(me) will not spend money, in the current climate.

    • @professionalpotato4764

It might take a while. There's no merit for Sony to release the A7iv right now. Covid, postponing of olympics, and most importantly. Nothing else competes with Sony in where it's positioned now. A hybrid shooting camera that's reliable. The jack of all trades, master of none group.
The R6 overheats, the Z6ii is close but nowhere near threatening, S5 is packed featurewise, but requires experience manual focus users. If Sony behaves like they did for the A7Siii, they will wait for Canon or Nikon to drop the next flagship (that doesn't suck) before coming out with a counter.

Advice: Motivation is not the answer Vong. If you want the motivation before you start, you will never start! Motivation only comes when you starts to gain the benefits on what you are doing, maybe getting money, passing an exam etc etc. Instead, try to sort your priorities one by one and do it by chunk (maybe right it in a piece of paper). Hope you get back to your standard routine and I hope you are no longer burnout! Greetings from Malaysia

I think you’ve been the most positive person about this camera.
Everybody else has talked about it being a year or two too late, especially with it’s feature set.
A lot of people have also pointed out how it really isn’t that compact and that much smaller than the a7iii.
Seems like an interesting path to go down for the company, especially if they’re guiding it toward the vlogging market, and how much Sony has been directing its cameras to video creators more than stills shooters this year.

  • @twentyfifthjt7888
    @twentyfifthjt7888 4 роки тому +1

I love the rangefinder form factor & I hate the bump on top of the A7iii... but I hate the A7C so much more.
    This camera is a misstep.
•An A7iii with one less card slot for just $200 less.
•An A6600-sized body with a FF sensor & a dedicated compensation dial but with 3 LESS CUSTOM BUTTONS... for $300 more.
It even has 2 less custom buttons than a A6400/A6300/A6100/A6000... let that sink in.
They didn't even sweeten the deal by providing already available SOFTWARE in the form of Electronic Stabilization & the New Menu. What gives?
I'm not giving it points for a flip screen it should have had 2 years prior & 2 APSC bodies already have.
The only reason for this to exist with its set of features & pricepoint is to justify keeping the obviously better A7iii at $2000 so they can jack-up the A7IV into $2199-2499 territory & making this (A7C) accessible to those who are APSC users due to budget reasons, knowing that they will accumulate FF lenses over time anyway.
A FF Sensor in an APSC Body with a ZV-1 level customizability & ease of use.
This is a stupid camera... but it is a marketing intelligence flex by our reptilian overlords. GG.

@@JapanLovers Jared's a bit of a jerk, but to be fair his review is more objective and closer to the mark. He actually put an A7iii side by side with this thing and pointed out the elephant in the room - that disregarding the prism, it isn't actually all that much smaller. Plus, the notion that vloggers somehow NEED a FF camera (with all the implications that has for size and expense once you start buying glass) is just ridiculous.

I'm still rocking an A6000, my first and only camera, and this is very tempting. As a solo creator, that flip-out screen is really valuable for what I do and I've always loved the photos/videos from the A7iii. I was really hoping for more custom buttons and a joystick though. The biggest pain point for me will be having to start a brand new lens collection. Glad you got to spend some time playing with this! Thanks for sharing. Cheers

I'm considering getting this camera in November. Currently only using my Samsung S10+ phone. The cost is the biggest obstacle for most people. Sony NZ will sell the a7c kit version for NZ$4,299. The a6600 kit version is NZ$2,998. But the a7c has advantages. (1) 4K 30fps Full Frame No Crop video (2) USB C (3) Flip OUT screen (4) Improved auto focus (5) digital mic hot shoe (6) IBIS not the best but better than nothing (7) Z Battery (8) Can record with no break for a solid 2 hours. Used to own a Sony FDR-AX700 but stability was crap with 4k video recording. Owned a Sony CX-405 but sold that couple of years ago too. Will see if I can take out a loan to cover the cost of this, from my bank ANZ.

Love the camera, and the price is fine. It's the price of switching to full frame lenses that keeps me away. Buying full-frame equivalents to all my APS-C lenses would cost a fortune, even if I sold my used ones to do so.

Sony A6400 + 18-55 f2.8 similar price, more range, better quality, wider aperture compensates the smaller sensor. A73 with thumbstick and 2 men card slots is more appealing.

Re: 8:00, I probably have less info than you do about Sony's internal structure, but I think you're right up to a point. I wouldn't be surprised if the same teams (or shared members) worked on both cameras...
I also think that they were completed around the same time (or maybe the a7c was completed first), but they probably decided to release the a7s3 at the time they did because they wanted to try to slow down or squash any potential momentum they were speculating the Canon r5 might've gotten. I'm guessing the a7c reached an economic point-of-no-return to put it back in the workshop and improve it. Like if mass production was already well on its way or contracts were too expensive to alter to upgrade the a7c before it was released.
Anyway, glad to see you back! I hope you're able to improve on your work/life balance. I myself am also on a work break and I'm on my fifth month myself.

I think its a flop, i would rather buy a second sony A7III. 4k 60fps and 10bit is a must have since 2018 dear sony! The price is way to high for what it is, it should rather be in the 1000-1200 range and the apsc cams should be really in a amateur price range. Now see what the sony A7IV for us hybrid shooters can offer. Glad to have you back jason! Health first youtube second my friend

I think if you own a a73, keep it and move on with your life, and buy the a7s3 as soon as you can. If you are going for the a7s3 as your first then the a7C is a nice B cam, especially since its lighter and smaller, so you can keep it in the bag without issues.

Jason, I have been watching your videos for a few years, and I enjoy what you do, and I hope that in this tricky covid time, you can find whatever sort of emotional stability and personal social habits you need. I think you can do it because you are a person that is able to focus yourself when required. I also think that like me, you are self-aware enough that if you are hyper-focusing and making yourself anxious, you can think your way out of that even when it isn't automatic or easy. You have the wisdom to see the big picture.
About the 7c, I dreamed of a full frame range finder styled form factor for ten years, and Leica gave us that with the M8 before that, but it was too expensive. At this point, with a collection of Sony E aps-c lenses, I am less tempted to buy Sony's finally smaller full frame camera. Over the years, I have learned why the digital sensors need more rectilinear light paths that make the lenses larger, but for an aps-c sensor, the size for a super quality lens with the now available aspheric and ed lens elements will always be smaller. The point is that Sony can try to satisfy all of us that have dreamed to have a full frame camera in a small form factor, but not by charging $1800 (which will come down), but more the problem is that the super quality lenses are too expensive. Sony is not going to make a great portrait lens for full frame that is anywhere near the size and quality of the Sigma 56 1.4, which is essentially tiny and perfect! My point is that aps-c sony is equal to Sony full frame as long as Signma is making lenses that are fully compatible.

I am shooting full-frame Nikon with lenses 14mm to 400mm but there are times when i miss my old point and shoot for its size but cant compromise on quality of images and ability/room for cropping of the full frame. With cameras going smaller I still miss the absence of a good pancake of wide-angle kind.

No 10Bit is a deal-breaker in late 2020. Fuji XT3 Had it 3 years ago. With large lenses, the portability is compromised. Then might as well wait for the A7IV and hope it gets 10 bit and maybe a 30mp sensor. Then with larger lenses it'll hand hold better anyways and give you a joystick and dual card slots.

New comer here... considering A7C 😅 I'm the kind of person who wants to buy the best I can afford for longevity and was looking at the A6600, but the A7C is only $500 more expensive, so seems like the better choice

Please use this with the Crane M2 and 20 F1.8 . This will be the perfect travel camera. About the channel suggestion. You have a great personality man, and your girlfriend. This personality is perfect for youtube. I always make that peak design v2 video as a great example of your potential. It was informative but fun. And you two looked like you had fun. A gear channel with an actual personality is different and I would religiously watch, just have fun with it.

Question. I have the a7 mark 1. I am looking for a newer hybrid that helps in recording digital courses. But also some b-roll for UA-cam. Plus. Last but not least, therefore hybrid needs, does amazing photography. Again, i’m using a7 mark 1 now. Thank for your input!

As someone who owns the A7lll and shoots with longer/heavier lenses like the 70-200 gm and 200-600g more often then not, having the bigger grip and ability to take the sony battery grip matters to me . I think it should have also been closer to $1500. It it was $1500 combine that with some of the pancake primes from Samyang and would have been a slam dunk.

i think its because spec and pricing strategy, because if new menu and 4k 60fps capability added to a7c, its can make a7iii spec is weird

So nice seeing you back! You're one of the youtubers that really helped me understand photography and get into it. But take your time to getting back into the youtube grind man. Your health and happiness are way more important than making videos. Stay safe, prioritize your mental health, we'll be here when you're back :)

Glad you’re doing better and I think having a dialogue towards the end of the video is a great idea. I’ve slowly cut back on shooting around Pasadena, since the smoke has thickened. Anyway, can’t wait to see that change. 😊

    Dear Jason,
Could you make an episode of A7c with the DJI RSC2. Lot of confusion with video/photo setup it seems. Would really help me make my first vlog setup purchase decision. Thanks.

a7Riv with APSC lenses look killer, would argue that a7Riv (with that killer EDU discount last year) would be better value and versatility.

I wish they didn't strive for "compact" but rather "rangefinder" & just increased the length & width to have more space. That way they can just add all the features of the a7s III but with 20-36mp. I love the rangefinder look but I wish they made it have a leather looking trim with a vintage feel. This just feels like a dumbed down camera. They should let Fuji design the look.

In my mind there is barely no difference in size... I believe Philip Bloom said in his original review of the a7s about its rolling shutter: "I've sort of accepted it when using cameras of this size". So we don't need smaller cameras than the a7 line. They are already small enough. And if you buy a used a73 or a7R3 you get more camer for the same price with just a bit of EVF on top. Not that big of a deal for me. Cheers

I wish they would’ve added a second card slot. I need the backup for the kind of work I do. Looks like I’ll be waiting for the A7iv. Maybe I’ll get it as a travel camera and slap a 35mm on there. Lol my wife’s going to kill me.
