My favorite video of yours yet! Love all the banter and views. And Lynnden is growing SO FAST. This whole series is seriously inspiring -- hopefully we can do an EV trip together one day. Sending (virtual) Kenyan sunshine and tortoises your way xx
Thank you! This was the first one where all the filming happened after we decided we were going to make a series of videos trying to convince people on EV life, so I think we started filming with a little more purpose. And yes, Lynnden is so grown up already. certainly missing you guys and that sunshine!
Watching your road trip series now - great fun! I wish I would have known you were in Denver. We live in southeast Denver and it would have been neat to meet you at a charging station or something.
That stretch of highway in Oregon between Ontario and Bend is incredibly desolate. I've driven it a couple of times in an ICE vehicle and just getting to the small town of Burns felt like a huge relief because there's absolutely nothing for miles and miles. Not even other cars. I don't think I'd chance it with an EV unless Burns had more charging than a single-stall charger.
We wouldn't have chanced it if it wasn't ChargePoint. But they have availability and uptime and availability reporting. So we could see the charger was ready and waiting for us. There are also not a bank of tesla super chargers in Burns. Doesn't do anything for the rest of us, but for the most popular EVs on the road it makes that drive pretty straight forward.
So i’m trying this as I watch you tube on TV. Beautiful scenery. Great video. It’s nice to see Walmart partnering up with Electrify America. I wasn’t a Walmart shopper until I began stopping to charge at Walmart. Clean restroom and great prices. It would be helpful if you could show what the cost per kWh is at each charging stop.
Yup, same here. Wouldn't have imagined going, but then we're there all the time now. Others have asked about charging costs too, I'll see if can get content together for a video on different rates in places
Thanks for the insight. I'm from Jamaica, EV market here definitely growing. Just out of curiosity, what's the total amount you guys paid just for charging. Would be really interesting to compare the amount to an average gas price for that trip
We really didn't track of how much the charging was, but we only had to pay for 5 of those charges - so I'd guess something like $75. I detailed a bit on how charging costs break down in this video: ua-cam.com/video/huq1ij_ucl0/v-deo.html
It's a small plug that converts a tesla level 2 charger to plug into CCS. So it allows for plugging into hotels or homes where people have put in a tesla plug, but not at the Tesla level 3 chargers. It's something like this: evadept.com/tesla-supercharger-to-ccs-adapter-guide/

the ice you are talking about is called hoar frost. love, your resident northern snow and ice expert.
nice! really cool stuff huh? The lady at the local chamber of commerce said it had been on the trees for 3 days by the time we rolled through
hoar frost is really neat! There are some places that get so many layers of hoar frost that it turns trees into what are called Snow Ghosts.

Oh man! We really should have looked up local Mach-E groups in the areas, that would have been fun. That's a good nudge to do that going forward!

How did the BlueCruise or Pilot360 work in the icy conditions?
worked perfectly. never had any blue cruise issues
Tell me about the tesla adaptor. My mach-e won't be in for several months but I would feel a lot better using a tesla charger

How much did you spend on the charging on that trip?
