Honestly, the dress looked yellow to me, not white. I had no idea what the cousin's issue w it would be until she held up the paper and said they weren't the same colour, and suddenly at that point the dress looked more cream and less yellow. But $3k for a dress just to be a guest at a wedding is kind of a problem, regardless of the colour of the dress.

I had a friend that saved up for college and attended one out of state. She had a joint bank account with her mom, and the second semester she was there, her mom drained her account, forcing her to come home.
When I saw her after she had come back and she told me what happened, I was so livid on her behalf. My parents paid for my college and refused to let me pay for myself, and I've always been so grateful to them for that. I can't imagine why a parent would steal from their kids like that. Makes them really shitty, and she went no-contact with her mom a couple of years after that and moved out as soon as she could. I don't blame her one bit.

I won’t say, what my daughter had to do, to make ends met.

Charlotte, the 2nd story shouldn't have to split it. She shouldn't have to share it at all. That money was for a specific purpose. The aunt set it up to counter the mysogny in their culture and the family not only ignored her wishes, but stole the money to perpetuate the mysogny of valuing men over women. Exactly $0 should have gone to his wedding from that account

    • @AnaHaze777

Exactly! I was so confused when she said that lol. Why would she split it?
But I'm sure reading all these stories it's kind of hard to keep up with all the details , it seemed like a lot of details that were said she forgot about. So I'm assuming she didn't realize that the whole reason for it is because the men are favored in their culture. They are already getting everything paid for, they don't need any extra help like the women do.

About the second story… I have a feeling that it was an Eastern Asian family. My reasoning for this, is because in their culture they take great pride in their sons. The family of the son pays for the wedding and those weddings are extremely expensive and lavish. So yes, the daughter has every right to sue, and that is the reason the great aunt set up that trust.

My mom and stepdad started buying multiple big rig motor homes, Traveling more, buying cars like they were from the dollar store. Found out she spent her trust then went into mine and my sisters. Plus there was a note in the trust to pay for my niece’s college. Mom denied that, Well mom done spent it. And forged our names to do it. @@katz734My mother was similar. The college funds she stole from me and my brother weren’t a whole lot, but enough that she bought a house that was WAY bigger than we needed. Didn’t even have furniture for half the rooms in it.
I ended up having to work my way through community college and pay for my degree out of my own pocket.
Even when I was a kid, if I had babysitting money or money from my birthday or Christmas, I used to have to hide it _really_ well or else my mother would steal it while I was at school or asleep.
Same as you, I think I have empathy for people because my mother was so unempathetic.

I suspect the family in question are Indian. Indian weddings are huge affairs and the male child/children are seen as benefactors and expected to take care of the parents along with the new wife. The weddings can last days and no expense is spared as the parents literally see it as investing in their future.
I don't think a 2nd thought was given to the daughter and the parents saw that money as their own.

Omg the second one got me IMMEDIATELY invested because I am thinking about doing the same myself!
My grandparents would give my sisters and I money to go towards college when we became adults. Long story short, I didn't take the "standard" route and immediately sign up for college when I graduated (I am the oldest). Instead I escaped the clutches of my awful parents and did some traveling, ran amuck for a while, and just did my own thing.
My sisters went to college, and my parents paid for things like phone bills, car insurance, buying them cars, allowing my sisters to live with them rent free after they turned 18 (which was not an option available to me). I never asked for anything, because I wanted to prove to them that I could do it on my own.
Fast forward a few years, and I wanted to know what my college funds looked like so I could look into higher education. When I asked my dad how much money was in my account, he got real cagey about it and insisted that I just tell him what I wanted to take and where, and he would let me know if I was able to afford it. That didn't make much sense to me, but I knew hey had some kind of hold on my money, to where I couldn't access it myself without their signature until I was 14 or 25, which was weird, but I dropped the issue because I wasn't able to get a direct answer.
Years later, im living across the country, homeless, about to have my first born child. I was desperately looking for a car, a place to live, etc. I asked my dad about the money, and he "admitted" to me that "the IRS seized the money due to back taxes", and that there was no money anymore. This was a few years after my mom bought a restaurant. No apology, no explanation, no offers to pay it back to me in any way.
Honestly I know I probably won't ever see that money but I want the truth about it. I was the only child to not get my ~$15,000 in college money, or any other help, and the story he told me is completely insane, and I want to see the physical proof of their claims and to hold them accountable for their actions and failures, and have been thinking of suing to achieve this.

@@M_SC it is my money. It was given to ME, as a gift, every year from my grandparents. I was obviously unable to drive to the bank, open an account, and deposit it into the account as a five year old, so I would hand the check in my name to my parents after I opened the card it came in. I was told explicitly many times that it was my money, put in an account with my name on it, under my parents control. I don't know where you got the idea that somehow it wasn't mine. It couldn't have been made more clear. Even when my dad had no more excuses and I asked directly where it went, he said my money was gone.
I know I may sound very defensive in this, and to be honest it's a very triggering subject as it's a deep betrayal wound, so it does stir up intense emotions within me. And to come in and say that it wasn't mine..like, no one even in my family has ever disputed the fact that it was mine, just like my sisters' college money was theirs, and they were able to access and use theirs. The story with the college money is extra infuriating because OP said that not only did they used her college money, but also her sister’s money to pay for her brother’s wedding. Which also means that if those accounts had enough money for OP to graduate from an American university without debt (and I’m going to guess paying International student tuition based on how she said all her friends are Americans) those accounts had to be around at least 200k. So with using those 2 accounts, they spent almost HALF A MILLION DOLLARS!!!! On a wedding that wasn’t for either of them. And while yes OP’s sister didn’t want to use the money for college, she also couldn’t use it for her own wedding either. Just sad all around. He never finished anything and my sister and I were never allowed to do any paid activities because, "We just can't afford it at the moment." He was so spoiled it actually ruined his adult life. He got the most expensive x-mas presents and parties for his birthday every year. I have NEVER had a birthday party to this day and I was so excited to receive a dump bike for x-mas one year. A dump bike is when your parents go the dump and use a few different bikes to create a Frankenstein set of wheels. I never envy and have never been jealous of anything or anyone in my life. The old lady trying to pay her nieces and grand-nieces way through college resonates. Not because of the drama the one Charlotte talked about had, but because some people are just genuinly good. And the cause is better than any. My 4x great-aunt struck rich in USA in the 19th century as a young woman, being known for acting fierceful and self-dependent, and understanding the settings she was in instantly. She partly took pay in stock at Macy's department store starting as a cashier, learned how to keep the books in check through the years (got a helliva CV), and cashed out after 13 years, rich as a mf.
Her heritance was very specific about the equation between what's ment for the farm she grew up on, when it's ment to be spent, and the majority to be spread thin over generations. Covering costs of being a student for so so many young women to this day. Well, sorta, the well is dry now 😅 She started spreading the joy when she sat foot on shore here, to be thruthful. It was always about building a future, and it still is.
When she came back to the auld quarry of a country we're from in 1888, she spat money into the important things right away: A crazy lump of money to be used on her room at the farm (equal to $815k now), as well as a promise of her being taken care of when she got old. Her father then used that money on the best plow/sower/horse/new giant barn, and refurbished the entire building mass on the farm. She spent big bucks on a retirement home she ran until she got to old, she got one of the first jobs in the goverment aviable for women (accounting, you knew that), she refused to marry because the laws said a husband has the rights to his wifes wealth. She only had a "companionship", not partner, in her adult life. 20 years before anyone cared about women's rights, she was breaking barriers.

@@huchlvr Alternatively, as she had been dating his twin she already had a level of trust/ friendship in place that made the brother an understandable candidate for a relationship.
I'd be careful about jumping to the worst conclusion first. After all, if the brothers were close she's probably interacted socially with twin 2 many times over the 2 year relationship with his brother. She probably knows him well, has at least some attraction to him physically (they are identical twins obviously) and may well of turned to him for support when his brother left.

I have a somewhat similar story to #2. I have been working since I was 14 and once I started working, my parents made me pay for most of everything that I personally needed. They covered groceries and that kind of stuff but most everything else was my responsibility. Despite this, I knew I wanted to move out the first second i could so I saved a lot and by the time I turned 18, I had about 10K. This was 20 years ago, so it was a decent nest egg for an 18 year old. My parents also said they were giving me 5K as a graduation present. So, I end up moving out on my 18th birthday and I move into a new place with a friend's mom. A few days later, I end up going to withdraw money and I can't. I go to the bank and find my account close to completely drained. I can't remember the exact amount but my acct had under $500 left in it. My parents still had access to my bank account so they just went in and took it without telling me. My parents made 6 figures most of my upbringing and my mom recently had a lesser paying job but they weren't poor by any means. But, they were bad with money and sometimes didnt have enough for unexpected events. When I confronted them, they told me they needed it and that they would pay me back plus the 5K they promised me. That never happened and I don't talk to either of them anymore.

To the absolute worst wedding I was ever hired to sing at and I stopped a likely fire, lost it on the brides daughter, wasn't paid (that wasnt the deal - instead was given a Timmies gift card!) The story of parents stealing the money and blaming the daughter for “embarrassing the family” is very hard to hear. In extreme cases, this is the same mentality that allows predators to get away because the family doesn’t want to be embarrassed. As a person who comes from a Latino and Asian community, where reputation and males have importance , this happens way to often. Ladies, you are not embarrassing your culture or family. They are embarrassing themselves for not protecting and valuing each member equally. If need be, separate from them and practice your culture with chosen family.

Hearing that last story made me want to spill a very dark family secret that I’ve never spoken about to anyone outside of my family. My aunt married a man who had a fraternal twin brother. They were married for 8 years and had a child together. Their marriage ended because she caught him cheating on her with a stripper. Unfortunately she didn’t have a job or any money saved so while she filed for divorce she went to stay with her brother-in-law, and I’m sure you can see where this is going lol. Fast forward a year and she is married to twin #2. They went on to have a child together but the marriage didn’t last because the apple never falls far from the tree. So now she is twice divorced with 2 kids that are brother and sister and also cousins. 2 years ago she calls my dad (her brother) hysterical because the cops had just left her house looking for twin #1. It turns out that he killed 5 people (including his current wife) and was on the run. They finally found him and he confessed to the 5 but also claims to have killed 16 others, although they haven’t been able to substantiate those claims. I know it probably sounds too crazy to be true but you will just have to take my word on it. I am kinda counting on the chance that no one will actually read this since this video is a couple of weeks old. Otherwise I would have never been comfortable to share our family shame.

When we got married, my husband had a conversation with his mother about the way she had treated him for many years (favoritism for his siblings, treating him like a servant, making him do all the chores, taking money from him that he was making, and she was supposed to be saving for him as he was working to get a new car, but using it for his brother) he told her he wanted an apology for the things she had done to him. She said and I quote “I did the best I could, you’re not gonna get an apology. I raised you to be strong” my husband looked at me a week later, asked me to marry him at the courthouse, and within a week we had eloped and have been happily married ever since.
Edit: he asked other family what they thought about us getting married from his fam. All of them told him that we should wait a couple of years so none of them were invited. When we eloped, only my mother was standing in the courthouse with us.

WITH POCKETS!!! I called her from the dressing room with my excitement, and she told me that I better get that dress and that she loved me... Few years ago when my cousin was getting married she told everyone to wear whatever they want, she had a very puffy stark white princess dress so no one would be confused who is the bride anyway. People start bugging us about "not hearing news" from us regarding the wedding (they all recieved an invite though). Annoyed at being told that so often, we ended up dropping a lengthy sarcastic and very detailed response about all the tedious paperwork we were doing to reserve the townhall and the party place. There is a strong possibility that the Aunty most likely moved to the US from the UK after marriage as the extended family were pressuring her to an arranged marriage. So the money for the female relatives would be destroying the generational control. Especially grandad. Also the clear preference for the male heir - that’s not likely to be Chinese or Caribbean communities.
Arranged marriages is still a thing in some Asian communities. If they are Pakistani, then the brother being offended would be a cultural thing, as he would expect to honour his work, but she handled it right demanding a contract otherwise it could be treat as a debt in the community.

Oh girl! My mother in law hosted our small intimate wedding at their home. My husband's parents wanted to pay for most everything as our gift...including my dress. I was fine buying it myself but she insisted. To keep my fiance happy I agreed. This was not my first marriage but it was for him. She insisted on going with me to pick out a dress. She was very vocal that it should be a simpler dress as it was a home wedding. We were looking at several stores and I was also shopping ( I thought) for a dress to leave the reception in. I found a pretty tea length linen cream color dress that I was going to get for the reception. She INSISTED that was going to be my wedding dress. I told her that was just too plain for what I had in mind for my actual wedding dress. This woman goes off saying that I was not getting married in white because it was not proper and it would be embarrassing if I wore a floor length gown. I was hurt but caved because my husband just wanted to keep the peace but I resented it every day. Fast forward 25 years. My husband's younger brother gets married with monetary help from his parents. They have a more lavish lakeside wedding with a lot more guests. My mother in law (of course) offered to help buy the dress and took her son's fiance shopping. They come back (no joke) with a WHITE wedding GOWN (her THIRD marriage) with full long train and long veil to get married on a fishing PIER! I don't think I've ever felt so hurt or demeaned by his family. That's just one of MANY personal jabs I've endured by them though. Funny thing is we've been married over thirty years now & my husband is their only child who hasn't had one or more divorces.

For the Twinuation, I wouldn't be surprised if his brother always had a thing for his ex, especially since he was so willing to overlook that she was with his identical brother for two years before they got together.
Like, he isn't the AH, it's a different level since they are identical, everyone else is the AH who is just going to pretend like it's fine.
I feel for that twin, it seems like that family doesn't really see each of them as their own person and prob has a fave, so they just use the other twin as a stand in. They were probably dressed identical by a parent as children until the one that ended up moving away started to rebel which prob caused friction in the family and that's why they are all ganging up on him. I know I'm reaching, but you wouldn't believe how often that happens in families whether it be twins or not.
Personally, I am with someone who everyone else claims that him and his brother look the same and they get confused for each other a lot by others all the time, and I wouldn't want to be with his brother at all if that sort of situation was to arise. It's just off on so many levels and I don't see how people confuse them.
