This is important. Like really really important. If the whole world adopted this philosophy we would live in a much better world. Thank you Day [9]. And thank you Narwhal for the upload
Great simple explanation of a conversation without argumentative fallacies, I didn't think my opinion of Day[9] could get any higher, but I'm cool with it.
narwhals8mysister You need to see the video on my channel, it is a perfect example of what you are saying, if you know Sky Williams and Kaceytron you should check it out.
+ThexInsidexMan I hope you subebd to his steam www.twitch.tv/day9tv rather than subscribing to this youtube channel since the guy who uploads these videos are just making highlights from Day9TV's stream which I appreciate very much but he's not the creator of this content.
+Rooster Elite Yup! ^ Go sub to Day[9], and you'll be sure to see more great moments like this. I'm just uploading the highlights here so people who don't have time to watch all his full streams can still enjoy these bits.
+narwhals8mysister As I said, i appreciate it vey mich. Because if it wasn't for you I would have to find the actual live streams, to find them again. Ofcourse you can subscribe to this channel aswell. I was very salty yesterday, I'm sorry.... Do you still upload funny little sc2 clips? Like when Day9 used to play SC2. God I miss mondays.
The legal system? How is he describing that? Lawyers try and defeat eachother so that their client wins, and by doing so they are what Day9 calls stupid people, because it's not the truth they seek but proof of them being right? That's just my guess, though, of what you meant, I'm curious to know if I understood you right.
Attila Molnár thats what +stevaye meant. Lawyers are the stupid people who day9 describes. It's their job to be right. Because the law is not straightforward and everyone has their own interpretation of it. But there are also good lawyers who do follow the steps. They start from law x and end in a favourable result through a few steps. However, the opponent would start from law Y and build his case on that to prove he is right.
Might step on a mine here, but i think what he´s talking about is to create a discussion, and not an argument. At least to me, discussions are meant to dig together, whereas an argument is like throwing dirt/feces etc at eachother.
What I got from it was more that people need to bring actual arguments with some substance. In his example the argument was all feeling based, which as you put is throwing dirt/feces. But Day9 was saying an argument should be you present a subject the other person presents counter discussion and it goes from there until the truth is found or all parties are satisfied. A discussion can be whatever and doesn't have to be all parties trying to find some truth. At least that's what I think.
I agree with some of the things you said, but still I don't agree with it fully because no matter how we try to make it stay as morally grey as possible, there will always be two extreme sides headbutting each other at some aspects of the life, politics for example. In that case, you will have to try to "win" over the other side by the merit of your arguments, and possibly convert them to your side.
I'll take someone trying to be right over someone who doesn't care if they're wrong every time. People who don't care about truth are the most frustrating people to speak with; they'll just spew bullshit &, whenever questioned, fall back to "it's just my opinion". You may as well be talking to an 8 ball.
I'm confused by the greenscreen effect in his bedroom. It makes me concerned this might be a dream. Regardless, this is why I never talk about politics, because anyone who wants to talk politics specifically wants to do so in order to win. But, seriously, am I awake? Someone pinch me.
Should you not try your hardest to present your case in the best possible way you can? If I want to put forward my view, it should be in my interest to win, to win and to be right is to have put the effort in. No? If someone isn't truing to be right then they are doing it wrong. In my view
***** I just don't get this unwritten rule that you seem to have that people have to be ok with what ever nonsense someone says because "it's their opinion". As I said on some other video, people sure fear being wrong.
***** We have to jump to some conclusion though right? Knowing the question is nothing without knowing the answer too. If we both agreed to disagree what would that grant us? You can be open to my views but you wouldn't be right unless I thought so since my universe is only what I perceive to be there. So am I right or wrong objectively that people so fight tooth and nail for their world vision? :)
There's a difference in wanting to be right and wanting to win. In some way, everyone wants to be right. However, not everyone can be right all the time. Day9's simply making the point that instead of saying, "I'm right, you're wrong/stupid," you should present facts and logic to support your point and discuss the topic in more depth, not to just outright "win." If you end up winning in the end, fine, but it should be more important to discover the truth.
WMDistraction It should be but it isn't. A rainbow would look great in the sky all the time but it doesn't. I would like to ignore the fact that winning and being right are the same thing but I can't. I live in the real world. What some view as important doesn't mean anything. An empty phrase an empty gesture an empty promise of a world of a life devoid of charge substance subjection subversion without actually realizing that being right and winning holds the same value as the truth. They are both meaningless. So why pick one lie over another?
This is important. Like really really important. If the whole world adopted this philosophy we would live in a much better world. Thank you Day [9]. And thank you Narwhal for the upload
Seriously changing my views on argumentation. Good stuff.

Ahh I love rants like this.
This video is essentially the Steven toulmin model of claim, support, warrant, and backing. Also great video.
He's pretty good at describing the legal system.

wait why are you in a green screen of your own room what
Yay[9]

Why does it feel like there's a greenscreen of his room behind him instead of his room
Day9 explains the Socratic Method xD
What if the person is arguing sumthing like the sky is green and spits fireballs?
This isn't an argument! it's just contradiction!
No it isn't!
I'll take someone trying to be right over someone who doesn't care if they're wrong every time. but, but isn't he doing the exact same thing as atleast 1 of the 2 guys arguing, in this very Video?
Well Day9 let me tell you how you are wrong and how to be right like me...
Except in 2020 when you can just say "thats not my opinion" and that is now fact"
But im not even trying. I AM ALWAYS RIGHT!
Should you not try your hardest to present your case in the best possible way you can? If I want to put forward my view, it should be in my interest to win, to win and to be right is to have put the effort in. No? If someone isn't truing to be right then they are doing it wrong. In my view

You can win and be wrong. It's really easy. They're not the same.
