Heather dreamed of having a skunk ever since she was a child. She then got Toccoa from a rescue group. She made sure she got all the right permits to own her. Toccoa adjusted really quickly to her new home, including befriending Nola, her cat sister. She loves stealing food and playing with toys. Together they are a dynamic team that brings so much joy into everyone's lives.

love that! I got asked to go into a montessori school for a presentation. The children were fascinated and so full of questions. It was fun to share skunk facts and help educate the kids.. and teachers and see all the smiles :)

I had a total of 6 skunks growing up. It was before it was cool . Nearly 50 years ago. They were very friendly and gentle. My friends thought I was crazy. Also had a raccoon and crow.

@Frank they have a very faint smell. Also ,they are very playful. In the winter they wanted to hibernate but they would come out if you brought some food for them.
skunks and possums are for the most part very friendly
Skunks make excellent pets, I even hangout with the wild ones that sit on my porch with me waiting for treats lol ❤️

@@CuddleBuddiesChannel I live in the very southern part of Canada, I live in a very rural area, I grew up with many animals & have spent my life rescuing them all, now I run a small shelter & travel the streets at night looking for any animals that need help. Your channel is wonderful and always makes me smile, there really are angels walking amongst us

@@tbirdpimp07 it is if you were born & raised around animals, I pose no threat & they instinctively sense that, I even handle bees & hornets, cradle injured raccoons in my arms on the way to the wildlife center, mind you my knowledge of animals guarantees I never step out of my bounds & never forget what I’m dealing with & that’s the key

and thank you for liking and commenting :) Yes part of this was in hopes to shed some light on an animal that is so often misinterpreted. They really are very submissive, quiet, gentle, playful, intelligent creatures. Sadly man is one of the very few reasons skunks dont live past 2/3 yrs old in the wild.

I've got to say I never in a gazillion years thought I'd ever see a skunk cuddle up with a cat and take a nap lol. So cute!
My cat is pretty gentle.. she loves to chase lizards and catch them but has never so much made one scratch or mark on one... when I brought Toccoa home she was 6 weeks old... a little kit. So Nola has been with her as she's grown to now be 8 months old! They have their unique way of playing and its cute to watch :)
My skunk would cuddle with my bulldog. But he hated my cat and monkey lol. They would all sleep on the bed with me but the cat and monkey just couldn't sleep too close to the skunk

I had a male skunk I raised from 3 wks old after his mother was hit by car n raised him n loved him very much till the day he passed Away 💔 n yea he was a character n gentle n smart ,I still miss him after 40yrs thanx for thos great memories

I've got 5 babies as we speak. Lost their mom so I've been feeding them. All growing big and strong and I get to pet them all too. Beautiful amazing little souls. ❤❤

Our kitten was out playing with a baby skunk s few weeks ago . I was shocked ! I just stood and watched , it was adorable . Something I never thought I would feel comfortable just watching happen .
I interact with the wild Skunks on my property and they play with the neighborhood feral cats I also feed. Beautiful creatures

We live on a farm and this is the first time I ever saw anything like it . Actually we don’t see skunks . We smell them at times but normally at night .
When I was younger, my dad came across a very young skunk on a bridge, and he was able to rescue it. He brought it home, it was quite the novelty. Within a couple of days, he was able to find someone who was skunk savvy, so we had to goodbye. Anyway, Toccoa is so beautiful with that cocoa color. I just Googled skunk colors and was surprised at some of the colors, lavender, and apricot colors that skunks can be.

lol. So far no one has run. I'd say 99% of the time Im asked "what is that" followed by "does it spray?" sometimes after answering so many times, i'll joke that she only sprays on command to which I have to laugh at the bulging eyes and agasp faces haha. But after knowing she cant spray, many just want to get close and observe her... she just head bops around without a care

When I visited my Grandmother in Medford, Oregon as a teen decades ago, a girl in the neighborhood had a pet skunk which was so amazing. I was just thinking about her and her skunk last week and then here's this great video .
When you have a wife who is lactose intolerant, you don’t need a skunk.

yes, its not very common... but a true fact... they also can come in apricot, lavendar, smoke, albino, and theres a spotted skunk!

Ahww I love ALL animals and I think any animal have the capacity to love, have fun, adapt, have joy. There is so many similarities between animals if you look closer, a skunk is just like a cat or dog, playful, joyful and SUPER cute.

I remember seeing a documentary about a woman that owned 5 skunks. Little rascals would open the fridge and take apples and other snacks when she wasn't looking, (even tho they're on a feeding schedule and weren't supposed to, lol).
it was really cute. definitely made me want skunks after learning how simple their diet is.

yes avg is about 10 but can be up to 15. Very shocking compared to the fact many dont make it past their first winter, and if they do... 2-3 yrs is about normal in the wild.
@@hrlocke Sometimes, animals do a _ton_ better under human care, both in length, but also quality of life. The skunk seems to be one of those.
Considering their even temperament and omnivorous diet, they make a good candidate for full-on domestication. Obviously, one of the first things we'd select for is reduced size and potency of the infamous scent glands (since they wouldn't need this living with humans).

yes many garbage put out that animals can get into and get their heads stuck in, is dangerous and can be fatal to the curious hungry animal searching for food. If only we as a human race could be better about properly securing our garbage/ recycles and start getting away from plastics and be more enviromentally friendly...

I've had several skunks in mutation colors (descented, of course). They make GREAT pets. I was able to litter-box train them, plus they jumped into bed with me every night. You have to watch their diets, though, otherwise they'll eat themselves sick.

Cute little skunk .
I have a skunk that comes and goes at will. She has a box with a bed set up under the porch. When she's here she eats a lot and gets fat again. Then one day she's gone. She likes to be petted and brushed, wanders in and out of the house, especially at breakfast and supper time, sleep s under the AC or fireplace depending on the season. Plays with a ball or the hanging cat toy. When processing a deer she "helps" by supervising and taste testing. If we don't feed her samples promptly enough she gets impatient, made a cute sound and taps one foot.
