Awesome discussion guys, really captured in an understandable way how car enthusiasts markets work, thoroughly enjoyed.
Thanks very much for watching and glad you enjoyed the conversation.

I bought a 2010 STI special edition for more than I originally was planning, but you're absolutely right. The price of these have really gone up. I plan on holding onto it forever.
Nice! Love the Special Edition STI from 2010. That was the lightest STI at that point, and I believe it got the Spec-C suspension from the factory as well.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
My bugeye was definitely collected 😂 ive collected and am restoring it solely for pleasure. She'll never go anywhere else! Glad i got her when i did
Right there with ya :-)

I bought my dream Subaru about 3 years ago, Jdm gc8 STI type r. Purchased for 10k with 87k miles and stock af. The price has already gone up 6-15k for some clapped modified ones. Mine will be buried with me lol 😅
Wow, that is awesome! Enjoy that car for sure.

Great conversation. Covered a lot of bases. My head was nodding in agreement throughout.
Ha! Awesome! Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
Bought my 2.5rs new in ‘99. I still have her. She has been sitting in my garage for the last 15 years. SoCal car, nothing wrong, no swap and not all cut up. She is just sleeping.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. That 2.5 RS is lucky to have been cared for for all these years.
Very Cool!

Absolutely! Anything that survives past 25 years as a car is worth the effort in my books

Great video guys!
Love my 2011 white wrx hatch but lately I’ve been struggling on keeping it. The new GR86 is very tempting and the wrx isn’t a daily just a second fun car. I’ve only driven it in the summer and the car is stock other than some gramlight wheels and a cat back. Unfortunately the previous owner did winter drive the car for a few years, but the car is still very clean. Looked for about a year and a half for a clean white gr sti hatch. Managed to find two both for sale for 30k. I have my name on a new GR86 for 33k but it’s still months away from arriving . Dreading having sealers remorse especially since living in eastern Canada, clean Subarus are becoming incredibly rare. I can count on one hand the number of GR sti’s I see in a year.
They are both fun cars certainly. I think you are really going to like that new BRZ. Subaru really did a lot of good things with that car.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
My late 2020 build (September) VA STI is a keeper for me. End of the line STI.
Very cool! Every STI is destined to be a classic.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
These things were so far ahead of the competition and best bang for your buck from the day they came off the line. So many of these did 5 second 0-60s from the shop back in 2000. And enormously tuneable. I remember at the same time the best porche money could buy, which you paid 20x the price for, wasn’t much quicker. You were lucky to get a 1 second better 0-60.
The 22B is such an awesome car for sure. I just wish that Subaru made more of them, and had continued to make STI's that had something in that range of performance.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
Currently there is a large supply of STi’s coming from California because they can’t pass smog / emissions. I found a 2006 aspen white STi with 31,000 miles on BAT that had to be titled as planned non-op, fully built RCM ej22t with only break in miles on the motor and paid 29k. had it shipped to Kansas and couldn’t be more thrilled with how it runs and drives. It’s like a brand new car. I can’t help but feel i got lucky as hell, and i think valuations will 100% continue to climb on unmolested examples. Personally 29k felt like a steal but only time will tell, and I never plan on selling it. It’s a dream car for sure!
I baught my dream car well kinda I always wanted a Subaru sti bug eye swap….. well me being young (25) 10 years ago got on Craigslist and baught the first wrx ever made the 1985 rx turbo sedan… I baught it for 250 bucks.. I had no clue what I had at the time.. 1500 ever made and the first rally specific car Subaru ever produced… probably the rarest Subaru off all time so did I get my dream car.. pretty much after I did the 06 sti motor and wiring harness merge with the factory 06 ecm.. 444 Jdm 5 speed from 06 wrx it’s basically an 06 sti in disguise at 2000 lbs. it’s the best driving, best car I’ve ever owned and the fact that basically all the stuff from 06-14 wrx stuff I’ve modified the car so it all bolts up like a new model wrx. The fact that I modified everything very little and everything bolts up is amazing to me. The front after making a rear lower control arm mount basically bolts up, and the rear moved the subframe mounts and the 08 -14 stuff bolts right in and factory length ej axles all the way around from 08-14. Since I daily drive it and it’s the family rally sedan, I’ve tuned it to 400 wheel torque and 360 wheel hp on 92 octane. all forged internal 100mm bore, and arp ROD BOLTS( stock rod bolts are the weakest part of an ej sti motor) ported heads, back cut valves, shimmed valve springs and spring height matched, ported turbo, all 304ss exhaust, it’s definitely got way more in it but really 18 psi in this car is enough… she loves ethanol 😊 once ethanol is introduce i flash in the tune I wrote from scratch, well I wrote all custom maps for the car due to it being ported it breaths way different from stock, anyways it becomes a gymkhana car where anything over 50% throttle in 3rd gear it smokes all the tires for as long as you want. The best part is the wife hated the thing for years… always was like why do you have that thing she called it. Well she drove it and this car just puts a smile on your face, and everyone you drive by or that the new wrx sti tries to pass and the wife lays it to the floor and just makes the kid in the wrx smile as we pass him smoking all 4 tires. So yes it is my dream car. And with me being a professional fabricator and machinist, I’m just going to keep updating it and driving it until I die, then I hope my kids do something with it maybe come do some launches on my gravesite every year.
Very cool! Those RX's are such cool cars. Glad that you are keeping it running and on the road!
Stay Tuned!
Great stuff guys! Love the channel. Myself i have a 09 white STI. Full stage 2 IAG all the safty mods done to it. All other stuff stock. My other ride which is my daily is my 06 wrx Limited in WR blue. Got it for a good price. Some digs here and there. So found doner STI and replaced door , trunk STI wing included. Also its and automatic! Complete stock all the way to the exhaust. Love this car. Sooo clean. Not perfect but perfect for me. From what i see the older gc, gd chassis wagons are very sought-after! I think there super cool. I think those models will be colectable amd more valuable than the sedans. What do you all think?
Thanks for watching! Sounds like you have a pair of great cars!
Stay Tuned!
I still see a ton of GD's around here. A couple every day driving around. Lots of first and second gen Foresters still too. GC's are few and far between, but I know where a couple live and drive past them often lol
Cars don't rust out here, so I do still see lots of 90's Japanese stuff regardless. My 345k 93 Impreza that was a Bay Area car had ZERO rust, so did the 299k 99 OBS I bought a few years ago.
Very cool. It is always good to hear that the older cars are still getting used.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
I could easily see a RSTI 22b Clone/Tribute go for north of 35k . In an enthusiast driven market the car that looks and performs as well or better than its "collector" counterpart is best of both worlds. You can have your cake and eat it too or have your car and drive it too.
Totally agree. I think that the enthusiast market is getting pretty strong with Subaru's.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
I sure hope so! I've got a RBP LGT Limited M/T wagon.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
I love educated people. Subscribed
just got my 2 door 2.5rs ej207 V7 swap done...apparently this is a lot more rare than i thought haha
Nice, that sounds awesome!
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
I purchased a WRB 2002 Bugeye in 2019 with 125k on it. I replaced the short block, heads, cams, lifters, motor mounts, tranny mounts and a slew of aftermarket add-one’s. No eBay parts. The last thing we did was I had CamTuning dyno it and he got 249hp 253tq with the stock turbo. I wouldn’t sell it for what they say they are going for. There is no way because they are getting hard to find in good condition and since it’s the first year the WRX came stateside they are becoming way more rare. I’ll probably keep it until I die as well.
Bugeye's are the best for sure, and glad to hear that you are keeping it in peak condition!
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
I’ve had a few Subarus I really really regret selling….
07 Sti Limited (031 of 800)
My 1st 1995 Impreza coupe
But, I’m pretty happy with my current collection that will never leave my hands…..
1991 SS Turbo Legacy
1993 Impreza Wagon
1995 Impreza Coupe
Nice! Those are all great examples for sure.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
From what I found online I have 1 of the 382 US sent Crystal Gray Metallic with Silver Wheels 2007 Subaru Impreza wrx Sti . Which on top of that only 4578 were sent in 07. Mine still has stock cats full exhaust turbo. Sitting at 100k now but keeping forever. Everyone looks and say how clean or beautiful a couple of people throughout the years have asked by it. I think it’ll be a collectors car personally just the GD’s though and the special rare editions
Very cool indeed! Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.

Im collecting my 04 STi...First car I ever got and the last
That absolutely counts 🙂
Stay Tuned!
Finally been dailying a Bugeye wagon in '23 layely. Feels amazing to be so unique again (coming for a Cherokee) I barely see any on the east coast. Only VA or maybe a Gr
Very cool! I am totally biased, but I do think that Bugeye's are the best looking WRX's/STI's hands down.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
Another point to add is the younger generation doesn't have as much drive or knowledge and experience to build cars themselves, it's a lot of time, research, and trial and error. So the custom labor to swap all these parts and have a cohesive build is becoming a huge premium. I just street tuned a mint 07 sti and the guy walks to work and the car sits in this garage. Not feeling so bad after spending 26k to buy/build my 350whp street pounder 08 wrx. It's super fun to smash around town, knowing I'm well under what it can handle.
There definitely seems to be some key differences between the group of enthusiasts that are say 30 or younger currently. But it seems like there may be a bit of growing interest in that group.
We'll just have to see how things develop.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
my 02 is a collectors car. Ive collected it.
That is all it takes. And Bugeye's are the best for sure :-)
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
The motorsport part of the Impreza line is a IYKYK car. Most people see nothing special. The few of us that "get it" will never let them go. And slowly the wide market is noticing and asking the question, 'why?' Then they find out, find they can't have it, and price skyrockets.
It's essentially a romantic stored about economics and market forces.
I have collectors insurance on my swaped GC Rs swap.. and the benefits are great.
I sold my 07 sti rolling chassis no motor, had everything else, and had full fuel system dual pumps, -8an feed/return, full clean interior for $15k, and then sold bunch of accessories like big stock location turbo uppipe/WG ect to the same guy for $4k more. And he had an IAG motor on the way, I’m keeping my 2019 forever, and got special car insurance on it for the fact of replacement cost will be really high with as much money I have in it.
Love my 2019 STI I bought brand new. Car is paid off and I will never sell it!!!!!
What about first gen legacies? Spec b?
I have a first gen and an 05 that is basically turned into a gr STI. I freaking love that car. It's pretty low key too. Any thoughts on these cars?
The first gen Legacy Turbos are largely forgotten cars, but they are definitely cool, and as more people discover them, the more attention they will get. If folks start importing Legacy RS's now that they can, that could drive some attention as well.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
I LOVE this vid because I've struggling with this exact topic recently.. I have an immaculate bugeye that I bought new in 03 (see my thumbnail ;) ) that is still my daily after 20 years. I did drop in a fully built Ej257 a few years ago (because I wanted it.. not because I needed it.. go screw yourselves Donut Media..) and I run a comfortable 360 awhp on my OEM glass 5-speed. No issues. After 2 decades I still LOVE this car... and like Jon said, my family jokes that I'll be buried in it. My kids have learned to drive a stick specifically so that they could occasionally be allowed to drive it. It is part of our family story.
BUT.. I also see clean bugeyes going for $25-30k now. And I've put down a deposit on a new EV that should come in later this year. Sooooo.. it would only make sense that I should sell my WRX right? RIGHT?? Financially it only makes sense. The potential money and one less car to store, register, insure, etc..
Great comment. The challenge is that increasingly, it seems like if you sell, there is likely never going to be any going back. Unless you are able to pay a premium.
But who knows.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
I'm in the similar boat as you @Tony Morrill. I have a near mint 02 bugeye that has been my daily since new that now has 387K on it. The motor was torn down and fully rebuilt to be more stout back in 2010 and the 5 speed upgraded to full PPG gear set, pro tuned at 329whp with full supporting mods. Three of my four kids have learned to drive manual in it. I too get the family jokes and no I will never get rid of it although I have had many people hassle me to buy it for many years now
Yes. /end thread

Coming from driving a Honda CRX, my wife wanted me to get "family car". I wanted a GC, but ended up getting a GD bugeye, partly because my wife said no 90's cars. Honestly, I think those are the best value right now. I see bugeyes every day going for $2-6k. I wouldn't take less than $15k for my STI longblock/6 speed bugeye. Speaking of collectors cars, my aunt bought 2 s2000's when they first came out and kept one with zero miles on it. I gotta reach out to her. I think she sold it during a low time in the market. :/
Thanks for the comment! S2000's are definitely starting to go up in price. Especially if they are low miles.

Great discussion! Keep these coming! Any ICE car that has personality (both in performance and looks) and like you put it "gets under your skin" will be sought after. We are already seeing it and it will just increase as we move to the next stage of modern transportation and as the ICE cars age out and get wrecked. Modern cars isolate the driver from the car and all look the same, so people will seek the nostalgia of the all older cars including Subarus.
I agree on all points. The ICE cars that have a great driving experience, make the right noises, and are just all around fun will continue to hold enthusiasts interest for sure.
And that is a very good thing.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
How do you pass Air Care (emissions testing) if you swap an STi engine into a WRX assuming the ECU still reads the VIN number of the STi? I understand the drivetrain, brakes, suspension but don’t see how you can run an EJ257 and keep it registered. Thanks!
That is a complicated question. I'd recommend going back and listening the the Podcast we did with Brian and Whitney where they are getting their swapped RS through California BAR.
That is going to be your best resource on that subject I think.

Im gonna hold on to my SF , its got a built motor now and jdm aero
The more you get the car set up the way you want, the better. And that sounds like a cool build for sure.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
I have a pretty clean '08 SG Foz XT which was a USDM-spec'd 5 spd originally but bought it with a full 6 spd & EJ257 swap with low mileage. Basically, my SG Foz is the closest u can get to a true 6 spd USDM SG9 Foz that Subaru should've brought to the US but never did.
Now with the car under my name... I added a bunch of JDM SG Foz parts, new USDM OEM SG Foz parts that were worn out, & tons of new USDM OEM GD STi parts, a solid aluminum driveshaft, 1 piece fully forged VR Forged D04 18x9.5 +40 offset wheels in Satin Gold on 5x114.3 hubs with Gold Brembo's, & the body is the paint code of (61K) Dark Grey Metallic.
The same goes for me, I'm gonna be buried in it cuz it'll never be sold! 🤪
Very cool! You have built up an awesome Forester from the sounds of it.
Enjoy it, and thanks for watching!

Guess my kids are inheriting a UGM 07 STi Limited. Thanks!
I have 2 2.5rs. 2001 4 door and a 2000 2 door. My 2 door is awaiting the 22b widebody kit and has a full 04sti swap waiting. My 4 door is staying stock Because the body and interior is stupid clean.
I'll snag another one if one comes up for sale as well.
Those are very cool cars for sure. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching. Stay Tuned!
Wish I would have bought an R35 GTR back in 2018 when I first wanted to… they were going for low $30k (first gen) now they are all over $60k in CA
yeah, I watched GDf hawkeyes creep up and up over the past 10 yrs as I was trying to find a clean, unmodified example. I set my budget at 24k and realized it was more likely to be 28-30k... when I found a 2006 high mileage body with a documented forged motor, I decided it was better to have one and restore it than miss the boat altogether because of getting priced out of the game... GD STi will be 50 grand at some point... but probably never 100k money 🙂👍🏾
Thanks for the comment. Honestly, it is sill kind of crazy to think of a GD STI as a $50k car honestly. Things are changing out there.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
According to Hagerty, a concours GD STi is worth 50k now.
STi drivetrain swap to keep those lower WRX insurance premiums 😛
It is a solid plan for sure :-)
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
As rare as the 22B is the RB5 & RB320 will always be worth more to me. If I had the money to buy a 22B or the RB5/RB320, every single time, I would opt for the RB5 or RB320. This is due specifically to the connection with Richard Burns - he was my introduction to rally and Subaru.
If the keys to both were handed to me (ie. free), I would take the 22B, sell it to a collector, then get my RB5 or RB320. :)
While cash value wise, the 22B will always surpass the RB5/RB320, it's impossible to ignore the value to the individual.
If there was a great condition 1986 Toyota Mr2, and a great condition 1992 Honda Civic Type R - the Civic would absolutely be a higher priced vehicle, but I would buy the Mr2 every single time.
Personal taste/preference supersedes cash value in specific situations, so always going by 'the market value' can be somewhat misleading.
Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching. Stay Tuned!
in Australia, everyones holding on to theirs. I wish I never sold mine tbh. Some are going for $60k AUD on Facebook
Wow, it is happening everywhere it would seem. Thanks for the comment and Stay Tuned!
What about my 2013 STI / SE 1 of 100 tangerine orange and black with only 5,000 original miles?
Those definitely seem to be going up. Very cool color, and as you say, very few of them out there.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
Only issue is the car was never badged from Subaru... so I don't know it's actual production number. Any idea how to obtain the actual number 1 - 100 on my car with the VIN?
In case anyone cares: I've a 1999 Impreza 2.5RS coupe. I'm resto-modding it to an STI V5 Type R, and sticking as close to stock as I can.
What are your thoughts on GG wagons?
I love wagons personally. They seem to come into demand, and then fade out. Right now, it seems like people like wagons. I think they are way more useful than a sedan myself.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
@@FlatironsTuning Agreed. I have a very well kept limited 07 wagon, 07 STI 6-speed, Brembos, oem BBS wheels, STI gauge cluster, ej255 but with vf48 and high quality supporting mods; pretty much what i imagined a STI GG wagon would be if it existed. I will probably keep the car forever but I do ask my self from time to time, what might it be worth in 10 years? 20 years?
GD STI's are collectors items now and have been for a few years.....skyrocketing in price....30-50gs, will soon be common for very good condition, clean title 2004-2007 STI's here. They are selling for those prices NOW in Europe!!! These STI's changed the sports car market when they came to the U.S...they are milestone cars....low production rocket ships, and they didn't make a whole lot, and probably less than half have survived and nice ones are not easy to find. Many were wrecked and parted out, just all the metrics have come together to skyrocket the value of 04-07 STI's!!!! This spring and summer these cars will be very very very valuable.....gold rush level. Also S209's will be $200,000-250,000 in a year, they will easily double in price from what they are now. EASILY going to be fetching $50-100,000 soon as in by 2025 for nice GD STI's
Thanks for the comment, and it will be crazy if the value of these cars goes up that much. It could happen!
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
@@FlatironsTuning theres a 4 door 22b on bring a trailer right now and its already bid to $89 000 with 11 more dayd to go lol...yes subaru sports cars...ARE...collectors items!! GD STI'S are going to be coveted...they didnt mske many and probably less thsn half have survived to this date..$$$$$$!!!!!!!!!

I sold my 07 limited satin white STI and I cry everyday.

The next Subaru to look out will be the Forester sti , as soon as it comes of age for the US market the prices will go through the roof.
Those will be very cool to see for sure.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
I’m torn on this subject, as I own a JDM only Forester STI that is now going up in value, so this is nice….but unfortunately when cars start to increase in value then the car collectors come into the market and push up and out price these cars to the true Subaru fans
Thanks for the comment. STI's are doing that now. I have never had one, and as they start going up in value, I feel like the chances that I will ever own one are going down fast.
I think it is good that people are valuing the cars, but when that value starts to run away (like the NSX that we talked about in the Pod), it can take the cars to unattainable prices pretty quickly.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
Ya well, one thing not spoken about is that people put tens of thousands of dollars into these cars. You never get your money back.
Thanks for the comment. That is certainly true. The interesting thing is that in some cases well documented modified cars are starting to hold their value a bit more than they have in the past.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
When 2005-2008 STI's can still sell for $25,000 it seems so, kinda crazy though if you ask me
I agree, but when they start going up from there, that is where it gets interesting.
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
