Ian thank you so much for these videos and action plans! You have a very concise and structured method that is simple and easily understood. Great teacher!
Ian, one of the best volley tutorials I've seen. I hope you don't mind if I use this material in my own teaching. It's called a "beginner volley lesson" but the fundamentals can be applied at higher levels, too. Also useful for teaching children. I was watching a Stefan Edberg video and your lesson came up. He was perhaps the best minimalist volleyer ever. Sampras hit a crisp volley, too. This is how they do it. Nice lesson.
Hi Ian- I am in San Diego..grew up in Janesville WI- Milwaukee is close to home 👍- played Div 3 in Wi- Now League 4.5 in San Diego- odd question for you- the tennis ball pillows on your couch are cool- where did you get them?..thx again for the videos.. great break down/ explanation on the strokes!
The WI connection! Smart move heading to San Diego, haha. We got those pillows years ago at Ikea. No idea if they still have them or not. Keep up the great work on your game! -Ian
Is the position you were standing at the end where you recommend players stand to volley in a match, or was that merely a position to help with training the volley technique? I ask because when I see good volleyers play they usually stand rather closer to the net than that - over halfway towards the net instead of (as you were) more than halfway to the service line. Are they doing that slightly wrong or is that more of an "in-game" technique?
Hey Ian, how can I effectively measure my progress as a tennis player? Sometimes it's hard to tell if you're getting any better if you're not competing in tournaments or playing frequently with other people.
Genius, start with a continental grip, the best of no worlds, turn you shoulders to lead with your forehead volley and slice everything, the most difficult shot to aim..... genius ps make sure you watch it hit your strings.....to complete the trifecta of stupid

What racquet are you using, Ian? It looks like a Wilson Burn FST 99s but I may be wrong.
