Completely unrelated to The Witcher, but have you guys seen Outlander? It's been out for a few years now and still going strong (season 6 will be out early 2022). It's such an incredible show! If you guys have seen it, could we expect a review anytime soon? If not, I highly recommend the series, completely underrated! Love your channel, huge fan for many years now. Take it easy guys
The tune is catchy, but the lyrics...dear God the lyrics are bad :). It's funny cause Jaskier/Dandelion is supposed to be a great poet and worldwide famous artist in books and in the show he comes up with something so amateurish hehe, "He thrust every elf Far back on the shelf" is by far the stupidest line I've heard in a while hehe. It;s also downplaying a bit the inner goodness and sensibility of the character, as in the story Edge of the World on which this episode is based in part our dear bard says: "'Until the end of time!' sang the troubadour and strummed his lute. Torque joined in with a high trill on his reed pipes. 'Hail, Lady of the Fields! For the harvest, for the flowers in Dol Blathanna, but also for the hide of the undersigned, which you saved from being riddled with arrows. Do you know what? - I'm going to tell you something.' He stopped playing, hugged the lute like a child and grew sad. 'I don't think I'll mention the elves and the difficulties they've got to struggle with, in the ballad. There'd be no shortage of scum wanting to go into the mountains . . . Why hasten the-' The troubadour grew silent. 'Go on, finish,' said Torque bitterly. 'You wanted to say: hasten what can't be avoided. The inevitable.' " ... 'Hm . . . Geralt? Lille lives in the village, among people. Do you think that-' '-that she'll stay with them? Here, in Dol Blathanna? Maybe. If . . .' 'If what?' 'If people prove worthy of it. If the edge of the world remains the edge of the world, If we respect the boundaries. But enough of this talk, boys. Time to sleep.' 'True. It's nearly midnight, the fire's burning out. I'll sit up for a little while yet. I've always found it easiest to invent rhymes beside a dying fire. And I need a title for my ballad. A nice title.' 'Maybe The Edge of the World?' 'Banal,' snorted the poet. 'Even if it really is the edge, it's got to be described differently. Metaphorically. I take it you know what a metaphor is, Geralt? Hmm . . . Let me think . . . "Where ..." Bloody hell. "Where-'" 'Goodnight,' said the devil." She groaned again, without words, desperate. With regret that this was not a dream. And regretting to have not succeeded. 'It did not work,' Tissaia de Vries said, sitting next to the bed. Yennefer wanted a drink, something to wet her sticky lips. But she did not ask. Her pride would not allow it. 'It did not work,' said Tissaia de Vries. 'But not because you did not try. You cut yourself deeply and accurately. Therefore, I am now with you. If you did not mean it seriously, if it was just a ridiculous, bogus exhibition, I have only contempt for you. But you cut yourself deep. Seriously.' Yennefer numbly stared at the ceiling. 'I will take care of you, girl I think you are worth it. I'll work with you here. It will not be easy. I have to straighten the spine and flatten the hump. But I also have to treat those hands. When you cut your veins, you severed tendons. And the hands of a sorceress are a very important instrument, Yennefer.' Moister on her lips. Water. 'You'll live,' said Tissaia factually, seriously, even severe. 'Your time is yet to come. But when it arrives, you'll remember this day.' Yennefer eagerly suck moisture from a stick wrapped in a wet dressing. 'I'll take care of you,' echoed Tissaia de Vries, touching her hair gently. 'And now... We're here alone, without witnesses. Not one is looking at us, and I'm not going to say anything to anyone. Cry, girl. Pour it all out. Make it your last cry. Starting now you will never cry. There is nothing more pathetic than a sorceress in tears.' " Witcher, The Lady of the Lake, Andrzej Sapkowski

As someone who has followed this production since the very first announcement, I'd really much like to see the source where you got this information from. The only episode that had reshoots in the first season was the pilot because of casting changes. Also Netflix renew all their series season by season depending on their success.
Yes the pilot one was the one I was talking about, the original script was like 1.5 hours long, I should have been clearer about that and yes Netflix do renew all their series by season performance but they have already greenlit S3 anyway this time!
@@vaibhavjoshi99 Ahh yes, now I understand that you meant pilot with "beginning", sorry about that. But yeah, The Witcher seems like the first property that Netflix is going all-in since there's like 2-3 spinoffs coming up and more anime stuff. I won't be surprised if we get news about season 4 even before 3 has finished shooting next year, haha. :)
Re: the contacts vs. CGI eyes thing, Yennefer's actress had issues with the contacts so they went with mostly CGI for her eyes which honestly looks a lot better than the contacts. There's actually a behind the scenes video about the lens technician for the Witcher on UA-cam because so many characters wear colored contacts in this show lol
It is a shame they don’t use the cgi for everybody. Especially in season 2 the contacts are really distracting and I think it affects their acting in a negative way. There is absolutely no emotion visable in their eyes.
I think the producer and makeup team wanted Geralt's appearance to look "odd" in bright light so we get that feeling that he's out of place. Witchers are mutants and are viewed as freaks and feared / hated, just like the elves and anything else different in that world... and sadly in this world still. Great reaction, can't wait til you react to the next episode Betrayer's Moon.
Probably would have worked better if that whole scene was done in the fading light of evening, like in the book, as opposed to the BLINDING light of cloudless, mid-day. Smh with this production design sometimes...
"Oh.. she's 'Dutch-ing' herself" .. funniest thing I've heard so far today. The fact that you also pointed out it was a Predator reference was even better. Great work guys 😂
Can't wait to see her in s2. If it all happens as expected, she will be showing an entirely new side of her character (and one of my favorite parts of the relationship between her and xxx)
The episode that launched a million Tik Tok videos with “Toss A Coin To Your Witcher” I actually had a very theatrical idea for The Witcher for when they were supposed to come back to San Diego Comic Con in 2020 for season 2 that before their panel they would dim all the lights, then slowly shine a spotlight on have the actor who plays Jaskier as he sings that song, in costume, with a lute. Then as he is singing show a video highlight reel behind him of the best scenes of the show.
I love Yennefer. Her story is so amazing. She's so powerful and although her methods are a little brash sometimes, I feel like she deserves things to go her way.
Awww I'm so glad you guys like Yennefer she is just wonderful, such a solid performance. The series is not perfect but the casting more than makes up for it, and from what we've seen S2 is headed to be the same, it's just great
You guys are killing it, KILLING IT, with these reactions to The Witcher. I've only watched you from time to time but I love how emotionally and thoughtfully available you've made yourselves (or just happen to be) to the world and the characters. It is the kind of show that definitely rewards that instead of trope-hunting knuckle-dragging hypercriticism. Can't wait for the rest of the season from you.
Yes, the actor for Jaskier did come from a theatre background! I saw an old video of him in a Shakespeare company learning to play the lute - which came in handy and probably helped him get this role.
I think it would have worked without it too, simply put if more attention was given to Geralt as a character and his moral struggles (which basically was the source material for the first two tomes of short stories The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny is heavily focused on Geralt) what the first season needed the most was a larger number of episodes, only 8 is too little to cover so much material, besides it also feels somewhat rushed (particularly the relationships of characters they got seriousl simplified).
When they say Witchers have no feelings, these are what people think, from hearing other stories, and as we learn bard stories are not usually the whole truth. I think the witchers like people to believe that though
Yup. One of the major themes of the Witcher is that fairy tales and wives tales are not always what they appear to be. Geralt hides his emotions and uses the stories told about Witcher's being emotionless to his advantage.
Henry Cavill is wearing one of the first wigs for this episode and I believe episode 4. After, there will be reshoots with a better wig as seen in after the intro of episode 1.
I LOVE how the show introduces so many people to the world of the witcher. I would've never played Witcher 3 without watching thr show. I hope you two play witcher after watching the show (you can skip 1 and 2 easily then go back to them)
WOW just finding out you guys are reacting to this!! I'm so happy!! the episodes just get better and better guys and GREG YOUR emotions this episode had me crying too!! 😭❣❣❣❣ Great reaction guys!!
You guys have made me want to binge watch this show all over again! Can’t wait to see your reactions to the rest of the series, episodes 4-8 are the absolute best imo! 😊
Personally my favourite episode is Episode 4 but episode 2 is up there. Really nailed Yennefer's backstory and didn't pull the punches :D
3 роки тому+1
Well, 5 and 3 are also both up there. 1 is high up thanks to the fight, 8 is a pretty great finale, 7 is an important build up and 6 has some really great moments. Hard to pick a favourite! Can I pick all of them?
@ Every episode is a favorite for a different aspect. I think they all bring at least one thing better than all the rest. I've never really been one who can pick favorites, though. I have favorites of things, but rarely ever a single favorite. I've never even been able to answer the basic age old question of favorite color...
I’m excited to see you guys discover this show, Yennifer’s story especially. No spoilers but... if and when you rewatch this series it will be a different/richer experience.
Definitely continue watching with subtitles. I watch pretty much everything with subtitles. If you're used to it, it isn't distracting at all and helps me to understand the story/characters much better.
Thanks to you guys, I have gone back and re-watched the series (in a couple nights mind you) and I picked up so much more on the little nuances of each episode, mainly around clues to the timeline of each character as they slowly merge into the current time.
I LOVE Yenefers storyline, she is amazing. She is not perfect, she has flaws and uses her power for herself many times, but that makes her likeable and relatable. I hope she will be present in the second season a lot too.
Really enjoying your recaps. I watched the series when it first came out and just did a rewatch to prep for season2. But I'm even picking up new thoughts with you guys. Glad you are enjoying it. Really looking forward to all the pieces come together for you. Dutching herself...brilliant.
It went straight to series, but Geralt's half of the pilot was reshot at the end of production. So his hair in the pilot is it's final form, and then in this episode it's back to what hey started with.
Interesting you picked up on the difference between episode 1 and 2. So if I remember correctly a lot of episode 1 specifically geralts story was basically all reshot late in production because they weren't happy with the first version or something. We're talking new choreography, new actors, different sets. Which is why it felt different. It also explains some of the budget issues some people have with this season. Because they basically reshot most of an episode after the production had moved on from it. Also Jaskier is actually pronounced with a Y so Yaskier as it's a Polish name. And interestingly in the English books/games his name is translated as Dandelion.
The first series is roughly based on the short stories from the first 2 books. That may drive the anthology feeling. Very different to GOT as it is much more focused on specific characters rather than a wide range of characters.
The show E.R. 1994 had a character who had a walking disability and the actress played her for years. She developed serious health issues from pretending to limp and use a cane for so long.
Ooh great reactions! Looking forward to episode 6, my favorite! Be sure to pay attention to the all the dialogue which is pretty important and don’t skip the song at the end of 1x6!
I loved this episode so much! Although, I was a little confused with all the jumping around at first. I figured maybe they have to do the timeline like that in the series but it must be different in the books. Jaskier is one of my favs! He's so hilarious & talented, can't wait to see how his friendship with Geralt develops. Yennifer, omg broke my heart, all over the place! I've watched my sons play a little, very little, but I am picking up on some things. I probably shouldn't talk about it here or continue watching them. Don't want to spoil it for myself. Don't expect Geralt & Ciri to meet up anytime soon. Seems like that will be a climatic moment.
I’m glad you guys are doing this series. Enjoying this a lot. Can’t wait for more. Just know that this series time jumps a lot or you’ll get a little confused
Hey guys, new to the channel. Love your reactions! Very thoughtful and insightful. Don't worry, it's definitely leading towards something ;) Episode 3 was my personal favourite - looking forward to your reactions!
Geralt looked different because most the scenes of Episode 1 were reshoots after they've finished, that's why he looked more polished in EP.1. And you'll notice that every episode that passes Geralt's looks will become more polished, also, episodes have different directors (like GOT) that's why sometimes you get a refreshing feel. And no, it wasn't picked up after a pilot. The Witcher is both a number one selling book and a hit video game, it has a gigantic fanbase, it was picked up immediately and Henry Cavill, being a fan of the game, called Netflix immediately and told them "I want to be Geralt."
I am so glad that YOU GUYS are doing this show. Great to get your perspective as peeps who imo industry insiders, and know your ways around a Hollywood studio.
One point of clarification that will benefit you going forward, without spoiling anything...Queen Calanthe of Cintra was Ciri's grandmother, not her mother. Her mother's name was Pavetta. Keep up the good work gentlemen!
I just found out about season 2 and I don't have enough time to rewatch the show, so this will be a great refresher! (Also I very much appreciate the subtitles as a person who's first language isn't English)
A little spoiler: Geralt's story in this episode takes place years later after his story in previous episode. That is why he looks different. Even his armor is not the same.
It kicks my ass that Tissaia is completely aware of Yennfer's power and is teaching her cruelty towards her peers and the world, not actually being cruel to her directly. I can't decide if that makes me like her more or hate her. I love the character though.
A helpful tool for the newcomers to this season is to know that Geralt, Yennifer, and Ciri's arcs all take place in different time periods. They don't make it clear right away, and the middle episodes can get confusing at first.
I hope you guys are following that the three character’s stories are not happening simultaneously at the beginning of the series. Most of Geralt and Yennefer’s stories take place a while before Cieri’s story
The general belief of the common man is that Witchers don't have emotions. Like most prejudicial fallacies it's a way for them to not feel so bad about how they treat them. Being a witcher is grim work and most of them are pretty stoic/taciturn but yeah, they still do have emotions, they just aren't generally big on expressing them.
Subtitles are a good idea there are points where they speak only in another language and I am not sure the show gives you a translation without subtitles.
When I first watched this episode I was sad for Yen when she was sold. I thought the person who bought her was going to be mean but she wanted to teach her how to do magic.

I still find myself singing “Toss a coin to your Witcher…” to this day😅😂
You guys have made me want to binge watch this show all over again! Can’t wait to see your reactions to the rest of the series, episodes 4-8 are the absolute best imo! 😊
Personally my favourite episode is Episode 4 but episode 2 is up there.
Really nailed Yennefer's backstory and didn't pull the punches :D
Well, 5 and 3 are also both up there. 1 is high up thanks to the fight, 8 is a pretty great finale, 7 is an important build up and 6 has some really great moments. Hard to pick a favourite! Can I pick all of them?
@ Every episode is a favorite for a different aspect. I think they all bring at least one thing better than all the rest. I've never really been one who can pick favorites, though. I have favorites of things, but rarely ever a single favorite. I've never even been able to answer the basic age old question of favorite color...
I watched 'Nightmare of the Wolf' yesterday, and seeing Filavandrel was interesting. He's only here a little bit, but his performance is great.
Yennefer makes this entire show for me. Her story truly touches your heart.
Yes yes. Just what I need on my day off 😅. Love The Witcher
This might be my favorite episode. The incredible Yennifer and that song is impossible to forget!
I actually prefer with subtitles, so thank you!
Based on this reaction to this episode, you guys are going to love where this series goes.
Tissaia knew all along that Yenn was special. She was the only student who did not require a reagent to cast her magic.
Really enjoying your recaps. I watched the series when it first came out and just did a rewatch to prep for season2. But I'm even picking up new thoughts with you guys. Glad you are enjoying it. Really looking forward to all the pieces come together for you.
Dutching herself...brilliant.
What I found cool: MyAnna Buring (who plays Tissaia here) also played the Duchess Anna Henrietta in Witcher 3: Blood and Wine.
Yennefer is one of my favourite characters in a long time. Enjoy the journey.
It went straight to series, but Geralt's half of the pilot was reshot at the end of production. So his hair in the pilot is it's final form, and then in this episode it's back to what hey started with.
Keep the subtitles because im not a native english speaker so its easier for me to keep up with you guys
I swear Greg’s voice seems deeper this video. Honestly after watching Henry Cavill as Geralt, me too lol
Great reaction. You picked up a lot. Every word in this show counts and yes: There is a direction you are not able to see yet.
Luv y’all. Really enjoy your relaxed, intelligent and sympathetic discussion.
Yess so glad you guys uploaded this episode! Can’t wait for ep.3 and onwards!
Loving your love for Yen. I am so excited to see what you think of next episode!
Witchers have emotion, but the "they don't have emotion" thing comes from yet another prejudice towards the witchers
They have emotions but prefer that people think they don't, so people don't emotionally blackmail them when it comes to paying.
I’m glad you guys are doing this series. Enjoying this a lot. Can’t wait for more. Just know that this series time jumps a lot or you’ll get a little confused
Yesss another Witcher reaction video!!!
Thank you The Reel Rejects for this reaction. I needed to get that song stuck in my head again. Gets me hyped for the new season.
Oh you just wait! 😂 it just keeps getting better
Hey guys, new to the channel. Love your reactions! Very thoughtful and insightful. Don't worry, it's definitely leading towards something ;) Episode 3 was my personal favourite - looking forward to your reactions!
“You’re craving a hotdog” lmao I died
The different looks for Geralt is, you would notice, a result of different directors every episode
The decoy cards come in handy later on when Geralt meets a merchant or innkeeper with lots of spy cards.
Now you get to enjoy all of the humor, beauty, texture and complexity of this series. It's soooooo good!
I love Yennifer. My favorite character. So captivating
Damn I'd just got that song out of my head 🤣
I love this show and one of my favourite episodes is next too for you guys 'betrayer moon' , your going to love it 👍
I always watch shows and movies with subtitles, it helps you learn the names and spellings correctly!
I just found out about season 2 and I don't have enough time to rewatch the show, so this will be a great refresher! (Also I very much appreciate the subtitles as a person who's first language isn't English)
I watched The Witcher last year & plan on rewatching season 1 before season 2 comes out. I've heard the "Toss a coin to your Witcher" song on my iPod.
The Witcher and The Last Kingdom are two of my favorite series on Netflix.
That time is now to do a couple a week. I don't want to wait until next Wednesday.
Episode 3 may be my favorite episode in this season. Just putting that out there
Things will make sense in a few episodes. Enjoy the ride
A helpful tool for the newcomers to this season is to know that Geralt, Yennifer, and Ciri's arcs all take place in different time periods. They don't make it clear right away, and the middle episodes can get confusing at first.
Noo! Stop saying spoilers! It's much more fun to discover it yourself 😒
Man, I've been waiting for this video all week 🙌
the editing shifts timelines. you have to look at things like Geralt's clothes. his armor keeps changing depending on time.
Dammit....that song is stuck in my head again
I did not notise the eye thing before now but might be because she can't use lenses because of her eyes? I love this episode. I love your reactions!
Episode 3's about to blow your mind
I hope you guys are following that the three character’s stories are not happening simultaneously at the beginning of the series. Most of Geralt and Yennefer’s stories take place a while before Cieri’s story
The show really hits its stride in episode 3
On the make-up details..
The choices for the exaggerations in character design are just accurate detailed truths to the books
I can't wait for The Wheel of Time reactions when it releases next week
Waiting for the moment they realize how the timeline works in this series
Was waiting for this!!!
toss a coin to your Witcher is a banger
Cheers from Canada guys!!!
Loves your reaction ❤️ always best ......🥰
My favorite character arrives, Jaskier!! (or Dandelion) 🤗
I really wish you guys would do two episodes a week but I get it, life is busy
id rather get this more than their chucky episodes
