Ive loved this song ever since I was a child..it takes me back to a time when life was so much happier and peaceful and safe...im an old man now..and im sad to say i don't think them days will return.
Im with you Jim
God is with you
Oh so true.
Poot l am
😂😂😂
No comprende ?
Reminds me when a choir boy sang it on Yorkshire vet winter special and they showed clips of Yorkshire Moors covered in snow and vets and farmers still working hard . This song reminds me of Yorkshire as on the north Yorkshire Moors we get harsh winters xxx
I sang this at primary school for the christmas play...but my mum didnt come.I was gutted.Im 48 and i still tear up remembering looking for her in the parents.
Beautiful song
Sorry bud.
Sorry Mate, God loves you
This was my grandmother's favourite hymn. She died at the start of February, and unfortunately we didn't get to sing this at her funeral, for some reason my uncle who planned it didn't think it was appropriate, but whenever I hear it I shall think of her.
😊
Beautiful carol, both words and music. I love the last verse reminding us that the only thing Jesus asks of us is our heart. We can't buy our salvation, it is a debt paid by Him on the cross.
I am not a religious man l, but your music is beautiful. Thank you for the peaceful moments and inspiration.
God bless you all.
We are pleased we can help. 😊
and you to!
Many Prayers!
The man who wrote this song is dead bro
@@KeaganGraham-ss3iv no shit lol.
Absolutely stunning . That incredible feeling of joy when you know your Saviour. Nothing compares to this. ❤😊
Amen and amen he is lord
So true I don't know how people get through without God in their lives
Sorry, but these hymns & old songs/carols (especially when sung in old cathedrals) resonate with our DNA & the feelings/emotions they stir within us are our bodies literally being “awakened”; that’s what you/we feel, not bc of a person who may or may not have existed
Same goes for Hebrew & Arabic chants, Buddhist mantras, Gregorian chants etc. The flame of a candle has been shown to turn purple & blue while an ancient Arabic chant was sung
The early Catholic & Christian churches knew this. That’s why hearing them in an old cathedral can legit make “you” laugh & cry at the same time.
This happens to me & I have never believed in the Roman Catholic god, or the gospels. Nevertheless, I am convinced that their is a divine hand, power, architect that is ever present & have had experiences/interactions with “spirit” “the ethereal” that have changed my life in so many ways
The only thing we need to do, the only thing that truly matters is…treat people with kindness, respect, empathy, and “love”. When you do that everything will take care of itself one way or another
Peace & Love to all this Christmas season. May all your dreams come true & may you have long, happy lives with years of Christmas’ with your families & loved ones
@@NP-ui3tr you have to ask yourself why do you have these emotions in the first place. Animals don't have this same consciousness, why are only humans made this way, to feel utter joy from worship music? Why, if as athiests believe, if we are just a bunch of cells, do we feel these beautiful and joyful emotions from hymns and songs of worship. These things have nothing to do with our DNA, they are put into every human being by our Creator. They are not biological, they are from our God who created man in His own image, a spiritual being made from more than just flesh and blood.
You have to have a lot of faith to be a non believer, for sure. We have been created and worship music has been designed to worship our amazing God, I feel close to Him when singing and that joy is immense. I truly believe God uses music as a tool to communicate our love for Him.
Wishing you and yours a peaceful New year my friend.

That's great to hear, Charles. 😊
So evocative and true Charles.
Exactly Charles I'm Staunch Catholic Christmas and Easter are very special time to me always has but since they are all gone it's no longer same my memory isn't as good as it use to be but as soon as I play a Hymn, Carols or even everyday song from past not today's music it's utterly soulless but from past play it that's it flood gates of emotions in positive not negative way erupted and I then turn into absolutely blubbering wreck this was my Mother, Grandmother, stepfather and my Nan's friend favourite Carol they loved singing it wen alive now they are all singing in Heaven's choir. My strong Catholic Faith and my Rosary Beads gives me such enormous great comfort, peace and joy no matter how bad I feel I no God and his Blessed Mother Mary is with me always. A happy belated Christmas Blessings to everyone and all best for 2023

I remember being 8 years old and singing this in 1963 ( A Really BAD Winter ) A Wonderful Christmas Carol , As a child living in Garston , Liverpool ( Under the bridge ) I would Smash the icicles hanging down from the old Victorian Gutters, They would crash into the pavement with help from my old cricket ball ,..... Great Fun was had.

@@skyterrapin Why are so many Atheists so nasty ? This was a positive comment. Who cares if you believe in it or not.
@@skyterrapin Why bring negativity to something that is overwhelmingly positive? Just because you feel angry about your own life shouldn't mean you should be trying to bring people down to your level of unpleasantness.
@@ernesto10 I’m not angry with my life....only angry that there are so many people like yourself that believe in rubbish like this.
Came here after hearing it from Ghosts Christmas Special 2020, touching moment. Good video and version :) It's touching how they sing together in harmony. Alison and Thomas sound good together but when the rest join in, including the Plague People, it's even better
Glad you liked it. 🙏🏾

@@irenelalouve2679 Awesome!
In my view the greatest Christmas Carol. I wasn't aware that it was by Holst and Rossetti. That explains the superior quality. We may find it hard to believe the supernatural in religion but we are infinitely poorer if we reject the beauty of the art and music and in peril if we reject the moral foundations.
We're pleased you like it, Ronald. We don't find it hard to believe the supernatural in religion, partly because we can't see how the natural was created unless there is a supernatural, and partly because of our experience - but we know that not everybody shares our view. 😊
@@ChetValleyChurches An interesting point which I will ponder on.
I also love 'Jerusalem', although I am aware it is a song and not a hymn, but it addresses faith in the context of England.
It might be viewed as idolatry worshipping art but perhaps through poetry, art, music and nature I will come to God.
Thank you for your postings.
We know many people who have been struck by beauty, whether from the created world or the creations of great artists. Some of them start to wonder about that beauty and their wonder can often lead them on a journey; a journey which ends with the divine. Christmas blessings to you. 😊
This was my jam at Tommy and Grace’s wedding 🤘🏼💪🏼🔥

Same
in its simplicity and elegance and peace, this hymn reminds me of the power f faith. I am no longer religious, my faith placed in the hope and daily actions of humanity waking up to how we are separate, yes, but also one, each of us worthy of respect and love and justice and well being.. I do believe in the afterlife, but not in any way that any religion teaches, and I do not hold that there is a hell, for what comes from God cannot be separated forever from God. The power of faith in its simplicity is uplifting on a daily basis yet somehow enhanced during Christmastide.
Thank you for posting this underrated Christmas song! This song has touched my life and really reminding me of the spirit of Christmas once again. Instead of what can I have, what can I give joyfully?
Thank you for sharing this, Richard. 😊🙏
I’m singing this at church today: One of my absolute favorites❤
Listened to this piece several years ago and then by a miracle it was played on UCB2 radio while I drove from Devon back to Manchester and I quickly grabbed the title............This piece brings me peace......God bless!
Excellent. 🙏
Eyes well and sinus clears every time. First heard this at Philadelphia Orchestra and have never gotten over the beauty
We love it too, John. 🙏🙏
Ditto this. I can't even sing the song without welling up. One of the fondest memories of my mother is her singing this.
@@ChetValleyChurches beautiful performance. It's going on my personal Christmas list.

A delightful rendition of a much-loved music setting, with visuals that add to the pleasure. Thank you.
I used to love our school assembly every morning (circa 1970s UK). And especially at Christmas time when we used to sing hymns like this. They've always stuck with me and I'm often humming them, so it's great to hear it on yt. Merry Christmas (circa 2022).

A lovely version of a most beautiful song. Thank you so much for posting this version -- it made my day. Also I appreciate that you posted the lyrics -- not all of us know the words to these beloved songs, and it is wonderful to learn them. Listening was a truly spiritual experience and very uplifting. Really beautiful and reaches your soul.❤
At my primary school we user to sing these hymns. This one and bell of creation were my favourite ones. The bell was easier to find cause I remembered more about the song and the words, unlike this song. So glad I finally found it and all I can say is thank you

This song sounds like falling asleep on my mam’s shoulder in Christmas Eve mass, then going to my grandparents house for dinner, and looking in awe at their strange, old decorations.

It just gives me a strange kind of peace I've never felt. It's like a cold Christmas night, in your own house, celebrating Christmas with your family with hot chocolate and cookies by the fireside. Then a sing-a-long.

Rossetti achieves another contrast in the fourth verse, this time between the incorporeal angels who attend the birth of Christ with Mary's ability to lend Jesus physical affection. This verse is omitted from Harold Darke's version. "Angels and archangels may have gathered there,
Cherubim and seraphim thronged the air;
But his mother only, in her maiden bliss,
Worshiped the beloved with a kiss."
Thank you for sharing this, Carlos. 😊

If the Christian story is true and I believe it to be, when Mary gave birth to Jesus and held Him, she was looking into the very face of God. The thought is simply overwhelming.

Ah bless you! I have just seen this! I remember choosing this beautiful carol on 99IronDuke’s Christmas stream back in December 2021…where did the time go? I was just listening to this beautiful piece of music again and scrolling through the comments. I miss the snow. Christmas in summer is just plain wrong. A very blessed Christmas to you and yours 🥰🥰
So beautiful Chrismas song
So beautiful. I defy people not to feel the emotion in this song. If you can't feel the emotion in this...then...wow. Even just the melody is heartbreaking. And a song about someone who is poor so what can they give Jesus.....their HEART. And obviously a carol remembered by the fighters of war. Made to fight, else you look like a coward yet zero help when the war was over for the mental scars, the nightmares, the memories. Those poor brave men that fought for freedom. But yes 'Peaky Blinders' made me want to hear this again. And 'Ghosts'.
It's good that this has moved you, Lauraaa. War is the opposite of turning the other cheek. 🙏
@@ChetValleyChurches it really is. Would peace exist as it is without war? And the answer I fear is no. But may as many ppl as possible feel peace for whatever reason and may the ppl facing war find hope and solace. We are all with them in mind. ❤️🙏 Ukraine. 🙏 God bless them, the lost and those grieving them. Let's hope peace finds them one day. ❤️

Chinese Lyric for 5 verses version
【1】
In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan,
在那彻骨寒冬 风霜呼啸吹
earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone:
大地坚硬如铜 弱水似磐石
snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow,
雪花漫天飞舞 将万物隐没
in the bleak midwinter, long ago.
在那遥远寒冬 寒彻骨
【2】
Our God, heaven cannot hold him, nor earth sustain;
天地尚且不能 容纳我的主
heaven and earth shall flee away when he comes to reign
若是祂来统领 万物皆俯伏
in the bleak midwinter, a stable place sufficed
然而在那深夜 区区小马厩
the Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ.
降生天地的主 耶稣基督
【3】
Enough for him whom cherubim worship night and day,
基路伯敬拜你 昼夜不停歇
a breastful of milk and a mangerful of hay:
竟被乳养怀中 静卧干草丛
enough for him whom angels fall down before,
众天使曾敬奉 瞻仰你荣光
the ox and ass and camel which adore.
怎栖身马槽中 牛羊环绕
【4】
Angels and archangels may have gathered there,
众圣天使远望 惊叹中歌颂
cherubim and seraphim thronged the air,
天兵列队高唱 救主已降生
but only his mother, in her maiden bliss,
唯独那玛丽亚 将你抱怀中
worshiped the Beloved with a kiss.
轻吻天父爱子 圣洁耶稣
【5】
What can I give him, poor as I am?
困苦贫乏如我 可献上什么?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb,
我若是牧羊人 必献上羊群。
if I were a wise man, I would do my part,
我若是智慧人 必敬奉礼物。
yet what I can I give him, give my heart.
困苦贫乏如我 献上我心
Thank you. 😊

The voicing and the instrumental cancel each other out. The heavy echo doesn’t help. For those of us not familiar trying to follow along is frustrating. Is it poor recording? Perhaps not as I’ve tried to find other covers and it’s all the same. It’s like someone singing in a stairwell because they like the echo. But some one out side just hears a confusing coco phony of notes and voices, blending into each other.
