For those asking check the description before anything else, yes that is indeed the RLCS legend Fairy Peak!, he's been in the comp pokemon scene for just as long as he's been playing RL
I realize it's a high pressure situation with little time to think, but I'm pretty sure even after the leaf blade choke on turn 27, Fairy Peak still could have won. You switch out to weavile and sac it, then bring back in pex. After 1 regenerator, it can eat up the +1 leaf blade. If you have knock off on it, that seals the win, since dragapult can flamethrower twice and win with the scarf gone. If it doesn't, you can still cross fingers on 30% scald burn. If you get it, with the -50% from scald, dragapult can take the +2 leaf blade and clean up.
You're absolutely right, though i think Fairy Peak just thought he'd choked it and kinda gave up when he switched out there. Unfortunate and honestly painful for sure, but France clinched the title regardless so it's all good
Kart's 181 attack after a beast boost does a ton with leaf blade, and it's a high crit move too. I don't know the calc but it'd be close, and dependent on if he has the knock off, since he's using scald he might not. fc could predict that too, go into Melmetal , click Earthquake and win the game because i think it kills Pult on switch-in now. better to let Weavile die as you said, bring in Pex, instantly double back into Dragapult on the Melmetal, as staying in to knock off Pex with Kartana won't deal much damage as he already removed it's item. then you're in the winning position, and leaf blade only kills Kartana with a crit, so you stay in and win if no crit, and win if he kills Pult with knock-off as Pex will be at 100% from that double switch, and knock off is 65 base power now; you scald Kartana to death. it was a 50/50 for both players to win on the spot back when Fairy switched out his Pult on a leaf blade. if he stayed in he won on the spot. I understand the pull to switch-out there, if you let Dragapult die there i'm pretty sure you lose the match 100% of the time. 75%+ of the time i'd make the same switch Fairy did because i don't have the balls to lose on the spot, but fc did, and won because of it.
@@Baratheon. I hadn't considered the double to melmetal after bringing pex back in after sac'ing weavile. You're right about it being risky to throw a knock-off in that case (if he has it). In that case, scald still beats melmetal since EQ isn't enough to break pex, even without burn, on the standard EV pex / AV melmetal sets (assuming those are being used). Pulls the winrate down to 30/70, but still better than nothing. If pult dies to knock off on turn 27, I think the game comes down to scald burn again for Pex vs Kartana, and no leaf blade crits. Risky either way.
@@michaelbradet-legris5739 assuming its max hp/max def Pex +def nature, standard Melmetal AV & leftovers run adamante 204atk (maybe more on AV), which does 44-52% to Pex, meaning even max def investment you'll be recovering every turn or risk death, so you'd have to get the scald burn on a melmetal switch-in or you play a 'wait for a crit' vs 'wait for a low roll to scald' game which i'd say is a losing game as he doesn't have any leftovers recovery on the Pex. the point wouldn't be to necessarily win with Melmetal there either, but to burn recovery pp and hope to get him half health so leaf blade finishes him off with Kartana, and with the boost you finish Dragapult with leaf blade as well.
Is this the same "Fairy Peak!" Who plays professional Rocket League for Team Vitality? Normally I'd just assume it's a coincidence but they're both French.

He's an insanely talented gamer. One of the best Rocket League pros of all time in 1s, 2s, and 3s, while also managing to be a top level Pokemon player. Guy's a nut.
idk if it was due to pressure maybe more of just a misread as, fairy peak has had a lot more pressure then in this situation and has always brought the ice
@@haydenwhite5877 It could have been them rushing because of excitement or smth, idk. But if they thought about it for a bit more they would have realized that there was no way staying was not the play
im not that surprised for the outcome. Fairy's entire team struggles with band beat up weaile, scarf kartana is just THE threat you need to be aware of. in my opinion, G zapdos is very essential to counter both weaile and kartana, and i'll try to sac weaile instead of g-zapdos. but it seems like Fairy and I did not share the same opinion, i would definely not click those u-turns on static zapdos.
Spoiler? What twist! FP almost had it, but probably thought that they would pick Knock instead of just Leaf Blade. Fc managed to keep this simple, though, and made the right decision. Pretty hyped for the coming games.
@@sephikong8323 Weav dies to Leaf Blade, so the result is pretty much the same: It gets the Atk boost from its ability which then allows it to sweep. The right play was to just stay in, dodge the crit and Flamethrower back.

@@sephikong8323 Nah, if they were to Knock for whatever reason, they would also lose because then Pex walls them both. He should’ve stayed in with Dragapult vs Kartana, but by switching to Toxapex and getting Leaf Bladed he gave Kartana a Beast Boost that guaranteed that they killed Dragapult with a second LB. He had to risk the crit Leaf Blade with Dragapult and take out the Kartana.
yeah even if kartana used knock off instead and killed dragapult, u could always go toxapex next turn because even a +1 knock off is too weak to break toxapex. Then after that toxapex beats both kartana and melmetal easily. Little extra help from weavile too if needed
