My all-time favorite Joe vehicle!
Christmas of '83 was the best Christmas in the history of ever because a Skystriker was under the tree for me.
I've got a nice complete one in my collection and I'm currently customizing one with black fins, a more detailed cockpit, and the ability to have the wings swept back while the landing gear is down.
Not to be picky, but those are not “bombs” but rather Phoenix air to air missiles that are very long range. If I’m not mistaken, they are fire &forget.
I live in the Dominican Republic and always wanted this particular toy back in 1987. Back then my father was visiting NYC and I sent to him a letter with a GI-JOE catalog and circled the Sky-striker, asked him to get this for me. Seems he could not find it and brought me the Conquest X-30. I was a little disappointed at the beginning, but ended playing and enjoying my new toy.
Just backed the Haslab Skystriker and now I am trying to find as many videos on the Skystriker I can find. Well done! I missed out as a kid so I am so glad I am getting one now :)
My dad had the 90's gijoe f-16 jet. Growing up it was one of my favorites to play.
OK, OK... Now I got to get one of these for my collection. Your video pushed me over the edge. I had a Skystriker as a child, but my original disappeared years ago. I really did enjoy this toy and especially the figure Ace. He was my go to Joe. Thanks for this wonderful retrospective and the great addition of a PSA ad. Best to you.
Awesome video Tony. I had the Skystriker when I was 10. And now I only have all of the parts bombs, seat, tail fins, and canopy. Oh and 2 Ace figures. Love it man.
For some reason as a kid I was much more about the action figures when it came to GI Joe then the vehicles but I absolutely had to have one of these. Got one for Christmas one year and it was one of my favorite toys of all time. Great video
I'm proud to say I have both the original...And the re-release!
Phoenix missiles are not bombs, they are considered long range, radar controlled, fire and forget air to air missiles, and not bombs. The A and B version didn't have the capability to do that, until way after it's original release. I should know, I was in a F14 squadron.
so enjoying these video.s though i kid of 60/70 s i can still love toys from any age .and widh there more video.s on action force and the small figures from that line col
I just acquired a loose vintage G.I.Joe Sky Striker Jet with Ace from 1983 at a place called Kokomo Toys in Kokomo, Indiana this past Saturday! The Sky Striker is 90% complete! It has everything except the 2 parachutes which I will probably buy from Ebay eventually! The Sky Striker I bought has seen a lot of action throughout the years because the wings are bent a bit but thankfully they can still fold! I keep my Ace and Ripcord figures in my Sky Striker with Ace as the pilot of course and Ripcord as the navigator! Even though I collect G.I.Joe toys and am now in my early 30s, I still can't help but to also play with my loose vintage G.I.Joe toys I have on display in my room because even though I had G.I.Joe toys growing up, I never had any of the 80s G.I.Joe figures and I never had any female figures but now I have figures of my favorite G.I.Joe characters and toys of some of my favorite G.I.Joe vehicles from the cartoon and I finally have female characters including Scarlett, Cover Girl, Baroness, Lady Jaye, and Jinx! I feel like I am living the dream of owning my favorite G.I.Joe toys that I never had growing up but I have pretty much run out of room on my dresser for more G.I.Joe toys but I'm not done collecting yet!
I got the British action force version the stickers were sparse mostly red white and blues stripes with a couple of action force stickers compared with the gi joe version which looks spectacular in comparison
Question did your cockpit smell odd, I had the same version and everytime I opened the canopy "whiff'O!" Really odd odour 🤢
I knew a boy that had one of these growing up. It was impressive how detailed it was, right down to the no step stickers he had to put on the wings.
I used to have one of these as a kid. Unfortunately it's been lost to the passage of time.
Even the striker in the commercials had black tail fins.
Great video 5/5!
Hope you'll do one on the Conquest X-30.
I think Wild Bill looks creepier than the guy trying to lure the kid!
Its a moustache thing...
Given that Ace was a U. S. Air Force officer, its ironic that the Skystriker was modeled after the US Navy’s F-14A Tomcat; it would’ve made more sense had it been based after the F-15/F-15E Eagle; at least he got the X-16 later on, modeled after the USAF F-16 Fighting Falcon.
Ok, I have to be that guy, sorry. But the AIM 54 Phoenix was a long range, high speed MISSILE. Not a bomb. It's not the reason, I'm sure for it not having a "bomb" drop feature but the Skystriker did not carry any bombs.
Thank you I didn't really wanna be that guy to. 😅
Also at first I thought they were maverick air-to-ground missiles but then remembered the AIM-54 was a thing.
Along with Bart, I'm curious about your score as well. What would push this toy all the way to 5 for you?
Darn I had two of these I broke one as a kid and I donated one but I want one now
Wasn't that headmaster trying to pick up those kids?
Skystriker didn't have bombs, the pheonix is a very, very long range air/air missile.
Clearly he misspoke... He called them by the correct name, he just said _bomb_ instead of _missile._ Don't be that guy.
I'm just curious, why did you give this toy a 4 out of 5?
Thank you sir. :)
I think the skystriker is a fantastic toy, I just feel it needed one more play feature to push it all the way to five. As a kid I always wanted some sort of trigger mechanism to release bombs.
Oh I see. I get it. Thanks for the reply sir. :)
:)
I too own one. It is my first major G.I.Joe vehicle. But what I didn't like with mine, is that It can't hold more than 2 Joes. Well, umm.... it would be silly to put foot pegs around and on it. Hehehe
As a kid I didn't like the fact that it only carried two Joes as well...
I have a better reason than that. The only way to have the landing gear down is to have the wings extended. The wings should have been folded in when the wheels are down and up when they are extended. Seems Hasbro did this mechanism in reverse.
Yeah Deviax, that landing gear mechanism also gives us a problem with display options. :)
In today’s money, $14.99 is $39.86 or £28.80
have you seen the 1/18 JSI/Merit int.? omgosh check it out
5! Kids don't get that level of toys anymore
$14.99 was about the equivalent of $49.99 today. No wonder my parents told me they were broke all the time.
I wonder if the new Top Gun: Maverick movie will inspire kids to want military toys like GI Joe again. Fads go in cycles, so I imagine it is possible, as unlikely as it seems that "woke" kids would want to play with military inspired toy lines.
Cringe so hard when you called a aim54 phoneix a bomb
Why? Because he should have used the word missile? Don't that guy. You know that the generic term bomb means something that blows up.
