I watched this with my dad to show him Game Grumps and the only thing he did the whole time was point out all the secrets they didn't get and glitches they didn't try. My dads in his 50's and hes the biggest gamer in the universe.
I miss the abrupt endings. Something about cutting a video one frame too short is always hilarious for some reason.
Agreed. I like the Game Grumps trying something new--I always respect that. And I can see this new outro opening up a possibility for some great jokes. And we still kind of have the abrupt ending BEFORE the ending. I don't like it either, but I worry this is another Danny situation; where the Game Grumps try to change something and I just freak out because I don't like change and then it turns out to be better than the old formula after I get used to it. I'll wait and see if it grows on me.

Are you serious? Are you...SERIOUS? Jon leaving was a HUGE change to the show. This ending is like a 0.0000001% modification to the show...in fact it's basically the same exact thing with something extra tacked onto the end. The two things don't even begin to compare. You people really need to learn to accept change or life is going to swallow you whole one day. Things are going to happen to you that you don't like, and you're going to have to live with it. Start getting used to it.
Minister of Silly Walks I don't think it's the same. It feels like the whole Danny situation has made people paranoid about voicing their opinion on stuff, because you always get the 'SHUT UP, JUST ACCEPT CHANGE' replies. With the sudden co-host change, most people knew Danny would grow on them eventually, it just felt too much too soon for a lot of people. It's like replacing Kramer on Seinfeld with Samuel L. Jackson, it'd be way too jarring. The whole end slate thing isn't too bad though, I'm not going to pretend that it'll effect how I watch & enjoy GG, but it was almost like a GG tradition to cap off every video in a way. Just my opinion.
It is still there though, I don't see the big deal. Why does everybody feel it is so different?
I'm not a huge fan of the giant banner, but i do kinda like Barry's interludes at the end. Those make me laugh.

I had this game when I was 5, and 4-1 used to REALLY stress me out. Something about not being able to do anything about the Lakitu guy raining death on me. Then I had the same issue years later in SMB3 with the desert level where the angry sun tries to kill you - I always saved my P-Wing for that level so I could skip it.
I used to hate 4-1 as well
Tbh i've never had that much problem with it. It's just I hate lakitu... 4-1 (and 8-1,too i think) were "press b and jump" levels.

bill assburger The P.O box was opened for fan mail and letters, sometimes with a nice treat inside. Once people started finding out that a lot of the games that were sent in got played on the show with a shout out a lot more started to do it. It also shows the loyalty and respect that a viewer has for the two by sending in a game, knowing that the enjoy their videos enough and like Arin and Dan so much that they are willing to give up some of their childhood or spend some money on them as a TREAT is nice :)
And about my avatar, I'm not going to change it because it's "outdated", he isn't dead and he's a fucking goofball. Just because a new model of a car came out doesn't mean you trash the old one and get a new one :)

Honestly, I had the opposite reaction. Missing jumps, secrets, wasting time with the star man. He's not bad, decent actually, but I yelled at the screen a few times about stuff he was doing wrong.
But I think it's just the fact that he probably hasn't played in many years and that I play slightly differently.

Brandon Francey I see. I've always fancied myself a real seasoned gamer with all these games. I played the shit out of Mario 2 and 3, but even if I had Mario 1, I never really played it all that much. In fact... nobody I know has ever played it extensively, so the fact remains that we're pretty decent at best at this game.
I didn't think he missed a lot of jumps. I'm not that good with this game, so I don't know all the secrets, and neither does Arin, I suppose... What I'm saying is that I think he's playing really well. Skipping secrets he doesn't know, maybe, but strictly gameplay, I think he's pretty good.
(This is all coming from a perspective of not being that familiar with this game myself. Beaten it, sure... But I don't know that many secrets)
Even when the Game Grumps are doing good in a game, people continue to complain and say they suck.

I think Barry uses audio footage of the two grumps that didn't make it in the episode, that's why they sound so passive. It's like when he puts music or extra grump footage over fast-forwards.

Maybe if they blast through this game they can follow up with SMB2J ("The Lost Levels" - but not the SNES version...) On the one hand, it's little more than a hack of the original Super Mario Bros. with different levels. But that also means that someone who's played SMB but not SMB2J gets a familiar experience but with novel challenges... That'd be fun!
(I know they probably don't have a disk system, and funny as it'd be to watch them sitting at a FDS load screen I think it'd get old, fast.... Fortunately the game's on Wii Virtual Console as well...)

...Arin. Everyone has this game. I have this game, and it came out before I was born. My family never even owned an NES, and we have it.
I don't have it either. But, then again, I was born near the much more modern age of days.

All I got was N64: Super Mario 64, Donkey Kong 64, 64 64. and Gamesphr- Oops, I mean Gamecube: Sanic Adventures 2, Sanic games, Sanic... Oh, and that one snowboarding game, and the fucking....... Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness, and that other... Meh...
The Mario / Duck Hunt cartridge is notorious for how many they produced. NES cartridges are tough, so there is still a ton of them. You can find them anywhere and it's dirt cheap. Arin, being a huge collector of NES games, yet not owning this is kind of hard to believe.

In defense of the outro screen: the top part really doesn't take up that much of the screen, and they don't scream "SUBSCRIBE" at you, it's just a simple button. And I think the links to the previous an next parts are pretty helpful (since I get a bunch of unrelated bullshit in my suggestions bar instead of their videos..).
There's no logical reason I can see for people to be upset about it. If they start yelling "subscribe, like, share" at the end, I'd get pretty irritated, but I don't think they will...
I'm really happy they don't scream subscribe at the end of every episode. Now I'm ok with it.
It angers me, along with a lot of other people, because the abrupt endings were perfectly complimented by the sudden black screen. Now it's ruined because 1. You know it's coming 2. It does take up a lot of the screen 3. They talk after the show ends so it's pretty damn stupid if they still do the sudden endings.

Games that both Dan and Arin play, like these older Mario ones, are super fun. I kinda hope they do Lost Levels at some point.
They drew attention to it because it was a new feature. People would also give out if they didn't acknowledge it. It was either a new directive from Polaris or maybe Barry wanted to introduce it and thought it'd be a nice touch. It was never obnoxious.

Fire them? First of all Suzy is Arin's WIFE, second of all Arin didn't hire Ross and Danny, he asked them to be on the show and they are very close friends. One trick I always remember in 1-2: If you find the spot right after the beginning part where the wall hangs down low and is 2 blocks thick, you can break the first 2 blocks on the leftmost column, walk forward until half the leftmost block column is off-screen, then go back, jump in the gap. Instead of falling back down, it acts like you're standing on the missing blocks, then you can jump and break blocks all the way to the top and run across the top of the map, skipping the entire rest of the level.
And then you skip the next 3 worlds.

I love hearing the reverent nostalgia in Danny's voice as he tells the story about his first encounter with the original NES and how it kept him up all night with excitement. Danny, you're awesome story-teller. Arin, I love listening to you and I honestly love just about everything you're in, but this was (oddly) a little tough to sit through for most of the episode. This felt super heavy-handed on what seemed like forced-comedy. Your typical conversational style, Arin, is 1000 times better. Part of what is so appealing about most of your shows on the GameGrumps channel is that they remind me of what it was like to be able to just sit and play games with my friends. Those were good times, simple times. Your show is like a little break from the monotony of "adulthood". I totally understand that with as many of these as you're having to crank out (in order for it to be lucrative) that it might be getting more and more difficult to draw from the well of personal experiences, etc., to relate to the audience, but you guys just being you is funny as fuck and relatable in itself. I dunno. You guys're funny as hell, and I love the surface impression that I get from all of you. This is totally meant to be constructive feedback, but regardless, keep doing what you do. I'll keep watching. -Reed
my dad still has our old nes from 20 years ago... with mario. when i visited him a while ago i just sat down and played it... i jumped at one of those stone goombas in the desert levels, but although i hit it from above, it killed me and with my nowadays knowledge about video games i was like "thats so glitched! that shouldnt happen! poorly programmed!" and my dad was just like "no, i think you just suck." xDDD
I duno why, but when it comes to mario games, I prefer the NES over the All-Stars one on SNES... the remakes just don't look, sound and feel like it... you know, like "IT", the IT... Like... other NES games didn't age that well, but SNES games are timeless, but in case of mario (super mario bros., super mario bros. 2 and super mario bros. 3) I just prefer the NES over the SNES... Yeah, I know, the all-stars version has the "lost levels" / real super mario bros. 2... and you can get it with super mario world on one cartridge if you're lucky, which is awesome... but... BUT! (butt)

Marzen64 My main thoughts are about all of the times that Jon and Arin were absolutely drooling over the nintendo consoles and games, as if nothing could ever compete. That's just me. Not sure if it has been interpreted the same way by the regular folk.

The fireworks at the end of the level is tied to the timer. If the last number is a 6 you get six fireworks. 3 for three fireworks and 1 for one.

Seems to be a pretty fun NES game. Sure, its underground music is repetitive and it doesn't hold a candle to games like NES Mega Man games, Noah's Ark or Adventure Island IV but it's still pretty solid. I like that you can kill the enemies with the shells but it can backfire on you.

They'd probably enjoy rom hacks of the NES Mario games. You can get them on real carts even, so why not? A lot of them are really fun. Mario with new levels. It's like having entirely new Mario games to play.
Arin if you really wanted to impress Dan you should have done the wall glitch at the end of world 1-2 (how people usually get into the minus world)

George Mcqueen In the original Super mario bros (on the NES not the all stars remake) before going through the pipe to finish the underground portion, there's the walkway to warp zone.
You stand on the pipe that lets you finish the level normally and break some bricks leaving one brick right infront of the pipe as it scales up. face away from that brick and duck jump back into the corner. If you done it right Mario will slide through the wall and drop into warp zone. But instead of pushing the screen to trigger the room, quickly go down the first green pipe and it will take you to world -1 which is an infinite looping water level (based on 7-2)
The Famicom Disk System version is a bit more interesting that is made up of 3 levels and glitchy sprites including a headless bowser.
