It would still be just as hard to qualify for the WTC final. Under the status quo only NZ, RSA, Aus and India have come close to qualifying. All these teams would be in Div 1. You could argue it would actually be harder. South Africa have qualified by playing mostly weaker teams. This path to the final would no longer be available.

When I listen to these explanations one gets the sense that the top teams are about revenue for their country and nothing else. The lesser nations will never reach the levels of the big teams because they do not have the population size, resources at present. The top teams are forgetting that at one time they were the lesser teams and needed to play with everyone to gain status. Ever other global sport is trying to develop smaller nations but cricket and a isolating and creating classism

I don't understand one think every team has so many good players that many of them doesn't get enough opportunity to perform on international stage.... Why every team doesn't have 2 teams...? The problem for some players is they are playing so much cricket while others are not even getting single chance.... Like Australia doesn't have played against Zimbabwe, Bangladesh for over a decade bcoz Australia have an excuse that they doesn't have enough time to play against these countries so if Australia have 2 teams one will play against elite teams and other will play against bottom tier teams....
So hear me out There should be relegation n promotion system Where bottom 2 teams from top 6(tier 1) gets relegated to bottom 6 N top 2 teams from bottom 6 (tier 2) gets promoted in tier 1 Every cycle So this gives rest of 4 team from tier 1.. a motive to finish in top 4 N teams in bottom 6 , a motive to finish top 2 in tier2 So that they can quality for WTC next cycle. Australia will not support ANY changes which revoke the WTC. CA, or the ACB as it used to be, have been looking at something like this on and off for at least four decades. Even before that, when Bradman ran the show. This is why the individual series trophies matter so much for us. We want a trophy associated with every series, the Ashes, the BGT, the Frank Warrell etc. This gives context and meaning to Test cricket. This current batch of Aussie Cricketers, and the people currently running CA too, LOVE this new WTC thing.... ....the current team has stated that retention of the WTC is their primary aim this year. Pat Cummins has said they've spoken about it a lot, and they love it, and they want to defend and retain it, it is a 'big one'.... a big one, even in a home Ashes year. There SHOULD be a tier system, on a FOUR YEAR cycle, the first two years, everyone plays everyone at least once, in one off Tests or full series, depending.... to determine the tiers, this should include Afghanistan and Ireland too. The top six after two years, go in to tier one, and are playing the next two years for a place in the WTC final. The bottom six, are playing to finish top of the league in Tier Two... because, if they DO, they should get promoted, room being made by the WORST of the Tier One teams, being RELEGATED to Tier Two, for the NEXT four year cycle. Hell, if you wanted to keep players from burnout, and leave enough room for T20i, T20 pro leagues, and ODI cricket, you could do it on a SIX year cycle. All the teams playing each other at least once, in the first three years, but over three years, leaving enough time for off seasons, T20i and ODI, and pro leagues, then the next three years, the tiers once decided, play off for either promotion if tier two, or the WTC if tier one. My plan which I think is fair. 12 teams 2 divisions, with promotion and relegation. 4 series vs your division (2 home and away) and 2 cross divisional series (1 home, 1 away). Each division gets a final with the winner of division 2 getting promoted. Any plan that removes position by merit shouldn't even get a chance to be voted on. Need to do something about 2 match series v 5 match series but idk how to resolve the two very conflicting positions.

What if each series was a MINIMUM of 3 tests (and if it was longer, only the last 3 count to the WTC) and each team MUST play each of the other 8 teams once in a cycle... with 3-match series, the results would be 3-0-0, 2-0-1, 2-1-0, 1-0-2, 1-1-1, 1-2-0, 0-0-3, 0-1-2, 0-2-1, or 0-3-0 [w-l-d for the home side, ties are very rare and would attract 4 points at home, 5 away]... so points could awarded as follows 5 points for a home win, 2 points for a home draw, 3 points for an away draw, 6 points for an away win. Also 2 points for the series win (1 each for a series draw) This would mean in each of the scenarios above the following would be awarded (home team first): 17-0, 14-3, 12-6, 11-6, 8-9, 5-14, 7-10, 4-14, 2-17, or 0-20... At the end of the cycle a one off match could be played between the 2nd & 3rd placed teams... the winner (or 2nd place if it's drawn) goes to play the top placed team for the championship.

Why will World Test Championship end? In fact 2-tier system will provide more opportunities to smaller nations to play test. Relegation and promotion rules can be implemented. This means that bottom 2 teams in Tier-1 gets relegated to Tier-2 and top 2 teams in Tier-2 gets promoted. Or maybe, the bottom 2 Tier-1 teams fight with top 2 Tier-2 teams to protect their position. Same as it happens in football. WTC will still be valid for the Tier-1 teams. Tier-1 can accommodate 8 countries while Tier-2 can have 6 countries. In this way, more teams will get opportunity to play international cricket.

2 tier System Bakwas I enjoyed when India travel in South Africa/Westindies/Srilanka/Bangladesh. Current WTC format is the best format for sustainability of test cricket. If we want the relevance of test cricket so don't need to be shrinked. It just need to add 2 knockout's semi final 1 and semi final 2. That become more interesting. At the end of the 2 year a teams those qualifying at position1 to 4 according to the percentile that teams qualifying for the semis. A team those who finished at position 1 they will play against, a team those who finished at position 3 in semi final 1. A team those who finish at the position 2 they will compete against position 4th team at semi final 2. And if India continuously travel Australia and England and frequently playing against them, so these serie's also turn into a boring and irrelevant.
Why should other countries (200-12 test countries) care about test cricket? Let it remain with 3 countries as you three use 80% of total ICC revenues. And the game will slowly die. Otherwise we need to promote more teams as test nations. We have to grow the games. Don’t only focus on revenue.

I like the WTC and believe it has rejigged alot of interest in test match series, I for one watched Aus V India, followed by S Africa Vs Pakistan and there was quality, i'm in zombie mode having gone over 14 hrs watching these games. A 2 tier system is interesting, but would create a massive divide due to various political stances. If there was a relegation and promotion element that would defo get me interested, but again there are logistical issues, i.e. test series for some teams being 2 match series, others 3, other 5... this just creates an element of complexity. So unless we say there will only be a 3 match test series, a point system that is simple like Football with relegation and promotion in line and every country willing to play each other if they are in the same tier then I am all for it. But I feel Cricket at the moment is overall in a bad state, so until the issues are fixed i'd prefer to stick with the WTC

Dude the disrespect against South Africa this past week is not good. People are blaming Cricket SA for our easy road to the final but it's the big 3 and ICC's fault. Why will World Test Championship end? In fact 2-tier system will provide more opportunities to smaller nations to play test. Relegation and promotion rules can be implemented. This means that bottom 2 teams in Tier-1 gets relegated to Tier-2 and top 2 teams in Tier-2 gets promoted. Or maybe, the bottom 2 Tier-1 teams fight with top 2 Tier-2 teams to protect their position. Same as it happens in football. WTC will still be valid for the Tier-1 teams.
Tier-1 can accommodate 8 countries while Tier-2 can have 6 countries. In this way, more teams will get opportunity to play international cricket.

Current WTC format is the best format for sustainability of test cricket. If we want the relevance of test cricket so don't need to be shrinked.
It just need to add 2 knockout's semi final 1 and semi final 2. That become more interesting.
At the end of the 2 year a teams those qualifying at position1 to 4 according to the percentile that teams qualifying for the semis.
A team those who finished at position 1 they will play against, a team those who finished at position 3 in semi final 1.
A team those who finish at the position 2 they will compete against position 4th team at semi final 2.
And if India continuously travel Australia and England and frequently playing against them, so these serie's also turn into a boring and irrelevant.
This change is long overdue. ICC and BCCI are very slow to implement new changes that are needed. Welcome change at last.

Why should other countries (200-12 test countries) care about test cricket? Let it remain with 3 countries as you three use 80% of total ICC revenues. And the game will slowly die. Otherwise we need to promote more teams as test nations. We have to grow the games. Don’t only focus on revenue.

Watching tests in Aus or Eng is amazing purely because of their broadcasters Fox/ Sky sports. On the other hand Indian television viewing experience is the worst with Star sports. Commentators in star sports wouldn’t speak for a minute about any technicalities rather just hero worship .

I like the WTC and believe it has rejigged alot of interest in test match series, I for one watched Aus V India, followed by S Africa Vs Pakistan and there was quality, i'm in zombie mode having gone over 14 hrs watching these games. A 2 tier system is interesting, but would create a massive divide due to various political stances.
If there was a relegation and promotion element that would defo get me interested, but again there are logistical issues, i.e. test series for some teams being 2 match series, others 3, other 5... this just creates an element of complexity. So unless we say there will only be a 3 match test series, a point system that is simple like Football with relegation and promotion in line and every country willing to play each other if they are in the same tier then I am all for it.
But I feel Cricket at the moment is overall in a bad state, so until the issues are fixed i'd prefer to stick with the WTC
