  • Italy Vlog episode 3: LE MARCHE, ITALY. This is the third episode from our road trip through Italy. In the previous two episodes we visited classic sights, such as the Colosseum and Vatican City and tried some of the best restaurants in Rome, from innovative slices of Pizza, to delicious pasta and truffle dishes.
    In this video we arrive in Le Marche (aka the Marches), which is a region on the east coast of Italy. We spend a great day driving around Le Marche, trying out local specialities, enjoying stunning views and exploring the medieval towns of Ascoli Piceno and Ripatransone.
    Most tourists visiting Italy will know the famous regions of Tuscany or Umbria, but Le Marche is often overlooked. The people that do visit, however, tend to fall in love with the region, so we were very excited to explore it ourselves! The Marches are often compared to Tuscany, as they both have stunning hilly landscapes, lots of medieval towns and local specialities. But as tourism isn’t as prominent yet and the region is also heavily influenced by its proximity to the coast, visiting Le Marche offers a unique experience in Italy.
    ➡️ Subscribe if you want to come along for the journey!
    🇮🇹
    After our stay in Le Marche, we’ll drive to Tuscany, where we’ll be staying close to Montepulciano and San Gimignano. Our road trip ends in Florence, where we’ll also spend a few days.

    ascoli piceno was founded by the piceni which were a pre-roman civilization spawned from the sabini,the sabini,who lived in central italy, would send youngsters to look for another place to settle and legend says that a woodpecker would guide them to their new home,that is why the symbol of the marche is the woodpecker. the piceni were then conquered by the romans . originally it was called asculum then asculum picenum by julius ceaser .their area would include what is now the marche region and part of abruzzo

    I enjoyed your video! It's helpful to most travelers when you pronounce the names of towns and cities as they would be pronounced in their country, in this case AScolee pi-CHAY-no.

    It looks like you're having an amazing time on your trip, Zoe and Simon! Pistachio Nutella gelato... I have yet to come across that here in Sicily, I would die! 😍 I know how rich the Nutella with the pistachio Nutella must be, it dries out your throat a bit! 😂 How was it driving around the Fiat 500? My wife and I are wanting to get one 🚗 Awesome video, guys!

    Thank you for posting this videos, they are really helpful in planning my trip through Tuscany (July this year!). I've been wanting to rent a 500 cabrio like the one you're using, but have had no luck in my (admittedly poor) research. Would you mind sharing where you rented yours? Thanks!

    • @ZoeandSimon
      @ZoeandSimon  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you, we're glad you enjoyed the video 🙂 We rented our car in Rome at the central station, the place is called Sicily by Car. We returned it in Florence and everything went smoothly. I guess it was a bit of luck that we actually got the car we had booked and also because there were less tourists around in general. The 500 cabrio is definitely stylish, although it isn't the best car if you have to drive it on steep and rocky roads, so just beware of that 😁

      @@ZoeandSimon Thanks for the reply! You're right, I might be valuing style over function here. I read some bad reviews from sicily by car, so I'm glad to hear from someone with no problems with the company! I will evaluate my options. Thanks again!

    I may have misunderstood the English, but Ascoli is not "a very old 13th century town". It already existed before Rome. According to some historians, it was founded 1600 years before Rome, and therefore is about 4500 years old. 😎

    • @ZoeandSimon
      @ZoeandSimon  2 роки тому

      No, that's a mistake on our part - of course Ascoli is much older! I think we wanted to say that many of the towns's buildings, like the Palazzo dei Capitani del Popolo that we were standing in front of were originally built in the 13th century and then we mixed up the dates in the heat of the moment 🙈

    ive been going to le Marche since I was born !!!!! my dad is 58 and has been going every summer since he was 21 !!!!!! it really is a second home to me and my happy place for sure !!!!!
    just to let you know, im sure you do by now: 'ch' in italian is pronounced 'k', and the letter c is pronounced 'k' before a, o or u and like 'ch' before e or i, so for the word Piceno, as in Ascoli Piceno, it is pronounced PiCHeno :D

      Oh that's very nice, we loved our time in le Marche! So many cool towns to explore 🙂 Yes, we've been reminded a few times now about the proper pronounciation, so we're hopefully well prepared now for next time 😁
