Gold is for the mistress - silver for the maid" -
Copper for the craftsman cunning at his trade! "
" Good! " said the Baron, sitting in his hall,
But Iron - Cold Iron - is master of them all."
So he made rebellion 'gainst the King his liege,
Camped before his citadel and summoned it to siege.
" Nay! " said the cannoneer on the castle wall,
" But Iron - Cold Iron - shall be master of you all!"
Woe for the Baron and his knights so strong,
      When the cruel cannon-balls laid 'em all along;
He was taken prisoner, he was cast in thrall,
And Iron - Cold Iron - was master of it all.
Yet his King spake kindly (ah, how kind a Lord!)
" What if I release thee now and give thee back thy sword? "
" Nay! " said the Baron, " mock not at my fall,
For Iron - Cold Iron - is master of men all."
" Tears are for the craven, prayers are for the clown
Halters for the silly neck that cannot keep a crown."
" As my loss is grievous, So my hope is small,
For Iron - Cold Iron - must be master of men all! "
Yet his King made answer (few such Kings there be!) "
Here is Bread and here is Wine - sit and sup with me.
Eat and drink in Mary's Name, the whiles I do recall
How Iron - Cold Iron - can be master of men all."
He took the Wine and blessed it. He blessed and brake the Bread
With His own Hands He served Them, and presently He said:
" See! These Hands they pierced with nails, outside My city wall,
Show Iron - Cold Iron - to be master of men all. "
" Wounds are for the desperate, blows are for the strong.
Balm and oil for weary hearts all cut and bruised with wrong.
I forgive thy treason - I redeem thy fall
For Iron Cold Iron - must be master of men all! "
'Crowns are for the valiant - sceptres for the bold!
Thrones and Powers for mighty men who dare to take and hold!'
" Nay! " said the Baron, kneeling in his hall,
" But Iron - Cold Iron - is master of men all!
Iron out of Calvary is master of men all! "

And thus we two became parts of the game, and the laws of the game became nomic and open to change by our influence. And I had only one purpose and one principle in the game. And I could do nothing but continue to enact that purpose, because it was all that I was and ever would be.

For sure it is an event, but the great surprise there was that the americans did not expect their much weaker enemy to strike them on their own territory. It wasnt the first attack on civilians ever or anything of the sort, to anyone living in a country at war, that fear is present, and even more so when the two sides are closer in strenght. So there are certainly a lot of moments in history of much greater worldwide fear than that one and others of much greater significance as well. Not to undermine the importance of it for the families of the victims and etc, but even the pandemics of 2020 seem like a much heavier strike.

Garabonciás- A wandering mage-like fairy from Hungarian folklore that goes around testing people's character, rewarding them if he finds them admirable and punishing them by summoning dragons if they act poorly. Often in the shape of a young, poor student or beggar. In Changeling form, a person with great morals who wants others to do good, and cannot tolerate selfishness.

49:30 One thing I like about Old WoD is the existence of Rage Across Appalachia, a sourcebook about my region of origin. It talks about not only the Duchy of Blue Grasses and the Duchy of Appalachia, but the various werewolf tribes that keep cairns in the Qualla Boundary, Cumberland Plateau, and other ritual sites. It definitely still has that 90s WoD edginess to it, but for a work of art that was made by people outside the area, I appreciate that it was a good faith effort to change the perspective of a place that's usually considered the butt of jokes into something beautiful and wonderful. I got a copy of it for my Storyteller as a gift recently, just in case it sparked any inspiration for them.
In terms of the fey folk around my home, the ones in Rage Across Appalachia are relevant, both nunnahi and kithain. While she's most likely a Wraith of some variety, it's not impossible that the Pink Lady of the Grove Park Inn could be some manner of changeling, living there and keeping up the myth as a way to obtain glamour.

Think about it this way, ADHD wouldn't be that discernable at the time, nor would most forms of learning disabilities actually... hinder the types of work commoners were doing. If you give someone with Downs a sickle, they are just as capable of reaping a harvest as anyone else, and given that people would need to have like... a dozen children to ensure a couple would make it to adulthood, it seems very unlikely that they would kill a child for being weird looking and not too bright. @@TheBurgerkrieg "Cold iron is not what most modern humans think of as iron.
Stainless steel or cast iron do not produce the same effects when
used as weapons against changelings. Only iron ore heated over a
charcoal flame can produce cold iron - the substance produced is
more commonly known as wrought iron in the modern world. This
black metal can be hammered into virtually any shape, including
weapons. Large weapons made of cold iron, such as swords, are
brittle and do not hold an edge well, and are typically unwieldy,
adding 1 or 2 to the difficulty of combat rolls made with them. If the
user botches this roll, the weapon breaks. Smaller examples of cold
iron weapons do not suffer this penalty, so the most common uses
of cold iron as a weapon are as daggers, arrowheads, and the like."
This is from the Cold Iron section in C20, but yeah I was probably too rude with the other guy, and it going "Cold iron is produced over Coal Flame" then stating that the substance is also known as Wrought Iron is certainly confusing, especially since Wrought Iron is mostly produced through a process known as Puddling which does not use Charcoal. Blurring it a lot. I can certainly see the appeal in making everything Wrought Iron act as Cold Iron, makes for more deadly games and helps set the mood that you are in a world that is moving in a way hostile to you. Personally I still use the classic Cold Iron process where it must be produced over Charcoal Fire to make Cold Iron feel more special and dangerous when encountered

The Mohawk, on the other hand, were bastards who got what was coming to them.
Of course the people who betrayed former allies also cast the Central Plains tribes as bad as the Mohawk, and the West Coast tribes much the same. Really only the Mohawk were even close to as bad as the brush they painted all native Americans with. Every tribe were unique. Some were betrayed allies that were betrayed. Some were nomadic people struggling to keep a way of life that conflicted with settlements and farming. Some were just people we rolled up on and killed to take their stuff. Only the Mohawk could reasonably be described as savages, but we called every other tribe that anyways.

The Changeling mythos seems like a kind of archaic animism, whereby all phenomena are infused with spirit.
Sociologically, it could be useful in bridging the gap between human agency and random chance. It could save people from the dangers of overidentification when they experience extreme circumstances.
Too often people are written off as fundamentally defective when outcomes do not match the expectations. For example, instead of being branded as mentally deficient and essentially useless in and of themselves when they perform poorly in school, they just need to search for their personal tutorial spirit. Who may or may not give a shit about grammar, math or coloring inside the lines, generally.
This sort of mythos respects diversity and creates resilience. It creates dignity and engagement.
In other words, I think Banality is more about spiritual monoculture rather than an absolute lack of spirit. As you yourself say, the odd Boggan who can derive Glamour from accounting does exist, as rare as they may be.

Considering the Kelpie turns into a horse to then drag you beneath the water in order to drown you, the connection sort of remains.

The forested hills bend in just the wrong way, giving a kind of catastrophically wrong energy to the whole city. So is the lore about vampires and werewolves being fallen changed dream land creators real? I know WOD is based in lore being changeable but this makes me very curious. It feels like each of these game lines seems to reveal more and more of the world and shows the previous game lines assumptions to be at least fairly incorrect. Like hunters are just regular humans who have a basic understanding of monsters, vampires have some but not much knowledge about themselves, wraiths understand death, and mages and technocrats seem to have deep knowledge about so many of the functions of reality. Only for fairy to go and change all of that lore again. Basically I am confused and I think that’s the point.

As a general rule of thumb, it's quite likely that most WoD splats are the closest to the mark for their own history but tend to try using it to explain everything, even though they usually get at least something wrong. This is especially true with the changelings given that they are, on average super prideful about their heritage, and so most likely adapted some stuff.
While there's no consensus between chronicles and yours can certainly be whatever you like (mine has around 20 vampires [+ probably Caine in torpor in the caves] in my city because it only has a single prince who hunts any other vampire in the area in the supplements, and that didn't really fit what I wanted), it's generally reasonable to conclude that:
      • Caine killed his brother, made out with his dad's ex, and was cursed by The One Above, then sired 3 childe and they basically fucked everyone who has blood that's a bit too tasty.
      • The underworld is composed of memories and is constantly circling the drain of OBLIVION. Also there's like ghosts that are totally friendly and aren't slaves being forced to do horrific acts in order to not get thrown in the soul forges...
      • Changelings and Fae are created from the dreams of humans and are kinda trapped in a world vaguely reminiscent of the build up to the Oxygen Holocaust...
      • The Fallen are demons who are escaping from literal hell.
      • Hunters are regular mortals, some of whom were imbued with some edgy powers by the voices... in their heads? Outside their heads? Buggered if they actually know.
      • The Prometheans are sort of soulless creations that might be able to become human if they follow the voices... in their heads, or like, completely ignore them maybe?
      • Mages are just -schizophrenic- very woke and hopped up on the good shit (hermetic's mummy powder is just as much a drug as the ecstatic's cocaine, and don't get me started on the 10 terabit/s satellite uplink that the adepts have plugged into their brains), only the delusions are real, sometimes, usually when that will result in reality police showing up in a police box and escorting you inside...
Oh, and also some nature deity decided that the best counter to a literal god of corruption was to host a global furry convention, but *one* specific group decided that they wanted to earn their hanken cruz badges...
That basically sums up the more or less """accurate""" lore origins for most of the splats. Are they mostly really off topic? Yes. Are they mostly a bit awkward? Yes. Did I mention ghosts being tortured for the benefit of a morally bankrupt hierarchical system that soul forges those who don't comply? No, and you sound ridiculous for having thought that.
(Also, it's like 2:20am, and I haven't read through the splats or watched Lazar or Stygia recently enough to give even half reasonable descriptions of them, but the basic gist should be fine I think)

And then the demons come along and tell an entirely different story. The thing about the World Of Darkness is that all of them are correct and all of them are wrong to varying degrees. Yes, the angels crafted the world at the dawn of times and simultaneously yes, the ancient dreams of primordial life shaped the very nature of reality. History is written by the devil and truth is what the majority believe... and also what is objectively real when the majority disagree. Reality is both subjective and fuzzy and stark and unyielding all at once.

Not a "faint possibly half-true recollections of.." thing, but flat out "your memories of the before-time are clear."
The closest WoD had come to that before was, I think, the Mokole (werecrocodiles) ability of Mnesis.

You mentioned how the Yawkyawk were similar to mermaids, yet you didn't touch on the merfolk and meerow and murduacha out of Blood-Dimmed Tides and the newer C20 books. All in all, this was a fun wealth of general information for folks getting into Changeling, though!
There was even mention of the Blood-Dimmed Tides at 2:34:41 :p

Changeling the Dreaming has been a huge part of my identity for over 25 years. And though i haven't played since high school, the philosophy of preserving our dreams and our magic, has given my life purpose. I read the source books for comfort, but now i want to PLAY again! If I am not mistaken, but to be clear I probably am mistaken, "cold iron" references the "death of innocence" or the transition from a child full of dreams to the hard and cold reality of adulthood. Imagine for example you are a young lad in the middle ages full of dreams and life just so war touches your life and you are awoken by the terrible atrocities of life by idk... shaving a knife into some enemy soldier guy and see him dying before your eyes. That knife is the cold iron, not due to some magical thing but due to what it represents.
Again, this is what I think it references ^^'
