The white marks on your rafters are from lath, so originally, there was likely a lath and plaster ceiling. Once that starts cracking, it takes expertise to save it, so folks used to just tear it down. You may get a bit of dirt sifting down from the ceiling; it looks like there is no subfloor upstairs, so the flex from walking on the floorboards may cause dirt/dust/dander to sift through. Just vacuum regularly. Beautiful and modern makeover that is totally suited to an old house. Congrats!!
Put that small rug you had originally over the new rug under the coffee table!!! I think that would be even cozier! Love this room!!!
Absolutely stunning. I like that you show us the "make it work" moments, where you have to rethink your decisions. I have more traditional decor, so I have started incorporating more natural materials (rattan, baskets) as well as creating a more minimal decor style. Thanks for the ideas!

Love everything about the room, except the ceiling. It just reminds me of an unfinished basement. But everyone has different tastes, so as long as the person who looks at it daily loves it, that's all that matters.
Maybe they need some TLC to be more polished and intentional to better suit farmhouse with industrial touches instead of being battered and rustic. I would love to see the white part more opaque instead of white wash.
@@mazjohansson9250 maybe. It's just to me those type of beams are always in unfinished basements, even painted nicely at times. Maybe if the beams were bulked up it would help the look, for me. But I'm glad she loves it since it's her home.
I was wondering about the exposed white electrical cords, if there is a way to hide them. But overall, the room is beautiful.

Great job on the living room! Favorite DIY is the shelves on either side of the tv and the shelf under the mirror. What a difference that shelf makes. Love beams showing on ceilings but not a fan of seeing the beams with bolts and nuts and long pieces of screw showing. Would probably drop a "ceiling" of plywood or sheetrock to cover them and just have a small portion of the beams showing. You furniture is beautiful and so comfortable looking. Glad you have a living room you love!

I love this space! That ceiling is awesome... I felt my arms being sore just watching lol. I like the idea of a story for each space. It’s helpful to think that way instead of just trying to match some style on Pinterest. I’ve had to realize that over the years... maybe just me getting older. It’s your home so don’t make it copy something online (unless you really really love it). You stare at your own space every single day so it should be what brings you joy not what is trendy.

So gorgeous! It looks like a super cozy place and would instantly lift any bad mood just by sitting on the couch soaking in that beautiful sunshine. I'd love to see what it looks like at night with the lamps and sconces on. Also have you considered covering the beams with wood pieces to make it more uniform and finished? Then you could stain them with your favorite wood stain. I think that would look amazing. Either way, it looks fantastic.
Ahhh Danie! I'd be screaming off of my rooftop "come check out my dope living room!" if I were you. Your makeovers are amazing (biased because we have the same style) but the fact that this is your house and it was all your work somehow makes this so much more special!

I love to watch Danie work - she’s so talented, a true craftswoman. I absolutely hate that ceiling, however.
I was feeling a bit low, started watching this, 2 seconds in, that beautiful smile and enthusiasm just made me feel so happy I already hit the Like button - 28 minutes later, wishing there were more Like buttons for the beautiful makeover. :) You're such an inspiration, I love the way you do things so properly - no bodging - and aren't afraid to take on challenges, and on top of that, you just light the place up. It's impossible not to feel happy and inspired watching your videos - thank you!
I'm happy for you, Danie. As you eloquently put it, "what a labor of love". I want to comment on three things: First, consider moving the side table near the window closer to the sofa, just as you have the other one. It'll look more aesthetically pleasing with both tables having the same distance to the sofa. Second, please be careful when handling Exacto knives near your dog. He got pretty close to it when you were opening the boxes. Dangerous! And last but not least, I understand some places claim their skins are "ethically" sourced, but there's still a LOT to that statement that hasn't been revealed, and the ways in which they get the down/feathers is still a grey area as collectors aren't legally bound to do it from dead animals (meat industry) so they can easily collect from live-plucking which is plain cruelty. This is not to rain in your parade but to raise awareness. I admire your work and creativity and I owed it to give you the feedback.

Beautiful compilation of texture, material, just cozy. I totally could see a set(2-3) of the Edison bulb string lights criss-crossing the center from the beams. Like a carnival canopy for a soft glow.

I love the bag on the wall with the flowers in it. I would love flowers in my home but my cat likes to eat them. This is a perfect way to have beautiful flowers displayed as wall art but also in a way that is away from cats. Beautiful job.

To say nothing of the noise since they took down the rock wool that was the sound barrier.
You can vacuum it, and then also go in a wipe everything off with cleaner and a rag
