Good listen - great interaction. Re: off-road driving - one of John’s pieces of advice I took onboard years ago was “if the obstacle looks overly nasty and you don’t have to go there, don’t do it”. I think it has saved me from disaster several times.
Hi Andrew and John, I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation for the exceptional knowledge sharing in 4x4 and motor vehicles that both of you consistently provide. Your posts have been invaluable, and the depth of wisdom you bring to the community is truly commendable. The dedication you show in sharing insights and expertise has made a significant impact on my understanding of various aspects related to 4x4 vehicles. The clarity and precision with which you present information make your contributions stand out. Thank you for being legends in knowledge sharing! Your efforts are genuinely appreciated, and I look forward to continuing to learn from your wisdom.
I don’t get paid to say this and just a lowly subscriber say this has been the best honest without bias discussion ASP has put out ! From a lifelong automotive manufacturing person from the shop floor trade to Senior Head of manufacturing facilities (International) Retired . Thank you gents !
It’s a privileged position to be an outside critic in the car market where you can shoot bullets at the car industry that affects the many people employed by the car companies. It’s not a perfect world and independent critics are absolutely important and I am sure any sensible company will be listening ! Not that changes can happen quickly and those at the public coal face have the most difficult part of the puzzle . Keep up the good work ! Cheers
Brilliant The best of the Off Road Industry and the Best of the Automotive Industry. WTG Andrew and John, I'd like to see you Guys do one of these once a month where you share stories and put the motoring world to rights, The Stories you guys would of amassed over the decades would make this the greatest show on earth, Thanks for your time and wisdom and please consider all of the above, WTG Guy's.
After a nice relaxing listen while driving, it was everything I would have hoped for; Cadogan is curmudgeonly as ever, balancing truth against bullshit and White is everyones old man wheeling buddy who has literally been there, done that, know why it won't work like you think and is kind enough to explain it. I would watch this long form series for sure.
@@SirBigzalot whos shilling what here? every creator on youtube is being forced, one way or the other, into "sponsorship" deals to underwrite their operations. If I happen to prefer JimminyWingWangs LED lamps and I mention it in my content, does that make me a shill? If JimminyWingWang ships me a box of lights and tells me to put them on my rig and spend at least 5 minutes of content talking about how great they are, is that shilling? What if I spend my ad revenue and patreon funds to buy JimminyWingWang lights from a common market supplier and then torture test them and show you how good I feel they are, is that also shilling?
Really enjoyed this, and although I'm not a fan of very long videos (I usually skip those🤭)due to time constraints, I just had to listen to two of my favourite UA-cam'ers having their first discussion on "air". Appreciate your mutual respect for each other, and your commitment to respectfully 'agree' on something, rather than disagree. That was awesome. After the two of you my third favourite channel is the car care nut. He gives very straightforward reviews on cars, not influenced by the manufacturers, as he's an ex Toyota master technician running his own shop. Says things exactly as they are, and I love that. It's the same with you guys. An honest, unbiased opinion. Thank you gentlemen🙏🏻😁🙋🏼♂️
As an afterthought, I think JC has some very valid points regarding which way the intercooler opening should face for the best efficiency. His point of oil mist and rain is also very valid. I wonder if manufacturers can't design one that's got an opening in the front, and the back, so that air goes straight through the intercooler only? Unless, it's already been done? 😁🙋🏼♂️
100% agree regarding Starlink and remote travel. Remote travel is about getting away from everything. Bringing the instant gratification of the internet along with you for the ride defeats the whole purpose, point and struggle of isolation.
Best Podcast Ever. I'm a long-time subscriber of both channels and as a guy with engineering background and automotive interests, I thoroughly enjoyed this.
I have always thought that of Andrew. He loves the build. Like a guy with a model train set. Years building it. When finished changes it to build it again.
For me it is a love / hate relationship watching you two For you John I love your sarcasm and intelligence. For you Andrew I have learned to change my mind and put up with your hand waving as you talk. With this video i have come to realise you are a vehicle builder first and a overlander second. I must now like you because I have purchased an Ergon hub for my build. Cheers.
Watching you two talking (who have great depth of knowledge around the motoring industry) about the BS within the motoring/media industry was well worth the time, well done guys.
thank you both for a great experience with your life events and understanding on how things work, especially the moon rover event. I have no overlanding experience, hence why I have been watching and getting the best info on overlanding and vehicle's designs and purposes. I appreciate your respect for challenging each others views, so refreshing! When I finally get the opportunity to become an overlander, I can reflect on the knowledge you both have provided.
I enjoyed this alot. It reminded me of my most favorite technical solution to getting high centered and having all for wheels slip. Me and my wife were out at some local dunes in the area and come to the top of a ridge and stopped just as we bottomed out in a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. As stated all four wheels started to slip. Knowing that the Cherokee had a nesr 50/50 weight distrabution with the equipment I had on it I had an instant Idea. Looking over to my wife and told her to lean forward with me, we shift the center far enough forward to git some grip on the front wheels that we started moving again. It had all the tech and still got stuck and something as simple as having the passenger anddrive lean forward got us going again.
Thank you. I just started watching this video with an expectation that I would not follow it to the end. Much to my surprise, I watched for the full video and immediately subscribed to the 2xoverland channel.
That was brilliant! I did a fair bit of solo tramping in New Zealand, the longest being 15 days, and had much the same experiences. That sense of self-accountability can be quite intense - almost meditative at times.
This is soooo refreshing listening to John and ASPW (sorry I do know him I just can't remember his Christian name) discuss the world of information distribution re motor cars and motor car journalism. The integrity and honesty in what is said verses the crap we get fed by those journos who have some skin in the game and as JC says want to keep their jobs. This quite long but well worth watching perhaps over time not all at once. Both of them are people of integrity and speak without "forked" tongue.
I loved this.. so much so, I immediately watched it again. I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss a millisecond of it. This is the podcast the world needs right now. Andrew should do one with Scotty Kilmer next or even have both John and Scotty on at the same time. That should be sheer entertainment.
Thanks Andrew, you two made my Monday morning a lot more bearable. Just like two blokes having a yarn, bet if you two get together in a pub, it would be hilarious.
I have never been a car guy. It's just a tool. Until now. I have had a 2 door JL Wrangler for 4 years now and I love it. It has become an extension of my personality.😇
love the chat it is the kind of discussion more people need to have. It is the honesty that makes the difference, no vehicle is perfect, so I listen but do not always trust THE SALESMEN. the other point is RESPONSIBILITY, we should take responsibility for ourselves. Thank you both, I have been following your channel and John for some time.
Super listenable. Enjoy both of these guys individually but even more in this format. It seems closer to the essence of these gentlemen, no 20 foot high exclamation points or verbosity. Hope you do another one soon.
Great conversation about reverse scoops. You mentioned rally applications, certain classes of drag racing have been using reverse scoops for decades. In line with John's points, unlike road cars these sports cars do not have multitudes of crap (air con etc) in the way and are designed with air flow to suit reverse scoops. Thoroughly enjoyed the conversation fellas. Nice work. cheers Greg
I nearly choked when I saw ASW and JC on the same split screen!! Mr 4x4 talking to the nemesis of all dingo piss creek seekers. Great conversation and topics.
Great show with many laugh out loud moments. I'm an Aussie chopper pilot living in Florida and have been gone from Aussie for 20 years. It is hard to find Aussie beer anywhere, other than Fosters dingo piss which I refuse to even clean my septic tank with. But you mentioned VB. I was working on an Italian cruise ship years ago and found they had an abundance of it. I had quite the bender as I'd been listing for some good Aussie beer. While it's not my favorite Tooheys, it sure as shit ain't Fosters. It's not too bad at all when you need an Aussie beer.
WOW... Bloody great podcast. Love it. 2 most down to earth people with the balls to say it as they see it. GOOD ONE. And thank you.
Good listen - great interaction.

Oh my god I've died and gone to heaven. John and Andrew together.
Totally agree - would love to hear more like this !
I know, right? Fantastic collaboration
Two legends in their respective fields brought such a nice conversation to the table. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thank you very much gents.

It’s what we need in a troubled world….Grumpy Old Men redux. 😂
I say what I like, and I like what I say
Absolute respect for you guys. No nonsense, not taking prisoners, “weet jou ma jys hier” content👌👌
