He's been shuffled around throughout his career and has accomplished great things at all of them. I hope he wins a Cup title but I'll always remember his Xfinity championship with Chase.
Had a similar experience but the results was a fail. Years ago when attending the Race in Sonoma when the SCCA had run the same weekend I met this fellow who was interested in hiring a mechanic (me) for their race team (in SCCA). Told me that they were gonna be in Laguna Seca the following month and if I really was interested that I should meet them there. So I packed for the weekend and made the journey to the coast. When I get there, make my way to the paddock only to find out they didn’t make it to the race for lack of funds. Dreams went up in smoke. Drive back home with lost hopes. Needless to say the best part of that was seeing some Indy car practice and checking out this legendary track.
Yes!! THis is awesome!!! Love Greg Ives!!! He is by far my favorite Crew Chief in the garage right now and I've been a fan ever since he was your crew chief, Jr.!!! Thank you!
Way to go Greg! Start at the bottom and work your way up. Volunteer to do things, earn your respect and go to the top. This is the way it’s supposed to work. Love this guy and this story
Dale thanks for show tonight as I been through many’s of things you have are going through over serious accident and head trauma it’s very cruel as it’s something that over the years The pain for my family and friends and now my job and by no means I’m a rocket scienceAgain thanks for the show tonight
I had the best job at Ford Motor Company. As a master mechanic with part of an associates degree. I was hired into Ford Racing, based on my experience, helping others race in Scca. And a very small amount of road course racing. Overnight I was a data collection guy, as well as a shock absorber tech with Ford nascar cup teams.

I was a graduate of one of the first classes from Nascar Technical Institute in 2004. I sat next to Chris Odell who was a tire changer for Kyle Busch then HMS. Great experience but it never materialized into a job in racing.

I went to nti. Was second in my class behind a midget racing 4 year mechanical engineer, last name pimm.. but even though I paid for the whole year at NTI, my dad ran out of money for rent and stuff half way through. I missed out. 🤦 Last I heard right before I left nc was pimm was cleaning the rubber out from under the 24 car... Lost opportunities. 😓
I hope that I could be like a Mark Martin-Matt Kenseth-Brad Keselowski-Alex Bowman/Greg Biffle(his early years) (You probably know where I’m going with this) a rags to riches type story about a slightly older driver, goes out there, pays his dues and hopefully makes it big time. But, If I don’t make it as a driver, I could be like Cole Whitt, Coleman Pressley and become a crew chief or spotter, or that Wally Dallenbach Jr. where he knew he wasn’t gonna make it as a driver, so he jumped in the booth and look at him now.... hopefully
🤬 Really aggravated that my DJD recording was stopped on this Greg Ives episode. I really wish NBC Sports would do re-air's at some point throughout the week. This is three different episode that something has went wrong on my end. 🤬
First step is Class A CDL ... Then pretty much gotta knw somebody of somebody... They don't make that much money . They do get a hotel rooms. No truck sleeping for the most part .. I drive a truck it would be sweet to haul the #4 car .

Mind blowing. His perseverance and dedication.
I wish we could see the whole interview. Listen to every download but would be awesome to see. Happy Birthday Intimidator!
This was one of my favorite interviews. Had to go listen to the full story. I really like the crew chief interviews.

Thank you, Jr. I now know what I’m doing to make it in NASCAR. I WILL be working for a team in NASCAR.

The 3 people that disliked this were the 3 that lost that job to Greg
Great Interview, didn't know anything about Gregg. What a leap of faith to get a job at Hendrick Motorsports.
