  • When Ryan Blaney showed an interest in racing, Dave was ready to teach his son the ropes. However, it wasn’t always a pleasant experience. Find out how hard Dave pushed Ryan and what Ryan thought of his dad’s approach.
Not every driver that races has the “it” factor. However, Ryan does and Dave noticed it early on. He tells the story of the night when he knew Ryan could make a career in racing.
During his 2012 Xfinity Series debut race at Richmond, Ryan’s strong run put him on the industry’s radar. Hear what Dale noticed about him in that race and how it ended up leading to conversations and opportunities with Team Penske and Brad Keselowski.

I'm not shocked to hear that Brad helped out Ryan at all. If there's one thing those guys all have in common, it's a long family legacy of Journeyman racers. Lou, Dave, Dale and Ryan, along with Bob, Brian and Brad all know the hard work and struggle of staying on top of the short track world and they all got their shots the old fashioned way. Undeniable, raw talent. Not even Ryan got his shot because he was a marketing goldmine, he is, but the main reason Ryan got his shot is the raw talent and that last name. And the Blaney name DOES carry some weight behind it.

Dave Blaney = Credibility. He carefully and methodically developed Ryan's racing, funded many things, talked to the right people along the way that helped him get opportunities and success. Dave was and is highly respected in the racing world. Wouldve won many races in his own nascar career in better rides. Even with poor cars he had near winning runs and respectable finishes.

i met Dale and Dave multiple times. His step daughter Ashley and i became friends going to our local dirt track all the time, Sharon Speedway. I actually met Ryan when he was like 4 or 5 years old. It's amazing to see how far he's come. Dale and Dave both are true racers, through and through and from what i saw both genuine, decent guys. Great episode.

Jenna J. says Little Papaw is actually younger then me. Dale, Papaw Jimmy is calling you ahead of time being protective of me, Jenna. He is telling me a story of the drawing he did of a older little blond girl and her little brother riding on a bed that came out of the walls, that opened up on the outside of the house. Who are the kids? I don't know. The names I wrote on the picture are, J.J. and little Tommie Lee.
