I just ordered this today after my old msr hubba hubba was eaten by a dog(I didn't know msr tents also were delicious for animals). setting just the crazy lower price aside. It looks like to me this is such a thought-out developed tent and I think ai will like it even better than the hubba hubba. the durability and comfort is worth the weight.
Hey Jake, You'll probably want a 4 season tent for true Himalayan travel, mainly so that you can seal off the mesh to keep the wind out. Also, keep in mind that the Annapurna Circuit is full of guest houses and many trekkers do it without a tent. That said, during the lower altitude portions of the trek, and elsewhere in Nepal, you'll appreciate the ventilation that a 3-season tent offers.
Hello, nice video, thanks for sharing! We have been looking into buying this tent for hiking and backpacking as it seems a really good quality but we are a bit concerned about weight. So we wandered what part of the weight we could leave at home and not carrying. We can´t find any information on the web about the weight of each separate part that goes in the kit with this tent. Would it be possible for you to say the weight of the footprint and pegs separately? And what would be the weight of only the rainfly, tent body and poles together? Thank you in advance.
The side zip vestibules really should have been designed as asymmetrical. That way you always have one vestibule protected from the wind. Now you're simply out of luck with both vestibules open in the same direction.
Yes!! I have additional questions: Why are there only basically two points of gyeline??! Is this tent at all stable and able to withstand really strong windy conditions and storms?? (With so little gyeline support?!?) And secondly, what is the condensation like in the tent? We need to know these things!
Hello, bluebell crushed velvet, thank you for the comment. There are two guy lines on the sides of the tent body besides the stake-out points. However, since it is meant to be used with the rainfly there are multiple guy lines located all over the fly for guying out. The tent when pitched correctly is very stable in severe weather. Regarding the condensation, as the Elixir is more at home in less than favorable conditions it will not breathe as well as an all-mesh tent in hot climates. That being said the Elixir 2 performs wonderfully well in cool and damp situations the mesh tent would not. Thanks again!
Good question! A 1500mm HH fly should keep you dry in most situations and I did find other tents on our site that have a similar HH value for their rainflys. Thanks for commenting!
Used it in the winter (-5/-9 C) , it’s waterproof. Ventilation was just right even in the cold. At those temps it was pretty cold - not a 4 season - but survivable. Mine came with the footprint, this adds extra protection to the base. Sliding an emergency foil thermal blanket helped a bit too. It’s a good buy
Do you think that this tent has enough air circulation? I see there isn't a lot of mesh comparing to other models and it might get super hot in there no? Thanks
Hi Zach, good question! There are some patches of mesh on the top and ends of the Elixir 2 that can be easy to miss. Without the rainfly, the tent should ventilate comfortably (site selection makes a big difference on how hot the tent will get). Also, if bugs aren't an issue you can always roll the doors back. Thanks for watching!
I have this tent, 6lbs?! damn, I don't remember that. Or maybe I just didn't consider it as heavy when I bought it, as I do now...Yea lol that's probably it.
Great review - even better commando roll @1:24

I'm buying one because someone stole my hubba hubba NX 2 tent 😭
Excellent review!
How does this tent go in sub-zero temps? I'm wondering if it will be warm enough to take on the Annapurna circuit in November-December

The minimum weight for the tent (body, fly, and poles only) is 5 lbs
The packed weight of mine with 6 stakes is 4lb 14oz.
Looks similar design to my oex rakoon 2.1 which one is better

And the 2018 model has that 🙂👍
Nice review, thanks

@@Enwild I had this tent out in a very hard rain, wind storm it stayed very dry
But the HH for the rain fly is only 1500 how can this be considered fully waterproof?

Dat roll @1:24 lmao!!
Hi.. when it will be back to stock?
Any chance for a bundle with the porch added?
Not sure about the bundle, but we hope to have more in stock soon. Thanks for watching and stay tuned!
What i dislike is that the footprint is not reach till in the vestibules

@@Enwild Thank you!! I just bought it today :)
Been looking at several tents and finally decided this is the one I'm going with. Now just to decide the one or two man version?🙄
It's a great choice, Peter! We'd recommend the 2P for space to sprawl if you can stand the little extra weight.
Backcountry Edge sorted. I think the extra pound or so is worth the extra space. Lovin ya work guys. 👍

It's about 2.4-2.5kg which is 5.3-5.5lbs
can you zip over the mesh triangles on the door or are they always exposed? if the latter is it much of a draft issue?
You can definitely close the rainfly to cover the mesh!
Nice roll at 1:24
😂Thanks!
Hi. What do you recomend most: MSR elixir 2p or Marmot vapor 2P?
It looks like the Marmot Vapor has been discontinued by Marmot. The Elixir is a solid, sturdy tent that can stand up to the elements.
Literally didn’t even touch the tent on the desk. Would have been nice to see how long it is.
Any tent you have to put the inner up alone first is a no for me. Whilst your setting it up in the rain your inners just getting soaked.
well done without the usual yt bs
first to comment!!!!! yeay
