Did you have any performance issues? I have a late '06 320 CDI that I've been chasing intermittent power down the proverbial rabbit hole for the last 8 months without DTC. It runs excellent on safe map, but I only realised yesterday that unplugging the post-cat EGT probe reports no DTC and drives just as bad as having it plugged in (only one egt sensor on pre-dpf CDI). My autel scanner won't monitor live EGT for some reason 😠, and i forgot to probe it while I was under the car 😅

I have two scanners, and my better scanner will show gas temperatures. If as you say the performance is bad with the sensor plugged in or left off, then that would look like a bad sensor? You may be able to take it our and test it when hot (a torch) and cold (ice) to see if you can get some readings. I would suggest just changing it first, or comparing it to a new one.

Hi, I had a similar issue with a cdi B-class. I also bought a new Schrader egt sensor. But the white wax covering it do you know what is for? Is it only a "seal" to tell the sensor is new? Thank you :)

Hi - yes it is a paraffin wax that melts after installation. I think it may be a part of the production process, or just to tell is the sensor has been used.

any help to replace external air temperature sensor? the car detects a temperature of 17 degrres , in any condition, and therefor the air conditioning is not working properly,,, can't find where is located, thank you

If it is a faulty sensor there is an external sensor on the front grill on the right hand side just below and near the numberplate.
However the system probably takes readings from several sensors and may calculate an average.
In that case it could be one of the internal engine sensors or in the inlet duct.

Intake air temperature is taken off both MAF sensors in the Y pipe. Outside temp sensor is a little nub somewhere in the front bumper, but shouldn't affect engine and is not connected to the ECU as far as I can tell.

Hi. 2016 mb ml350 has a P245B code (check engine light ). Is this the EGR valve being gummed up or something we should bring in? Thank you.

Thanks. Had the parts replaced and will be looking to “modify” the egr, dpf, def system, exhaust, etc.

Where’s the coolant temperature sensor on this car please 🙏

Hi, sorry, I don't have the answer to that. It is likely near the thermostat.

On the top of the left intake manifold, next to cylinder 5 glow plug.

What temperature should this sensor roughly read at working temperature ?

Hello! I'm running the diagnosis on my 350 bluetec, according to diagnosis it's the same sensor on mine that was bad. changed the sensor, the car worked fine for a day and then the same error code came back, also goes into limp mode... do you have any tips on further troubleshooting?

    • @jackpwc01
      @jackpwc01  3 місяці тому +1

You can test a loose the sensor in free air, using a heat gun. Just connect it to the vehicle connector and read out the diagnostics. Maybe try that with your old sensor and see what you get. It doesn't really make sense that it is killing the new sensor. How about faulty wiring?

@@jackpwc01 Thanks for your tips! I have had a friend with me who monitored the temperature while we were driving. The temperatures there looked normal. It seems that the car only goes into limp mode when I give full throttle.... during normal driving I don't notice anything... I have also ordered an original temp sensor now. So I get to try that too. If the car still gives error codes, it could be a wiring fault as you say.

Hi, What was the diagnosis code?
      Just a few thoughts -
The ECU puts a fake signal on the canbus if the sensor is faulty or not connected. Try with the sensor disconnected and see what values you get. they try again with a loose sensor out of the car, but connected. From memory the behavior was quite different and could be tested with a heat gun or even your hand temperature.
Also when you go full throttle does the temperature change instantly? It would if you had a faulty wire or connector. Try moving the harness while watching the temperature.
Finally it could be something else causing it to go into limp mode, such as the airflow sensors, or the DPF. I would be checking everything and looking for other issues that may not be related.

@@jackpwc01 Thank you very much for taking the time to answer, and for giving me many good tips! I want to test this. I have visited a Mercedes brand workshop, here they only find faults with the sensor itself. The error code is 14AC00 - There is an internal fault in component B19/11. I get the same error code plus this one: 159A00 - Component B19/11, it's a short to positive. There are also two other codes regarding the same component: P0546 Exhaust gas temperature sensor circuit high bank 1 sensor 1. And P2080 Exhaust gas temperature sensor circuit range/performance bank 1 sensor 1. Mercedes of course recommends testing an original sensor before I troubleshoot further. They can't find anything wrong with the dpf or anything else.... Yes, at full throttle the temperature went quite high very quickly.
