Great video, short and to the point. Nothing worse than needing to sit thru a 15 minute prelude of the person talking about this and that. Thank u!!!
Thank you Mich! This is one of my favs! Love our beets
Straight to the point, thank you for not wasting time. I have a whole bunch of beets in my garden that need to be harvested and I'll be using your recipe.
YAY MS....so glad you enjoyed. I just made another batch not too long ago! Super yummy. Thank you for watching! Jill
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR ~ NO ADDING A BUNCH OF STUFF YOU DON'T NEED THAT TAKES AWAY THE TRUE FLAVOR OF THE BEET ~ JUST USING THE ONIONS! ~ THIS IS TRULY THE OLD FASHION BEET BRINE I WAS LOOKING FOR! ~ THANK-YOU SO MUCH and GOD! BLESS YOU ♥
Yay! They are delish!!!
Simple, straight forward, and very well edited. As a beginner, your channel inspires me to can beets.

Excellent video thank you!!!!
O you do not know what you have just done for me!! I have looked an looked for the way grandmother pickled her beets!! We lost her 14 years ago and this is something she canned every year she was able for just me an her. We were the only ones who love them. I can't grow anything at all.😁😁 I can buy them thought. Great to the point video. You're so good at this. Thank you for sharing with us. God bless!! My dad loved Harvard beets!!
❤️❤️❤️
Straight to the point THANK YOU and subbed! Just a question. I've got 20lbs of beets to process & some recipes call for 30 min boiling. WHY? I'm getting confused LOL. All those recipes even have more vinegar. Yours is the kind of recipe I was looking for. Not too vinegary and no extra spices.
Thanks. Marianne.
Ohhh that’s a long time! You’ll love this recipe! Thank you for supporting us
Made these on Friday and tried the bottle that didn’t seal today, very good but very sweet, I think I’ll tone down the sugar next time! Thanks for the recipe

Thanks for sharing your recipe. Cold is moving in tomorrow and I have to pull my beets and needed some way to preserve them. I'm dicing & freezing some for future veggie soup. 🥘
YAY ABA! Yes, you will love these...I just planted more to harvest before spring planting lady. Stay tuned and best of luck to you. Be blessed, JIll
I always strain my beet juice and make my brine with it with vinegar sugar to taste and picking spice in a tea ball good video
Hi Cynthia yes we’ve seen others do that as well. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch us and stopping by. Be safe lady hope to hear more from you Jill
Thanks for the video! I rememeber my mom canning beets but needed a refresher before I start in the morning.
Yay Julie! How'd they turn out? I just made another batch not too long ago and will be growing more in my fall garden! Thank you for watching! Blessings, Jill
@@ntxg I think they turned out well! I got 21 quarts and 7 pints. It took all day but the kids did great while i was working on them :)
YAY...you will sure enjoy those all season lady.
Thank you!!!
Just ran across your channel. Reminded me of canning with my g- parents. JKL LV
Awe precious! Thank you for sharing with us.
.....That looked easy to do its fun to learn new stuff when your a old dog......lol....Thanks for sharing. ...
Hi Thomas, it was very easy! You have to make these...delish!
Your garden is looking Great Thomas, Piggy's are getting so big!
Great video. That was a lot of work and boy those beets were steaming when they came out! Great idea on using the gloves to keep from dying your hands. Best wishes.
Hi MH! How are you! Yes they turned out really good. How bout you guys?
Thank you! New subscriber. Do you ever get concerned the glass is going to break in boiling water? Has that ever happened to you? Getting my garden beets ready for canning this week. Love how short and sweet and to the point this is!
I did at first but not anymore. Only breakages I’ve had have been in pressure canner not leaving enough headspace and tightening of lids too much! Thank you for subbing❤️
I love pickled beets & I also put onions in them 😊
I did too!
And are those onions uncooked please ??
@@grumpy380 yes they are.
@@charmainemontgomery582 Thank you
Awesome video thank you! About how long would you say they will last on the shelf?
Years!
You got me motivated to make my own. Thank you for sharing. They look very delicious and pretty, too😊
Hidy Honey Badger! Yay!!!!! they are delish. Let me know how they taste to you. Blessings, Jill
I noticed that you added some onion "for some heat". I also add a couple of whole cloves per jar. Just watched all your canning videos - quarantined ;)
You rock Mike! I have beets coming this year, I will try the clove...sounds really good. Are you quarantined or shelter in place? I hope you are okay!
Drooling!!! 🤤
Couple questions: Have you ever used cider vinegar instead? Google says it’s ok to substitute but I was wonder if I should increase/decrease sugar or salt since it does taste different than plain white vinegar. Do you have to use canning salt or is coarse or table salt ok? Also, after the jars have sealed, do you remove the rings before storing? I’ve seen others do that and not sure why they do it…maybe just to reuse the rings? Thanks for showing the steps plain and easy, it’s my 1st time canning by myself 😳
You can, as long as it’s 5% acidity. No change in measurement. I remove rings. The whole purpose of removing the rings is to make sure that your jars have sealed if you leave the rings on you may never know whether it’s sealed or not. Thank you so much for watching.
this is the real beet-making tutorial here.
Looks great. This is my first full year gardening. Didn't get everything in that I would of liked. So when did ya plant y'are beets? Keep up the good work. I'll keep watching and learnin.
Hi Scout...planted beets in Feb I believe, they turned out good. Depending on where you are, try planting in the fall too...
Just found your channel looking for canning beets. It's a great video, I had to subscribe. One question, after you boil the beets do you cut the skins off or do they peel off like tomato skins?
Hi Destiny! Thank you! You will need to peel, they are thick skinned and will not peel but boiling makes it easier!😊
I just watched your beet canning video. Do have a Question , Have you ever eaten your beet tops. Great sauteed in butter with garlic or onions, which is the way I love them ... As much as i do the Beets... Ninette Bird- The Caribbean Wife
Hi Ninette...NO I havent but they sound delicious!!! Have some in the ground now and if they produce, I will surely try. Keep those handy hints coming, I love them!
Yes, the beet tops are great tasting and have more nitric oxide than the roots. This is what gives you energy. I snip them throughout the growing season and use them in soups and salads. I grow Lutz's Salad beets and they have big tender leaves.
@@artbyadrienne6812 Great idea, we have about 60 beet plants with huge beautiful green leaves and red stems at the moment. Could you tell me where to cut them off from or do you snap or pull them off and what preparation do they need thanks. Cheers
@@richardshort4587 I just clean and cube them like I was making soup and freeze. Have a great week.
I live in North West Texas for 35 years but move back home to Tennessee
TY. AND AMEN.
Amen Beautiful Yolanda!
Nice video, did you slice or quarter them
Hidy Troy...I chunked them...no specific size at all. Good luck and thank you so much for watching! Blessings, Jill
I really want to pare down the sugar. What do you think is the least amount to get away with?
Hidy, I’m not sure you can gal, sugar also acts as a preservative in this❤️✝️
I only use a tablespoon of sugar. And a pinch of salt. Nothing is going to spoil in that vinegar.
Did you use a water bath to can them or a pressure cooker? Thanks
Water bath ❤️
Thx for sharing your knowledge! I have a question, after the pickling process do they need to be refrigerated or can they be put in the cupboard?
Cupboard is fine!
Can you use this same brine for the onions and cucumber salad?
I have a video out in onions.
Do you store these in the fridge? And what is the shelf life?
Hi Christine...no gal in the pantry...Ball and Kerr state 18 months for their seals. I keep mine 5 years. Do what you are comfortable with gal. Thanks for watching, Jill
Thanks hun. I’m from the old hot WestTexas area and glad to hear your from my home state too 🙌
Hi can I use balsamic instead of white vinegar?
I’ve never done that. But I’m not sure it would be properly preserved if you did. You would probably need to keep refrigerated.
Beets will come off your hands unlike turmeric
How long after canned can you eat them?
Hi Linda...we ate them the next couple of days....very good right away. Thank you for watching!
how long are these shelf stable
Many years ago
Do you put the brine in hot or do you let it cool first?
Hidy Tory. Brine is hot gal. Let me know if you made them and how they turned out. Blessings, Jill
👍👍👍
How long will I opens jars last in storage?
Hidy Jeanette. The Jars are now stating 18 months, however we keep ours 3-5 years.
Do you have to put the salt? I am trying to stay away from salt.
Hi Christopher. I think so as it acts as the preservative.
What’s the longest shelf life on these?
Hi Militia! Forever as far as I’m concerned. Please note the recommendation for Ball and Kerr is 18 months. You need to do what your comfortable with
Can you put raw Garlic in the beats instead of onion
Sure!
Can you add hard boiled eggs ?
I’ve seen others do it!
I notice some videos recommend 30-35 minutes for water bath canning pickled beets......
Hi Lee. I won't hurt if you go that long. Let me know how they turn out.
Depends on your elevation, check with the National Center for HomeFood Preservation, they have free recipes and the USDA recommendations.
Could you add hard boiled eggs to this recipe?
Hidy Courtney...Hmmmm I'm not sure...you could try one jar and see how they do...very interested to see!
To save some time, dump hot water off of beets, put thoses HOT beets into cold water! You are using gloves so just start rubbing those beets! The skins just "SLIP" right off! Put in a bowl or pot. Then quarter or cube! Proceed with your recipe.
Try a brine with about 10 whole cloves and a small Cinnamon stick in it. You can wrap the spices or strain the brine! It sells like Hotcakes at the Farmers Market! GOD bless
Hi Rita!!! Thank you lady for the tips! I will try that in my next batch! Appreciate you watching us😀
@@ntxg Just make sure that you cook them long enough to make the skins slip. Leave about 1 inch of stem end and the tape root. That way, while they cook, they won't "bleed" out their nutrients into the water! You will love the speed of this! GOD bless
God bless you too lady❤️
Why do you put the filled jar back in the boiling water for 15 min at end. I didn't get that bit sorry.
Hi Craig, its the processing time that is needed for Hot water preservation. Thank you for watching and welcome!
Why do the jars go into boiling water with beets in them?
To make them shelf stable
Two cups of white vinegar, sugar, water, 1 tablespoon of salt. Thank you.
Super yummy
@@ntxgI did today. How many days should I wait?
I can’t find a recipe with no sugar ;-;
Oh no!
Tablespoon of cinnamon teaspoon each allspice and cloves 6 cups apple cider 5 cups sugar way better syrup......trust me.
The whole super food nonsense has to stop - beets are just a good food. Love this simple recipe to keep beets going through the year
Awe Dave we think they are SF because of their health benefits! Glad you like the recipe, it’s one of my favs!
