Thanks for posting this tutorial. It helped to make changing out my keyboard a breeze. No broken sockets, cracks, or stripped screws. Glad to have my computer back for the cost of the part.
Took me 10 hours to get it done, but everything works perfectly. Couldn't have done it without your video. Please let us know if we can donate directly to you for this helpful video. Thanks.
Amazing stuff, thanks for sharing. And thanks for showing the full re-installing of everything after removal, and not just saying "reverse the process", as this is a complicated install and I imagine that most of us will be following along step by step. I'm thinking of tackling this but it looks daunting with all those small connectors. Using an external keyboard for now.
This is one of the best step by step videos for this I have come across. It was the perfect guide for helping me replace my Macbook Pro keyboard. Thank you so much for making this video, I really appreciate it.
Thanks for the video. I inherited this m'book from my daughter with a missing key and several keys that didn't work. Followed your instructions, including an ssd drive and more memory, and now everything is working as it should (otherwise I wouldn't be typing this now). Had to get a bit creative with the antenna wire to allow the power button to come out because of a dodgy bracket screw that wouldn't securely grip anything I poked at it, and the 51 tiny screws for the keyboard just about did my head in. Audio was a bit on the soft side during the video, even at full volume, but overall, after watching the video several times your instructions led to a successful outcome. Thanks again!
Very good video - I installed a new keyboard successfully. The only feedback I'd give for future videos is to have a high-res closeup when showing how some of the connectors go in. Inserting the keyboard ribbon is quite difficult, and I couldn't see how much it should go in. Thanks again - $50 for a new keyboard and this video meant a cheap repair.
Totally accurate. Nice job. One note: Do not turn the computer over after you unscrew the power-switch connector. The power button and little spring ring will fall out. If this happens, put the button back in and then the ring.
Thank you so much felt really confident with your step by step guide! Saved my computer and my pocketbook. May I add that when reassembling....the keyboard ribbon has an extra lever that must be lifted in order to properly install the ribbon and lock it in place. The lever is so slim you almost miss it - but it is there if you have small tools and are gentle you will lift it. Then slowly move keyboard ribbon all the way in and then press lever down. -
Any links to good quality keyboard with backlight?, I changed the original one because it was not working anymore and while the new one works, it just feels super weird (cheap) and does not have backlight
well done!.. liked the detail and most of the shot listed items. Wish there had been some macro-shots of some of the tiny areas .. but all in all great work!
Great video! However, could you specify the kind of screwdriver you used to remove the 51 screws? I have phillips 0000, 000 and 00 but those screws on the keyboard don't seem to take any of the three screwdrivers. They spin loose inside of the cross. I don't want to risk stipping them. They're made of butter and I had a bad experience working on another computer. Thanks!
This video is awesome! This is the 3rd keyboard I've changed, but this time the keys don't work properly. You have to press them really hard and not responsive. Any suggestions?
Just finished all the steps and absolutely have to say, thank you!. This easily saved me $300. Love to say the check's in the mail, but I'm working on honesty. This well-illustrated, totally accurate, walk-through could only be better with audible audio, but the titles got me through whispered instructions AND my MacBook Pro is back in service. (...water spill, don't ya know.) Many thanks!
Nice tutorial, thanks. I'm thinking about replacing my Macbook Pro keyboard because there is one or two letters failing sometimes. My question is... did you replace the backlight layer with a new one or used the original? I found the keyboard without backlight (assuming you won't damage your backlight layer) for sale for $12, thinking about buying it...
Buy a keyboard with a layer because most of the time there is a spill that is blocking half the layer and it's just dirty. Maybe $10 more bucks but will save you a giant headache.
Hi! i couldn’t thank you enough for the video, but i didn’t know why my screen suddenly turns white after i turned it on? I think there must be something i did wrong but i couldn’t figure what, i would appreciate any help! :)
Thank you so much for this great video. My keyboard finally works properly again. The only thing that doesn't work is the keyboard backlight! I followed all your instructions perfectly so I assume the replacement keyboard i ordered just doesn't have backlight :/
Computer won’t turn on now. The battery is connected and I can touch the battery button on the side and get a read. However the computer doesn’t turn on. Did I not reassemble the power button properly? Or would any damaged connectors not allow the computer to turn on? Would really appreciate your help!
Thank God I have a 2012 MacBook pro in 2022 Going to do this this week After I change the battery my D,F,G,H,K,L keys stop working. If anyone has a solution to fixing besides replacing please let me know
Wonder if you found a solution? I have had some keys (in the original keyboard) stop working, and am not sure if it's a software issue or the keyboard needs to be replaced. Sometimes they work and sometimes not. I've done all the normal things to clean, repair and replace the keys, and have replaced about 6 of them with new keys and cones. Still have the same issue, have been using an external keyboard now for the past year. Any suggestions appreciated 🙏
@@AfricanFlightStar yes I have Replaced it I did it myself and it works.... 54 screws to take out and average an hour of work. And you will be good to go
for the little bracket in between the keyboard connector and the trackpad connector, is the trackpad wire supposed to go under it or over it? what is that little bracket for?
Yes amazing video! I nailed it to the T. One issue after turning on though - now the screen looks weird with colorful ants walking. I can see my desktop. What did or didn't I do? Even installed a new battery. No parts left behind, nothing nicked, no screws left behind and no damage to the logic board? The cable for the screen is plugged in correctly. Please help. It took me 3hrs as I was super careful.
I did the same like you did and changed to a new keyboard but still have the same problem keyboard not working not all the keys work and when i press capslock the light blink and then turn off what i must do and thank you
It's a skill and a lot of prying with tweezers. Just keep trying, if unit doesn't power on then reseat the keyboard cable. Sometimes takes 3 tries or more.
Look at the teeth make sure they are not bent. Just un plug, reinstall and test it again. Boot it while it's hanging to see if it's siting incorrectly in the slot. Here is a track pad repair video www.appledollars.com/trackpad-replacement
Save Apple Dollars what do you mean by „reinstall“? Is there a way to reinstall the trackpad without using it ? And what do you mean by „boot it while it’s hanging“? Thanks a lot for your answers
Remove the track pad completely, then reinstall it as if replacing it. See if that helps. You can have the trackpad hanging and out if it's socket and boot up the macbook while it's open and test it. That is a more advanced troubleshooting technique that saves time.
Now my speakers are sounding tingy, like with no base.I tried setting the audio channels, but nothing works.Did I damage anything I wonder? I was so focused on not damaging the logic board. Any help?
It could be that the speakers are loose or not connected all the way. I would take them out and observe the actual surface of the membrane and make sure nothing is blocking it's motion. Many time just taking it apart and reassembling it will fix the issue.
Thanks for posting this tutorial. It helped to make changing out my keyboard a breeze. No broken sockets, cracks, or stripped screws. Glad to have my computer back for the cost of the part.

It goes over and is meant as a protection shield that keeps the connections from coming apart.
